Reaction to Mufasa movie

Well, yesterday I had a chance to watch a new movie about the Lion King universe. I had a lot of pleasant impressions after watching it, and I really liked the journey of the main characters. After watching, I decided to capture the highlights.

Who has already looked? What caused your vivid emotions?

Reaction to Mufasa movie

Comments

Eyup and to him appearing in the clouds to give Kion any wisdom he needs

RodaTex

Hmm...ok, that could work...I really wish Disney had included the deleted footage of TLK2. There really was no reason other than runtime to delete it.

Rhio2k

Also when Kiara is roaring at the end, the Mufasa cloud roars as well, which I took as a side reference to the roar of the elders.

One of the lionesses in Kiros pride has a marking similar to zira, it’s possible they’ll use that as a connection. Alternatively, she could be one of the other lionesses from a pride ravaged by Kiros. So there’s space for her, even though she’s not directly referenced.

(SPOILERS) I think this movie is really great! Solid 8/10! Was it perfect? Eh, not really, there was a lot of details sorta just skimmed over and never spoken of again, missing various key moments; "The great kings of the past" lesson, that Mufasa's father told him, before passing it on to Simba being an example, or more solo time with the villains. Basically, lots of areas, sorta left to be desired, and among other nit picking areas. But, all in all, it was a great movie, a very great step into the right direction! Yeah, Kiro's song.... was certainly the weakest song in the movie! LOL! I am curious, with how they use Kion now. Like, whether they use TLG canon, or actually put effort in putting Kion into the TLK canon? (Unless... he becomes the new Kopa for a certain.... scene with Zira, from the books.) I guess time will tell. Just hope, they don't bring that "magical roar" if they do. lol!

(SPOILERS) As a prequel it hit all the right notes, introducing the familiar characters and setting up the conflicts that establish their motivations, and reprising the familiar themes both musically and dramatically. NGL I got chills when Taka had Mufasa by the paws at the river's edge. But yes, the songs and the plot were good but not great. Overall though it was consistent with the source material and had a few in-jokes for the fans, so I enjoyed it. I think my favorite part was how Rafiki's origin story mirrored Mufasa's own adoption, giving sense that the characters could immediately have a shared understanding, and how it was arranged that all these characters of different bloodlines would end up in the same place and on essentially equal terms.

Somnius

True. It's not official. But I want to believe he's Kion.

lionkinguard

To be fair season 3 was rushed so they had to make due with ends meet. They rushed it because Disney cut them off so I hope now they give it a second chance

RodaMoon

Taka is basically angry Mufasa came and got everything he "had the birthright of". Mufasa became King, Mufasa got the Princess, got the love of his parents. Basically Taka didn't want to work for any of it and was spoiled to believing just because his dad was a King he had to be the King, had to be married to a princess, had to be venerated and loved by everyone. Even in the first song, Taka is already wanting birds to obey him, whereas Mufasa tells him he can't, birds are free

RodaMoon

I still need to watch the movie. I hope it’s good

Nameless

How do we know that’s Kion tho? I’m just hoping it’s a new cub that will be in the next movie

Overall, I liked the movie. Like most people, there were a few moments that I didn’t care for. I generally liked it. I completely agree that Timon and Pumba were obnoxious - but they’re fulfilling their role as comic relief, for the kids. The songs were pretty forgettable. I liked how they set up Taka’s backstory and the ire he has for Mufasa. At the end of this movie, I wasn’t entirely sure what to think of Taka or what his motivations truly were.

Ajabu

That would be so cool.

lionkinguard

They Kinda tackle the outlanders issue with Kiros and Kiara learning how to understand and care for them. I think that's a nod if anything

RodaMoon

I'd love to see them tackle Lion Guard in Live Action

RodaMoon

Lemme guess...they still made no effort to fix the "Zira" plot hole...you KNOW they're going to eventually do Simba's Pride, and that problem will rear it's head yet again.

Rhio2k

I had the exact same reaction to baby Kion! The songs weren't great I agree.

Spirit

I rlly do hope they make a new lion guard and focus on Rani and Kion more because towards the end of season three the poor writing does kind of make it seem like she only likes Kion for the roar like her saying “maybe (The Roar) will return someday” not maybe Kion will return someday just doesn’t settle right

perium

Same reactions as yours! Timon and Pumba had no place being there, but baby Kion was adooorable. I also liked Kiros but his song was...embarassing. Overall I enjoyed it.

Nummynumz

Basically the same as yours. Timon and Pumbaa seemed to be there to force a few jokes. The main story (Mufasa and Taka's) was very touching and surprisingly good. I enjoyed the songs, but Kiro's song isn't my favorite. The visuals are incredibly good, waaaaay better than the remake's. (SPOILER) I understood why Taka got that mad at Mufasa. He was very jealous, but it wasn't just about Sarabi. First his mother seemed to love Mufasa more, then his father ended up accepting him and in the end Sarabi chose him. Basically, Mufasa took everything from Taka (not intentionally). (END OF SPOILER) As for Kion... the best surprise for me. <3

lionkinguard

Definitely could see them return to the Lion Guard or make a new one in the Live Action Universe. Either way, remove Timon and Pumba

RodaMoon

Watched it twice, latam dub and english and it's top notch yep. Definitely would remove the dumb duo of Timon and Pumba

RodaMoon

I agreed with Kiara when he shut them up. I was like THANKS. But yeah they could've cut them out and just leave Kiara

RodaMoon

I loved it so much. I agree that Pumbaa and Timon were annoying lol. They reminded me of the movie Lion King 1/2. I really liked the songs and I keep listening to them at home. I want to watch it again, but the English version isn't available where I live, so I'm stuck with the French one. Anyway, I was so excited to see the movie and I am not disappointed!

NightFox934

The first half is way better than the second half. It's better as a Scar origin story than a Mufasa origin story, and it feels like Barry Jenkins was forced by Disney to include Timon and Pumbaa in the story. They're easily the worst part of the film. But it is a beautiful film to watch, the voice acting is great top to bottom, and I was shocked that they actually included Kion.

Jem

I really liked this movie but there were so many problems with it like the Timon and Pumba scenes they could’ve taken that out and added more things to show why Taka decided to betray Mufasa and more to show things that Taka did for Mufasa not to give him another chance at the end considering Taka did have a change of heart at the end and he has saved Mufasa many times in the past. I hope in the future they make another movie that’s better with more thought put into it or add another season to lion guard cause I would def like to see how Kion and Rani turn out. Considering they have made new seasons for Sofia the first and Mickey Mouse clubhouse it’s just a matter of time before they revisit TLG

perium

I think it should've been longer yeah and maybe some more action? The fighting is alright but we barely see anything other than some scratches and biting here and there unlike Lion King

RodaMoon

He says something amongst the lines of "No lion is as fast as a cheetah, Strong as an elephant, soars high as an egret or a hawk"

RodaMoon

Overall, I loved the movie, I feel like it should have been a little longer, and I actually wish the rating was higher so that we could avoid so many cut aways from the violence. As far as Kiro’s song, I didn’t care for it on first watch, but as I’ve listened to the soundtrack afterwards, it’s grown on me. I think part of the point of it is to show he has a “screw loose” so to speak. But I wish they had played off of it more.

Magicat

>"They kinda reference the lion guard when Mufasa united the animals" Wow! I didn't think of that.

LynxGirl

Spoilers xD but I bet at this point we've all watched it. I think Kiros singing is him just showing how much power he has that he lets the lionesses do everything. Kinda like Obasi lol. Definitely enjoyed it even if it could be better in some aspects. YES BABY KION WAS THE BEST ENDING They kinda reference the lion guard when Mufasa united the animals
