Patreon Video - Ep 01- Camera Mapping

Hi my friends!

First episode is now out exclusively here on Patreon!
In this one we look at how I use the method of camera mapping to blend a 3D and 2D world into one.

I am always looking for new methods to develop my style and elevate the quality of my work. I think a big part of the fun, when creating an animated film, is to figure out the tricks and methods to use to solve certain problems that we face during the creation process.

This method has definitely brought me a lot of joy and figuring out how to set up my scene and technically break it down is a lot of fun.

I really hope you guys enjoy this first episode and please let me know what you think we should look into next!

Hey! Haha an Icon! That's cool :) I'm happy that I can help in some way :)

For a young animator like myself ,have to say you are an icon .. not to be dramatic haha:)

Hey! I think at some point a more standard 3d workflow will be the way to go if you want a lot of 3d camera moves, but snappy camera moves would work. Something I have explored too is to start by doing what I have done here and once the texture break due to the extreme angle I export that frame and paint up that angle again so it looks good. Then you can fade between these two textures as the camera moves from point a (first painted&projected texture) to point B (second texture). Does that make sense? :)

this is incredible stuff! how would you suggest working with more dynamic camera moves that cover a wider range of angles? perhaps snappy/heavily eased movements from one angle to another, switching the camera mapped textures in the middle key? may be restrictive, interested to hear your thoughts

Nice!! I'll try to build something!

Useful and amazing! Can't wait to have some spare time to try it out :)

Sweet! Would love to see what you make!

Thanks for this! I will try to use this technique in Maya this week, this has been very useful, seeing it broken down into simple steps!

Thanks! :)

Excellent stuff - thank you!

That's good to know! Yeah its not a very complicated process. :)

Very cool, doesn't seem like a particularly difficult thing to replicate in Blender either! ^-^
