Well, the holidays are upon us, and work on Princess on the Run is ongoing. We get closer and closer to the date of release - a date which has been rescheduled at least twice. For that, I am sorry. I promise that, for future updates, I will manage expectations a lot better.
The reasons for the delays are things I’ve already discussed in previous updates: the volume of the previous material that needed to be redone, the recreation of the characters, creating brand new music to accompany the story, and the recoding of the entire game.
And we’ve made a lot of progress, and I wanted to let you know how we’re doing, and a bit about what we’re planning..
We’ve split up the village of Willowdale into two different updates. After Willowdale, we will have an entire update that encompasses the first leg of travel from Willowdale to the town of Dewberry. In the old game, the travel was meant to serve as filler for random encounters with the likes of beer bro’s, naughty priests and Fountains of Unusual Qualities [aka, Fuqs]. In the reImagined game, this travel update will treat these random encounters as part of the larger game world. You might meet a character here or there who will be important to know later on in the game. Some encounters will be with monsters or even worse - other people. How the different characters handle these encounters will be important throughout the game.
And that highlights one of the important differences between this game and the previous version. Instead of the player viewpoint of the Main Character only, the player will have the opportunity to play the other characters in the game. This was a conscious decision on my part; this is a big game world and it is going to require the views of several characters to give it both scope and dimension. How Kelly sees the world is going to be different from how Marika sees it. And Genni’s view of the world is…unique. All of these different characters have their own side adventures, so that when they come back to interact with the MC, the interaction takes on new depth and meaning.
Having said that, I want to make it clear that there is a lot of room for suggestions by the supporters on stories that they want to hear. Of course, these stories have to fit the medieval fantasy genre - no mecha or post-apocalyptic zombie gun-fu. We do want to hear your ideas, because you all are a part of this.
Which leads me to this - we are so very grateful for your continued support and patience while we sort all of this out and assemble this great big puzzle. You guys are beyond awesome, and all of us here at One Hand Clapping are deeply humbled by your faith in us to bring this vision to market.
So, this American holiday has at its core - ideally - the belief of taking a moment to give thanks for the good things in our lives. And for us, that is you guys. Thanks for your ongoing love, interest and support for our game. You are an extra large bucket of Awesome. We want you all to know that you are the driving force that makes us want to make the best game, period.
Be safe during the holiday season, and I’ll talk to you next week.
