Top tip that Big Clive shared a while ago, was not to twist the strands before inserting into a terminal. While it does help to keep the strands together, it makes the overall diameter slightly bigger. You would probably have got those extra strands in without the twist. (twisting also reduces the contact quality on most types of crimp, but that doesn't apply if you are soddering or soldering.) I think twisting is still a good technique if you're using terminals with a clamping screw, as that gives a firmer bundle of strands for the screw to press into. Untwisted strands tend to spread to the sides as you tighten.
