I just posted a video on YouTube showing a time-lapse with commentary of me animating a 2D explosion. I'm really quite satisfied about how that that turned out. So I wanted to elaborate a bit on the technique I use to create something like that.
I think sometimes it helps a lot to see someone work in real time to be able to fully follow along with what's going on. A time-lapse gets the general methods across, but seeing someone tackle things without much editing might be more informative.
As I mentioned in the video, I might try to create a quick scene (not another monster project) that uses a bunch of 2D FX. Currently you can access the final explosion and also the smoke puff I made in this video if you are subscribed to the Elder tier and up. If I create a scene including some other FX I will drop those there for you to grab too. Either or I will let you know if I do.
Hope you enjoy this episode. Maybe we can look at creating some lightning FX next. Its actually not very hard, so could be a fun one.
