Informal Call in/Chat Thing
Added 2022-05-16 07:30:41 +0000 UTCOne more question for you all.
We have the monthly hangouts for the Galaxy Brains and those will continue but we had some requests for some to be scheduled at times that suit European folk better.
In addition to that we've been experimenting with platforms were we can do short/more informal discussion things, where people can interact or listen or lecture us or whatever.
Chris has tried Twitter spaces when he needs to keep himself stimulated on late night commutes. He has also tried out the 'Callin' app and likes the functionality but is a bit torn about supporting that platform given the CEO is a Dave Rubin-esque dick & it appears to be saturated by terrible people.
Another option is to use the Crowdcast platform we have access to via Patreon... so basically we want to take this time to ask if any of you have any preference for the platform to have some informal discussion/Q&A thing.
If we put it on Twitter Spaces or Callin then it'll be open to the broader public too, if we use Crowdcast it stays in house. But in any case it will likely be a manageable amount of people who participate. We aren't famous!
If you have any alternative suggestions that is also appreciated.
So the Question again is which platform would you prefer we used for informal discussions potentially at ungodly hours:

“a Dave Rubin-esque dick”……sounds pretty shitty…….

2022-05-18 16:58:15 +0000 UTCDiscord got a lot of written responses and Zoom was the silent majority favourite. Zoom is something I'm very familar with but awkward to manage when commuting. Spaces & Crowdcast 2nd place and no-one wants to use Callin. lol.

2022-05-16 22:51:43 +0000 UTCAt risk of angering the DtG gods, i'm going to advertise Alex's Discord server. It's a place to hang out and chat about DtG. Surprisingly few trolls, and we're mostly nice. Check us out if you haven't already. Ps. Also good for audio hang outs as others have mentioned. https://discord.gg/368vMbfX

2022-05-16 14:14:15 +0000 UTCIf you disagree with someone's point they have to take a drink, to encourage rampant angry and confrontational discourse

2022-05-16 13:06:06 +0000 UTCI voted Zoom, but if it ends up being too many people then just stick with Crowdcast.

2022-05-16 10:25:35 +0000 UTCI use Callin to listen to Jesse Singal's show there sometimes and had no idea it was run by a nutter. If you can get past that and I think it would prob be the best option. Appreciate the attempt to schedule more stuff for those of us located in less convenient timezones 🙏🏼

2022-05-16 08:33:56 +0000 UTCPatron of the month visit in real life! Every month a patron is randomly selected and you travel to their city/town and arrange a time to meet at the local pub. Any other patron that lives nearby (whatever that distance is, perhaps establish a perimeter, and proof of residence within said perimeter is required for entry) is allowed to attend and may participate in the exchange if they buy a round. You sleep where you drop, call in sick or establish a gratis study on the efficacy of breaking the parasocial barrier and it’s effects on online discourse. This is all recorded, of course, with the raw audio dumped into the Patreon feed, with the comments switched off. No cameras allowed! Next month… do it again! Yes?
