An update for y'all (and a thing I can now show you!)

This video isn't of the spooky variety, but it is of the rambly variety! Isn't Halloween all about rambleys? Right? That's it?

Uh, anyway, link:

So yeah, October didn't end like I wanted it to and it's been a fairly frustrating week. But stuff like that happens! For now, I hope you enjoy this update and the special thing in it

On Internet Connectivity: We had a monopoly with Optimum in our town. However, both T-Mobile and Verizon are offering 5G Home Internet. I don’t know where you’re located, but if you get fast 5G service, you might see if Verizon or T-Mobile offers it in your area.

don't ever stop being thrilled by the dark magic of automatic exposure, you aren't alone. go with the demographics as you see the need, but rest assured there are plenty of folks out here who love these "this thing which we all take for granted is actually done with wizardry and here's the wizard behind the curtain" videos

Protogen fursona. How original. 🙄

It's certainly solvable. The question is how to solve it elegantly. For example, if the rotor is exposed you could use a photosensor to trigger exposure everytime the rotor is in a certain position regardless of it's speed and even if it's variable. You just need glue a piece with a hole or a tiny mirror to it and use a laserpointer or maybe just an LED.

I love ceiling fans PLEASE make the ceiling fan weight rig

Maybe record at 120 fps and merge five frames together somehow hehe :D

For the record, i liked all the photography videos so far and would love to see more. They were some of my favorites. It has in fact inspired me to get the old equipment from my dad out of storage and give it a shot!

You can fix the lock relay (the buzzy one) by making sure the moving piece of metal is demagnetized and adjusting the spring to be tighter. most importantly check to make sure the moving piece of metal is seated properly and is not too lose or sloppy. Sometimes you have to use pliers to bend the metal frame to make sure the moving part stays in place.. I sent you a message on patreon please look. Ozzie English - Chicago Pinball

A coworker of mine's son works for SpaceX doing Starlink stuff. They're constantly improving the satellites and launching newer generation sats. I have no idea if that means their backhaul is going to get faster or not, but I would assume it would HAVE to at some point. I thought about dumping Comcast for Starlink earlier this year and I'm kind of glad I didn't. Not only does it sound like it's pretty slow, but I heard they have, like, 6 customer service people for 300,000+ customers. That's going exactly as well as you'd expect. Don't quote me on those numbers, but the orders of magnitude are correct. I have a friend who refurbishes pinball machines. He does meticulous restoration of the artwork and paint, but sends the electronics out to someone else to deal with. I've talked to him about maybe doing some electronics work for him but we haven't made that happen yet.

Heya, I haven’t been around much lately. I’m guessing you’re referring to the Span smart electrical panel? They’re pretty ace! I did some electronics design for them a couple of years ago. They released an integrated add-on for the panel to do ‘smart EV charging’ about a year ago. I watched a Fully Charged Show video recently about MyEnergi.com, which was also very impressive integration of solar, battery, EV charging, etc, but not (yet?) a smart panel…

Have you looked at fixed wireless internet? Ours with AT&T has actually been quite a bit better than Starlink. Consistent 60-70Mbps down and 25 up even during peak hours, and it's half the price. You do need a line-of-sight to a cell tower but where you live I assume is a lot flatter. We tried Starlink for a few months and ended up cancelling it because yeah, sometimes it's over 100Mbps but usually you're lucky to get 15 in the evenings, and just a tiny bit of obstruction from a tree near the house caused it to drop out every few minutes. Honestly if you don't want to do a video about Starlink specifically I would still like to see one about rural internet tech in general.

Just my six pennies worth about that projector and flicker. In my opinion you will never be able to eliminate a flicker. That's because the film projector is free running and not locked. As you may be aware, here in the UK (and elsewhere) we run at 25/50fps. So for original telecine, a projection system was run at 25fps and hard locked to the studio camera system. Therefore perfect images with no flicker. When I used to run a small TV studio we used (originally) black & white VIDICON cameras and because of the image 'lag' even at 24fps we could get film onto video. This was still the case when using the Sony Trinicon cameras which were colour but still using vidicons (stripe faced). Therefore images on TV still showed no flicker. You have two problems, a projector that's not locked in terms of speed (free running) and a camera which might be hard locked to 24fps. The projector will drift up and down from 24fps and either show a dark line or will just flicker.

That smart pannal is a verry good idea was pulling over 27kw last night on my 225v supply so was pulling about 120a on my 80a service, not an unusual load for me just didn't realise how high it was 2x EVs at 7kw each 2x Powerwalls at 6.2kw charging rate tumble dryer 3kw and dishwasher and washing machine that spike at 3kw for a few seconds every so often, according to an installer my house would need a 14kw heat pump as my house is 300+ years old with stone walls so not much insulation
