That’s disgusting. I’m not perfect and I’ve definitely had my own problems with women in my relationships but I’m generally respectful to others, men or women.

Rod Hodges

Gotcha, I was unfamiliar with this event. I'll do some more digging. I will say it does seem like, from Bluetea's own words, he didn't post revenge porn. Does seem like he did share/discuss the photos with some friends. Still despicable and irresponsible to be sure. I would not call it revenge porn though.

Tristan Brooks

This was covered in the DtG episode. Yes she did post dic pics of him. But her reason was to get back at him for sharing her nudes with his friends along with nasty comments about her appearance. I don't think what she did was right but I can understand how upset she must have been. And she is not setting herself up as a role model to anyone. And his defence that sharing nudes of women you've had a relationship with, with your guy friends in order to degrade them by critiquing their appearance, is a totally normal and acceptable thing to do. Like the Australian PM said, a culture of disrespect for women is the necessity precondition for a culture of violence towards women (or something like that(.

Do you have any links to provide? This is the Destiny wiki on Bluetea. Seems like she revenge porn'd him https://wiki.destiny.gg/view/Bluetea Not denying you might be right, if you are I'll make a submission to the wiki.

Tristan Brooks

OK here is a quote from the much younger female fan "I'll come out and say this is Bluetea. I really have nothing to lose. Long story short, Steven leaked nude pictures of me to his Skype friends. He then joked about how "fucking hideous" my face is compared to my "beautiful body." They joked about how I look like Shrek. I do have a big nose, I guess."

Emma

Big agree here. However, even as a bonfide Hasan hater I'll say some of these juvenile interpersonal beefs have significant overlap with brand competition. Vaush fits in well here too. Not even saying he should stop or he's not right to beef.

Tristan Brooks

Totally fair to call out ethical issues of receiving deala from gambling adjacent sites. I will say his friendship with Trainwrecks (involved in some level of running Kick) and other streamers looking for alternatives to Twitch (especially given the nature of his ban) is a considerable factor. Also important to note is his deal was not exclusive (although I think a dedicated amount of hours had to be). The light moderation of Kick is also convenient for the type of discourse and types discourse-ing thag Destiny engages with.

Tristan Brooks

When has he punished someone with revenge porn?

Tristan Brooks

Destiny fan here. I think this was pretty fair. The cultishness is pretty easy to admit. I think the nature of streaming lands most streamers of note 3 or higher. The Galaxy-Brainess is a tough one. He is almost always ready to give a take but this is usually something he disclaims and represents a starting point that we usually see change/refine over time. All in all great video!

Tristan Brooks

Over in Australia we are having a 'national conversation' about violence towards women after 27 women have been murdered by men already this year. Which probably doesn't sound much to Americans but in a small, otherwise safe country like Australia this is a big deal. But what's interesting, and relevant to someone the gurus, is that the government is now acknowledging that there is a link between violent and misogynistic content online and these tragic real world outcomes. Especially as some stats show young men are committing more violence then previous generations at their age. So I think that's something that should be kept in mind with the sort of language Destiny uses around women and his willingness to punish women using revenge porn.

Emma

I suggest a twelfth un-ranked category -- Douchebaggery! Nothing to do with guruness, just how much these clowns make your skin crawl!

Mike Nelson

I for one, am sick of all this horrible manipulation of mainstream archeologic media. It affects all of us, and our children. THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

JustTheWorstEver

I agree with you Linda. I usually do. I grudgingly admit that his rhetoric is often pretty good. But I don't like to see someone becoming a sort of role model when his personal morals are such a mess and make some of his rhetoric look pretty hypocritical! Like the sharing nude photos of an ex, that's revenge porn as I understand it. And yes governments have had trouble regulating this sort of thing, so it might not technically be illegal. But it's disgusting. And makes a mockery of his public position on women's rights issues.

Emma

I should also add that as much as I don’t like Destiny because of his morals, I admire the fact that he does do research on the issues he is debating about.

Linda Sears

Thanks for the perspective. I teach young men who are 18-22 years old, so my views are based on the things some of them write and say as well as how they can behave (overly confident, unlikely to pay attention, being dismissive, and/or not doing their work). This could also be because I’m a boring teacher!

Linda Sears

I agree that the cultishness of Destiny comes from the fact that he gives his mostly male younger audience someone to fight on their behalf, so they feel bigger and less anonymous. And this may be my biggest problem with Destiny because, whether he likes it or not, he is modeling his crudest behavior for these boys and young men, though he is not nearly as bad as Andrew Tate.

Linda Sears

Oh! Sorry I'm a bad listener. I blame the fact I'm always multitasking while listening.

Emma

The bonus points don't effect the overall score though.

Christopher Kavanagh

I do feel that sexual liaisons with your fans should almost be another bonus category on the gurometer though. And that would bump him up a bit.

Emma

Oh yep. I also think kick is fundamentally different to twitch in that they exist because their founders own stake.com and couldn’t pay streamers like Aidem Ross and train wreck to gamble in front of their audience anymore. I admit it’s one removed but I do think destiny just doesn’t care about the ethics and is more about the money (which is his right). He says in above link that it wasn’t enough money to completely nuke his community but enough that he’d make changes they don’t like. Implying if he was given enough money he would do something that would be negative enough for his community as to destroy it.

YellowDreams

No, I agree that is a sponsorship deal, I just mean that's not what I was referring to in the episode, but it would certainly count as a sponsorship.

Christopher Kavanagh

Ok I guess our definition of sponsorship is different! Kick I think is primarily making its money funneling to stake though. Can prove it but wouldn’t be surprised and it’s widely discussed (by destiny himself but he doesn’t think promoting gambling is bad even directly)

YellowDreams

I did not know about the Kick deal, but by sponsorship, I meant he doesn't seem to get many advertisers. I'm not particularly surprised he would make a deal with Kick. And yeah Kick is a pretty crap place with and without the gambling promotion.

Christopher Kavanagh

I think you might be right many go to kick after being banned. But he was signed onto a sponsorship which is what I’m commenting on. Not his use of kick. His promo of kick specifically for money. The episode on him would give the impression he has no sponsorship.

YellowDreams

Perhaps but kick specifically was created after stack.com was banned from being streamed there. And many have suspected that they boost gambling streams in their home page to funnel people. Destiny said he has no problem with promoting gambling so I guess that’s consistent. But it is surely profiteering of his audience as he had to change the way his chat and website did chat presumably to funnel people to Kick not YouTube or dgg chat

YellowDreams

Didn’t know about the specifics but yeah lots of people kicked off Twitch, go to kick. A lots less moderation too.

Christopher Kavanagh

Just one clarification he sponsored by Kick in a 12 month contract he signed around 9 months ago which is founded by stake.com the crypto gambling company founders after it was banned from being on stream on twitch. He talks about the deal https://m.youtube.com/clip/Ugkx4C0QWLlwre_UERgJaGS9_X6SOJIDvyOO I agree he’s more straight up about his pofiteering but I think this was a multi million dollar deal with a company who’s primary reason for being created (as I understand it) was because gambling got banned on twitch. Stake.com is an unregulated and in many countries illegal crypto gambling site. The type of thing you cannot ban yourself from for example. I don’t know a lot about kick but I’m told many of their top streams are gambling streams which is unsurprising and it’s likely they pay people like destiny a bunch of money as a funnel to gambling. Would have been interesting to see what Matt thought of that with his background and comments on sponsorship. I personally find that a quite ick.

YellowDreams

I am watching (as opposed to listening) for the first time, and based on appearance, I think Chris should have an American accent and Matt should have an English RP accent.

Josh Lee

The scientist in me knows I shouldn’t care but I do particularly enjoy it when Chris & Matt get cranky with each other like an old married couple.

Gray

I haven’t listened yet, but I think he might score highest on being cultish since he has such a strong fan base.

Linda Sears

How could Destiny be cultish when he sold this merch t-shirt? lol https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F2JAdQbaEAA_CM0?format=jpg&name=small

Yoloswag42069

Yup, Dave Rubin didn't score high!

Christopher Kavanagh

The new format looks really good 👍 I think my inclination was to rate Destiny high because I just find him so unlikable. But I am reminded that guruness and unlikableness are not really correlated.

Emma

Regarding grievance mongering. I think even if people have beefs with individual people. If it's not connected to an overarching sentiment of conspiracy i.e. x group is against me. Then the score should be low. I agree fully with Matt here. The Faucis of the world are individuals but they make the list as individuals because they represent the institution or evil cabals that the person has already decided is against them. Same would be true for a person having a beef with an individual journalist, which is just putting a name to the face of the evil mainstream media, which is against them. Destiny's beefs seem to be juvenile interpersonal beefs unattached to any overarching conspiracy. I think if you let that do too much heavy lifting you risk losing discernment in scores between subjects.
