Gwyneth Paltrow episode and other upcoming releases

Hi guys,

You heard our discussion at the end of the last podcast so you know that we have decided to cover Gwyneth Paltrow as our next guru.

I know she falls a little outside our usual scope but I think she is, in many respects, a prototypical online guru. She just happens to be one who is active in the health and wellness space and fairly mainstream. We have discovered however that, like almost everyone on the planet these days, she has a podcast. And from initial forays it’s a doozy! It will also be a nice change to deal with a female guru and possibly avoid the usual bro-ish dynamics.

Aside from this episode, this week on Friday the edited interview with Phrost will appear on the main feed AND we have scheduled the interview with Stuart Ritchie for early next week. We will be covering coronavirus skeptics, as well as the topic of mainstream scientific frauds and gurus. If you have any questions you want us to ask (aside from the ones I’ve already seen posted then let us know!).

We know we need to get the last hangout uploaded too but we are hoping to release that after we finally set up the bonus feed (where audio versions of the bonus content can live). Chris is hoping to have this done in the next few days.

Finally, we have the gurometer scoring episode recorded and almost edited for release. We are thinking to release the video on the Patreon as usual but also to post the audio to the main feed as a sample of the bonus content.

So that’s what’s going on at the minute! Should be some content dropping fairly soon.

Thanks everyone!

I have considered suggesting Peter Coffin as a lefty guru, but while I have watched several of his videos, I'm not sure about how much of a culty figure he is.

I literally became a supporter for this! love the work!

Love to see you guys stretching outside the comfort zone. Paltrow’s the perfect subject for this podcast.

Oh very good suggestion!

As far as guests to talk about gurus with, I think that the hosts of knowledge fight and/or behind the bastards could be really fun.

I await the Paltrow episode with great relish. We can but hope the “grift” knob on the Gurometer goes up to 11.

Great questions! Will try to cover most of them!

Given that Stuart is an expert on intelligence, I have a few questions surrounding the race-IQ debate that might be worth asking: 1) What does Ritchie think about Sam Harris' defence of Charles Murray's work on race and IQ? Does he think that his, Murray's, work is even worth discussing? 2) Is it normal, or reasonable, for someone like Sam Harris to focus so much attention on the race-IQ debate? 3) Would Ritchie think debating an issue, such as race and IQ, with Sam Harris worthwhile or does it risk giving credence to a voice like Stephan Molenoux and other racists? 4) How does Ritchie go about explaining the nuances of debates around race and IQ when the topic is so endlessly complex (in particular, the statistical methodological processes used to draw conclusions). Cheers
