A Fine Mess - 2025.04.29

"Life is not meant to be perfect; it's meant to be messy, beautiful, and unpredictable."

- Denise Grover Swank

Hello everyone. I just wanted to bring folks up to speed on the progress of the game.

I recently learned that Runaway Princess' Willowdale parts constituted about 750 renders in total, and about 3500-4000 renders for the entire game (the difference between the two is if you count animation sequences as a single render or not - I do count them). About two weeks ago, Princess on the Run blew well past 750 renders and is around 900+ render for Willowdale: Part 1 (of 2) alone - and that is not counting animation sequences. We are well over the number of music and sound effects utilized in the old game, and the current code is, in a word, massive. So much so that it practically dwarfs the previous game’s code. The writing is running between 2x-3x the previous number of words as the existing stories are expanded upon and new scenes are added.

And this will likely be the case with every update.

So, while I know everyone is waiting (with varying levels of patience) for the release of this first update, I wanted you to know how much work is going on behind the scenes to reImagine and remake this game for you.

As well, I had asked you folks to let us know what things you wanted to see more of in the game, what you didn’t want to see, and what you liked about the old game. I am happy to report that much of what you asked for or were concerned about are pretty much running parallel to what we, as developers, want and are also concerned about.  As we move forward past the release of the first update, we will start solidifying these ideas into polls and let you, the supporters, vote on what new ideas (or old ideas) get added to the game.

I’ll be posting more numbers and info in the next update. Until then here are a few renders from the game.

I very much appreciate your patience; through each fine-tuning and pre-testingout which features are more intuitive and visually appealing than others [as well the writing and art renders], we get closer to a product you will play often and find something new.

Well the good news is the game sounds like it will be fantastic when it is completed. Of course the bad news is that it is not completed... yet, but I am VERY patient.
