NEW POLL! "Get Lucky" vs. "Uptown Funk"

I think this one needs no intro. Vote now

Voted a long time ago, but forgot to post a snarky comment. Get Lucky is a good track, but it is by orders of magnitude not my favorite Daft Punk track. Also still salty that Daft Punk did the Tron 2 soundtrack instead of Com Truise (at the very least is should’ve just been Kavinski, JFC). So Uptown Funk it is. I like dancing and pretending I’m in The Time.

Uptown funk is a great song but Get Luck is just an amazing song.

I thought it was unfair when you made me choose between Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush. I had no idea what the future would hold.

omg checking back in and it’s really close now!

i voted get lucky. uptown funk has more as a culture phenomenon, but get lucky is the song i would actually want to listen to, and doesn’t annoy me immediately when i hear it now

get lucky comes up in my head more as a song than uptown funk, which i think about not-infrequently but rarely as a song. it’s just associated with memories that come up, if that makes any sense

When I was an annoying college student trying to win clout for being more “authentic” or whatever I would’ve voted Get Lucky, but I’m an adult now and honestly Uptown Funk is the song that I still listen to. Both are amazing songs and this is by no means a strike on Get Lucky, btw. Just that at the end of the day I usually like to have a fun time over a sexy time.

Once, my mother-in-law walked in on my nephews playing one of those video games like "Just Dance". They got to the end of Uptown Funk and my MIL turned to some of the adults and said, "they should do Uptown Funk. That'll get people dancing," completely oblivious to the fact that was what she had been hearing and witnessing. I understood then that Uptown Funk was so overplayed it had essentially become white noise in the late 2010s. I gotta vote for Get Lucky.

They're going to revoke my citizenship for this, but Uptown Funk is superior. There are other, better Daft Punk songs, several of them on RAM, plus the Weeknd has tried to get his own Get Lucky for a while. But Uptown Funk really was lightning in the bottle, there's still kind of nothing like it. I know Todd likes the concept of songs that absolutely own a musical idea ; well, Uptown Funk is THE uptown funk song. It's the culmination of a whole tradition of uptown funk songs and nobody has really tried to replicate it since.

I remember being like 11 years old when Uptown Funk came out, watching bruno mars in the music video, and wanting to be as cool as him. I'm now bi and transmasc. I've also seen videos of drag kings performing this song and doing a pretty great job. That being said, I have to vote for Get Lucky. I've had it on my playlist for a few years now after listening to one of Todd's old reviews. It sounds almost ethereal, the beat is so incredibly solid, and pharrell's singing is Great. TLDR; Uptown Funk sounds like you're the coolest dude in the universe walking down the street. Get Lucky sounds like you're dancing through the night sky. My choice is Get Lucky
