2023-09-23 23:18:35 +0000 UTCI also think that the reason why Casita/the miracle didn't give Mirabel a magic door at her ceremony is it knew it needed her to still have that inside her to re-activate the magic down the road. The magic seems only positive and helpful so on first watching it didn't make sense to me why she didn't get a gift as it seems spiteful and mean. But then on second watching I noticed that the way the magic swirls around the doors as they get their powers is the exact same way the magic swirls around the front door when Mirabel goes to open it

They don’t have powers but really hold everyone together as a family and community. So glad you finally circled back to watch this, I know the first time some of the songs didn’t land as hard without context. So glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate you as always ♥️

2023-09-23 20:18:58 +0000 UTCI can appreciate why people don't relate to Isabel's struggle as much as Mirabel or Luisa. I also think it's not 100% clear on first watch. To me her problem isn't that her life is perfect, but that there's so much pressure on her to maintain this image of "perfection" that she's afraid to really be herself because that may not fit with Abuella's vision for her. Just as Luisa always has to be "strong", Isabel always has to be "pretty". So in that way Luisa and Isabel have the same problem: they can't show their mental struggles because that doesnt fit with their "role" in the family.

The soundtrack is just amazing, and my favorite latin artist is in it! You shoud definetely check Sebastian Yatra, he's the one singing "Dos Oruguitas", and his discography is a perfection. I also super recommend you Brooklyn 99, is my second favorite comedy show, only behind Friends, I think you'd really like it.

2023-09-23 17:13:14 +0000 UTCthis movie is definitely one you need to rewatch! one of my favorite things is the butterfly imagery on abuela & mirabel’s clothing, all over the casita, on the candle, and on the painting of abuelo pedro. you don’t notice it on first watch, but it so clearly foreshadows the way they’re connected also love the way that the story abuela tells young mirabel of how they got their miracle at the beginning is the watered down version you would tell a young child. pedro just disappears. we don’t see the machete or abuela’s emotional reaction until she recounts the story in full detail to an older mirabel and let’s her in on the trauma she’s been harboring for 50 years also i will be an isabela defender until the day i die because i resonate so deeply with her. it’s such a freeing experience to finally break out of feeling like you’re obligated to be the perfect child all the time while watching your younger siblings not carry that burden and it took me until my 20’s to realize that. “what could i do if i just knew it didn’t need to be perfect? it just needed to be, and they’d let me be” hit me right in the gut the first time i heard it as someone who’s basically been a perfectionist since birth also it made me laugh that you completely missed their hug during isabela’s song and kept yelling at them to hug after it was over 😂
