Just wanted to give a quick update on the planned schedule for the forthcoming episodes over the next few weeks.
This is how we expect things to go (treat the dates with a pinch of salt):
Feb 18th/19th - Robert Wright episode
Feb 25/26th - Virgina Heffernan interview on Gurus, Academic Debates & Edge
Mar 4/5th - Lindsay & O'Fallon episode
Mar 11/12th - Julian Walker interview on Conspirituality & Culture Wars
Mar 18/19th - Jaron Lanier episode
*We also will record the Decoding Academia episode sometime this week...
Outstanding interviews that are very much on the cards are:
1. Timbah on Toast on his Tim Pool series & other videos
2. Elgen Strait from the Falling Out Podcast on growing up in the Moonies & overlaps/differences between modern gurus and cult leaders
3. Liam Bright on various philosophical issues & how correct our politics are
4. The Steak Umms account manager on weird twitter, conspiracy theories, & corporate brands
5. Rebecca Lewis on her research on disinformation and the Alternative Influencers Network
6. David Fuller (prob Feb) with his Guru right to reply and the problems with sensemaking.

What's amazing is that he calls this defense empathy. Since you see he understands the pain that the Russian elite feels of lost imperial colonies and if only the west (and dispicable eastern europeans) would understand this, Putin would put down his toys and go home. One of the worst gurus yet on your radar. What's reassuring is that he doesn't really have much reach.

I think the concept of brands behaving like "relatable" people can be funny but the fact that so many of them do it and the way their posts turn into media events is a bad thing. It obfuscates the fact that virtually everything they do is about making profit, and that associating complex personalities or sets of emotions with a product or brand is literally what the modern advertising industry is about.

And a lot of the upcoming interviews look like fun (and a welcome break from the grinding tedium of IDW/antivaxx muppets). I look forward to Liam mercilessly dissecting your political and epistemological failings :)
