Decoding Academia 22: Civic Honesty around the Globe

Hey everyone,

Here is an edited freely available preview of the Decoding Academia content that is usually restricted to those in the $5 tier and above.

We discuss a neat behavioural economics study from a couple of years ago that you can access here: https://www.academia.edu/download/63947645/Civic_honesty_around_the_globe20200717-21890-1bbyklv.pdf

Or see the attachment.

Hope you enjoy!

Should this be appearing in the audio RSS feed?

Gabor Mate would be such a good pick for a decoding

Artemis Green

“Matt” with the Bob Ross hair looks so chipper about putting the note on the car windshield. It’s like Chris’s shaved hair transplanted itself onto Matt across oceans and time.

Linda Sears

Off topic. Have Chris and Matt ever discussed Gabor Mate? Curious. Thx

Kgar

p.s. I love how Chris's world is the ivory towers of Oxford while Matt's is a black hole of formulae and some wine

Artemis Green

I really wanted to see you both in tweed jackets with elbow patches, smoking pipes, and holding books after that intro.

Linda Sears

The zoom in on Matt slugging a goblet of wine

This is what happens when society lets academics have fun

THE INTRO

Artemis Green

It’s a real event and an AI image.

Christopher Kavanagh

Of course! I think it’s modelled after Huberman.

Love the high production values. It won't be long before Netflix and Amazon are fighting each other for the broadcast rights. Big money will be on offer. And speaking of money, what kind of "pounds" were those in the wallet? I assume they were Egyptian, or Syrian??? Also, I assumed that photograph of Chris, looking like an extra in a football hooligan film, was AI generated or photoshopped, but the discussion suggested it was real?

Robert Andrews

Holy shit the new intro had me laughing out loud. I hope (and assume, given your tastes) the over the top pretension was an intended joke.

Andy
