Matt is busy preparing a project funding application and I'm still trying to catch up on things after the family health issues. But for anyone wondering we are planning to SOON record both the next Decoding Academia and the Robin DiAngelo episode.

I think DiAngelo's writing is kind of specific to the U.S. experience. I don't know if Australians have the same kind of heritage, slavery of just black people followed by horrible Jim Crow. I'm curious though, have you read this report: https://www.amnesty.org.au/does-australia-have-a-racism-problem-in-2021/ ?

2022-10-28 17:43:14 +0000 UTCI made it 11 mins into the DiAngelo talk and had to stop because I was so annoyed. She says it's in the interest of white people to bang on about classism to shift attention away from the infinitely greater issue of racism. But she doesn't have a trace of self awareness that the opposite parallel statement could be made about her. It's massively in the interest of a very privileged rich lady who THINKS she is on the black side, to try and turn attention away from classism towards racism. Argh. Soooo annoying!!!! How about both are problems and we should work on both. It reminded me of this sweet unemployed older white man who hangs out outside my appartment complex. I think he has some cognitive issues. And I was chatting to him the other day and he told me he is almost completely blind due to cataracts but he's been waiting for surgery for the last 5 years. He didn't say this but that is what happens to people in the public system in Australia. They technically can get free health care but wait times are inhumane. To the point of people becoming functionally blind from a treatable condition. But by DiAngelo's logic he's actually privileged by being white.
