New poll! "Rapture" vs. "Genius of Love"

An episode about classic hip-hop! And as we all know, hip-hop is best when performed by white people. So vote now for the best new-wave act getting into this thing called "rap" "music". Is it "Rapture" by Blondie or the ever-sampled "Genius of Love" by Tom Tom Club?

Comments

I hope one of these days Todd does an episode of the whitest rap songs of all time. I would also like to put Randy Newman's Masterman and Baby J in the running for that list.

As a Chris&Tina fan, I have to go for Genius of Love.

The only difference between these songs is one is a desperate escape from an authoritarian lead singer and the other was the authoritarian lead singer’s idea. I’m a huge Talking Heads fan but I need to go with Rapture on this one.

Third party vote to Rappin' Rodney by Rodney Dangerfield. It was co-written by the first person who covered hiphop for a mainstream magazine!

"Genius of Love" is just so meh. It's got to be Blondie's "Rapture" which is interesting and funky and trying something. It may seem cringe looking back from 2023, but it was pretty groundbreaking. Also fun. (Source--I turned 12 in 1980. Stop saying you're old, Lina!)
