It's a Connextrasvaganza! Looking at the Tru-Tone Christmas lights

Hello and Merry Christmas! I've brought for you the beginnings of the year-end Connextrasvaganza. It's the first of five videos (you'll get another one in just a few minutes) that I've hastily put together to close out the year.

https://youtu.be/LUTx3uwuQFE

None of them are very polished, however there will be a Sights and Sounds video among them! I've been working on that one and am nearly done. I had hoped to make some sort of progress on a video for the main channel so that I could have one more out before the new year but one of the videos will be more involved than I imagined and the other one - well it's about clocks. One of the videos you'll be seeing is my ramblings about that subject and it's going to serve as a sort of test to see if that video has any right going to the main channel.

My plan is to release these daily from 12/27 onward as a sort-of countdown to the new year. None of them are... exactly great. But hopefully you find it fun if nothing else. I'll post them here as they get finished, and then make them public on YouTube as the days come.

Okeydoke, another's coming soon!

It's a Connextrasvaganza! Looking at the Tru-Tone Christmas lights

I was very pleased this year that I managed to find a perfect rainbow of LED lights, in the much less vivid "phosphor" colours which are commonplace now. Christmas sets had Yellow, Red, and Green, and sadly the deep LED blue A lucky find was the Halloween section for "scary Purple" and "pumpkin Orange"

Regarding your comments about the sound: There is definitely more room tone in this video than usual. That point aside, thanks for turning me on to these lights. I’m looking forward to having some for next year’s holiday season. Happy New Year!

With sets like these where the bulbs have "normal" screw-sockets, those sorts of failures are rare. These are all literally 120V light bulbs as each socket is wired in parallel. Their simplicity is quite a benefit, and this is the third year I've had four of my 5 sets out. The biggest challenge with them is handling and storing them since they're fragile, but they have significantly fewer longevity issues than your typical set of miniature lights (LED or not). I have had to replace a few bulbs here and there but the strand itself is totally functional. One socket had the neutral tab bent away so that it wasn't making good contact with the bulb edge but that was an easy fix. Quite honestly if these LED bulbs have a lifespan even on the short side of a typical LED, I expect them to last 10 years easily.

I love the video man, and I understand the point you are making in it, but.. and because this is the internet, with no tonal inflection in raw text, I'm trying very hard to choose my words where I dont give the false impression of "Well akshually"ing you, but wouldnt the break even be something you are constantly chasing, with having to replace bulbs every year? At least in my personal experience, LED christmas lights, regardless of how well they are stored, always seem to have trouble surviving the 11 months in storage between christmasses. I'm not focusing on this one issue to try to discredit the bulbs or anything, I just felt the replacement chase would be a big impact on the break even.

We used to put up strands of these C9's when I was a kid (50 years ago). It looked awesome. I'm not sure how my Dad wired them. I do remember kids would come around at night and unscrew them (must have had gloves on) and then would throw them in the street because they would kind of explode.

The Americans and their Christmas Lighting 😉🎄 When I see these bulbs, for some reason, I always need to think about this comic: https://www.gocomics.com/garfield/2018/12/13

6*5=what? Am I falling for your scheme to boost engagement?

Gotta be honest, I don't know if this is gonna happen. I'm honestly enjoying having longer hair, but I will agree I need some practice getting it to behave sometimes

I say this with love and as a friend from afar; You could use a haircut. Otherwise, the video is of course excellent and even when you aren’t trying very hard, your production value is excellent.

I got a few of the Tru-Tone lights after the last video and I'm really impressed. We had 1 out of 25 DOA, seems like the connection between the two LED filaments is bad.
