BONUS EPISODE: "Across the Universe"
Added 2022-03-01 03:02:05 +0000 UTCWe saw a film today, oh boy. Todd and Lina wrestle with the uneven but memorable Beatles jukebox musical, Julie Taymor's 2007 cult film "Across the Universe."

its bullshit that ringo didn't get credited at the end cause he has a writing credit on Flying which was in the soundtrack!

2022-09-25 20:55:57 +0000 UTCThe thing that annoys me about the shallowness of it is having the Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix clones, but leaving out what happened to them. It treats them like they went through their arc and everything is fine now............ UNTIL 1970 HAPPENED. This movie is weirdly devoid of consequences, and it takes away the impact of anything that happens.

2022-03-14 06:27:15 +0000 UTCIt's not a movie but a truly great Beatles jukebox musical is Cirque du Soleil's "Love." And I say this as someone jaded about Cirque. The biggest part, which anyone can experience, is George Martin's soundtrack, a masterful and intimate revisit of their music that makes everything bright and new. But Cirque also went outside their usual toolkit and put together a show that's faithful to the band's real world history and does justice to the songs. Hopefully someday a VR version will be available. I'd never go to Vegas but was grateful a friend persuaded me just to see that show.

2022-03-11 18:16:22 +0000 UTCI remember enjoying this at the time, but haven't gone back to it in over a decade. I know a bunch of people who love it. As for a good Beatles related flick, you didn't mention it, but I find I Wanna Hold Your Hand to be solid.

2022-03-03 22:35:15 +0000 UTCRe: worthwhile Beatles-based movies: I haven‘t watched it myself, but this fictionalized account of the evolving relationship between John Lennon and Brian Epstein was on The Guardian‘s 1000 movies list. It‘s called The Hours and Times, from 1991. https://youtu.be/5_dgKHVIHeo

2022-03-02 22:07:16 +0000 UTCI love this movie. That said, this is totally a movie I don’t need other people to love in order to enjoy it. I like Beatles music, I like the musical sequences, I have a good time with it. Do I think it’s good? Eh, I don’t really care about that. Lina’s take in this movie is valid, y’all’s take on this movie is valid, Todd’s take is valid. I still like watching it either way. Nothing’s gonna change my world.

2022-03-02 17:06:19 +0000 UTCNo, I also just watched the movie, and you're right. Though, to be fair, it is a very quick moment ( they almost cut away from her saying it) and it is the only time we see her with a girl in any sort of intimate relationship.

2022-03-01 23:33:08 +0000 UTCI saw Across the Universe once in theatre with two other friends. One loathed it, the other loved it, and I was pretty lukewarm about it. I likely won't watch again, although getting high and watching the She's So Heavy scene kind of sounds fun.
2022-03-01 20:42:05 +0000 UTCI say this as someone who hasn’t seen it since theaters, so you two who just watched it must be right

2022-03-01 20:41:11 +0000 UTCI feel like there’s a line after Mr Kite where Prudence introduced the cast to her girlfriend. “This is _____, she’s a contortionist “
