Critical Program Reading: A 16mm Film Transfer Test

Hello! I'm pretty far along the next video and have been doing some test transfers. I picked up a Lumix GH5-II, a camera upgrade I've been eyeing for quite a while, once I confirmed how the synchro-scan function works. And I'm happy to report that it makes flicker-free footage of the projector!

It's not perfect - I don't have a very fast lens at a focal length long enough (the projector I have has a terribly long throw) so frames periodically get blended. If I could set the shutter speed faster I could probably ensure that doesn't happen, but regardless this looks pretty good!

And relatedly, I was able to track down the correct connector to get the sound signal out of the projector. The amp could use a recapping, I'm sure, but the buzz in the signal is very minor. So overall, I'm quite pleased.

So anyway, this is a film that I got in my random pile from eBay that's an interesting piece of educational history. I figured I'd capture it. Over time I might do this to more films and upload them to the internet archive.

ok toodles

Also, I forgot to say thank you for this excellent capture! :-)

That’s indeed a very interesting perspective on coding and I would also love to see the other parts of the series. However: Is is only me who thinks, that the GOTO in this hypothetic language could be removed entirely? We do have an ELSE statement in the final version, so I don’t see why you would need a GOTO to skip that part.
