But men tried to murder me just a few hours before I shot this and Francesco was traumatized and had to go home immediately, taking the only remaining camera with him. So I did what I could in the hours I was given. In a way, it was cathartic.
As a child, Sarajevo was the first piece of history I "witnessed". It fundamentally altered the entire course of my life, knowing what could happen to us. What does happen to us. It opened my eyes to the other side of the world.
I could have made this video more objective like the others in the series, but I chose not to. Not because I think it will change minds, or because I think it makes the story better. I did it because it was how I felt. And acting on what we feel is precisely what got us here.

Sorry to hear what happened to you. It would be great if you could do an addendum someday about what made humans see it appropriate to wage war on other humans. What fed the ethnic nationalism? Were there grievances beyond the historical, more current events that became warped by propaganda? Were they suppressed for too long in the name of Yugoslav unity? How could such grievances be better balanced to avoid this happening again and again?
