Heat pump update!
Added 2021-02-24 20:27:40 +0000 UTCHello!
I wanted to give you all an update on the next video. It's taking me longer than I had hoped to get started but I'm making some solid progress and hope to have a video out for you within a few days.
But, it's gonna be a two-parter! I'm already past 16 minutes and have just gotten to the star of the show. I may be able to edit it down somewhat but I feel this topic requires a more complete explanation of the refrigeration cycle than I've ever given, and luckily one of you has supplied me with some excellent footage of a demo rig used in HVAC/R instruction. I will be giving viewers the time to skip to if they'd like, as this will be what, the fourth time we've gone into refrigeration‽ But it's very necessary knowledge for understanding heat pumps, particularly how they are able to achieve 400% efficiency.
I'll be checking to see if I have any redundancies in the script as I know that's happened a few times... but I think you'll like this a lot. It's a video I've wanted to do for years and I finally have the means to do it. Part 2 will be addressing the weaknesses of heat pumps, a timely discussion given what Texas just went through, and how we can fix them.
See you soon!

Gee, you really left me hanging for a while by talking about all the problems with very cold weather and heat pumps, and not mentioning the geo-exchange option until the end! I'll tune in for the next video! I'd love to have one of these babies: NJ is pretty mild all winter so I wouldn't even need to go geo on my tiny house lot. But my house is c. 1940 and uses steam radiators. Retrofitting would be rather expensive because of the need to install all the ductwork for forced air.
2021-03-05 19:01:01 +0000 UTCThis sounds hot! If you put the heat pump in reverse, it would sound cool!

2021-02-27 04:07:47 +0000 UTCTwo-parter sounds like the best idea. The nitty gritty of the system and how it best functions, then another for the specific application. That way new viewers can start at the first video and branch to your others which involve the systems. Looking forward to them!

2021-02-26 14:16:05 +0000 UTCI was wondering, could you possible do a multi-part breakdown of the history of moving pictures similar to what you did with the history of audio and the history of television?
2021-02-26 08:49:57 +0000 UTCPlease feel free to do a mult-part epic. I still fondly remember the CED saga. If anything deserves it, it's heat pumps!
2021-02-26 02:29:08 +0000 UTCInterrobanging seems like a good plot device for spy movies.

2021-02-25 16:57:47 +0000 UTCNext up: a deep dive into the interrobang.

2021-02-25 08:13:46 +0000 UTCThe introduction of inverter drive technology to compressors is something worth talking about.

2021-02-24 22:38:28 +0000 UTCMulti-part video is fine and nice. Also if you want to help viewers skip in the video, consider the "new" chapter mechanism which turns out to be surprisingly easy to use: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9884579

2021-02-24 22:35:30 +0000 UTCIt sounds like you may be discussing it already, but it does bear mentioning what I'll call the "resistive heat cliff" that contributed to killing the Texas power grid. I love heat pumps and hope to switch to one from my current natural gas furnace, but at a wide scale there are still issues that need to be addressed by smart people and policy.
2021-02-24 22:35:01 +0000 UTCI would observe that redundancy can be one of the Achiles heels of your production process, if you are concerned that some of that might slip through then crowd-sourcing some script oversight to patrons might help. As they say, many eyes make all bugs shallow. :)

2021-02-24 22:31:16 +0000 UTCIf the film is not in the can, so to speak, it would be interesting to know what the maximum possible efficiency would be, and why.
2021-02-24 21:41:44 +0000 UTCThis is so cool. I just inherited a house with an old oil heater and are really looking into heat pumps for heating the house :) so fitting! Thank you!

2021-02-24 21:24:18 +0000 UTCI watched the RCA CED series (all 4 parts) twice because it was so interesting! That, and because those intros on the first 2 videos brought me back to my youth because my family had one of those things!

2021-02-24 21:01:03 +0000 UTCI would happily wait and for me at least I would love it if it was 45mins long. I love long videos. Infact longer the better. But I understand stats wise. General YouTube watches done. I'm sure all us lot on here would watch it all however long it was.... You do a fantastic job! 👏 like no one else... The research you must do to cover topics in such depth must be so time consuming but the effort you put in makes to most enjoyable, Interesting, educational and funny videos. Keep it your amazing work.

2021-02-24 21:00:59 +0000 UTCI really do appreciate that you go over the relevant bits of information in each of your videos. It makes them all a bit more approachable when it's not a constant trail of "As I explained in this other video, I'm not going to do so here"
2021-02-24 20:48:59 +0000 UTCAs a veteran of (watching) two-part Game Sack episodes, I'm willing to get the heat pump story in two parts.

2021-02-24 20:39:08 +0000 UTCSomehow I'm entirely unsurprised that Alec is well-versed in proper usage of the interrobang.

2021-02-24 20:37:49 +0000 UTCSpeaking for myself and probably most of your Patrons, I don't mind geeking out with you for any length of time. If you're worried about the video being too long for the laymen, maybe throw some chapter time markers in the description!
2021-02-24 20:34:51 +0000 UTC400% efficiency?

2021-02-24 20:34:19 +0000 UTCTake the time that you need, thanks for the update!
2021-02-24 20:32:31 +0000 UTCThe interrobang is everything.

2021-02-24 20:31:40 +0000 UTCi was today years old when i learned that an interrobang is supported by Unicode, apparently‽ too cool. this channel never ceases to teach us great things.
