Figaro speakers

This is just a simple Connextras video. Some people seemed to want more hashtag Figaro Content, and for those that do here's a little something. It didn't go as planned.

I must admit I do kind of enjoy making these completely off-the-cuff things. It's amazing when I can go from thought to video in something like an hour. But certainly don't feel compelled to watch ;)

Figaro speakers

Comments

Hi all! For anyone who is interested in these pike cars, I found this 1989 PAO registered in Ontario for $8500 CAD. https://www.kijijiautos.ca/cars/nissan/used/?utm_source=com.apple.UIKit.activity.CopyToPasteboard&utm_content=vip&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ios_social_buttons#vip=15045861

That’s a really nice interior for an early 90s vehicle.

LOL, the honk at the end

Those Kicker CS speakers are actually quite decent and should hold up well. Looks like you just got a bad one, hopefully a return swap will get that corrected. Remove that plastic speaker bracket and drill some new holes to line up with the speaker hole pattern. You will want to lay a thin strip of weather-strip foam between the speaker and that plastic bracket to prevent rattles. The ring foam between the speaker and the door card is an important step too - it helps "couple" the speaker to the door so the sound enters the vehicle cleanly. You can get replacement foam rings online, search for "car audio fast rings". The new speakers will be a dramatic improvement over those old Clarion ones!

Good luck with the mold mitigation, or rather good luck finding ANYTHING with bleach in it in July 2020!

It's true, I did love what you were playing.

"Figaro-ing things out" reminds me of all the nicknames I had in middle and high school :). (See my last name.) My favorite was Figadelphia, and I ended up having my first ever Fig Newton snack near Philadelphia. Since it was during a school trip to Washington DC, there was a huge build up to the moment among me and my group of friends - "Figgy" having his first Fig Newton in (or at least near) Figadelphia. I genuinely didn't mind the nicknames, partially because they made up for my common and boring first name.

I enjoy the videos about this car, Its quite interesting seeing the differences between American market and Japanese market cars.

You uh, really got a jump out of me with that honk at the end.

Doesn't look like the speaker had much protection from moisture at all, maybe the cones just rotted away. I really love the way they integrated everything and it seems crazy that the equivalent Micra had no integration at all.

to check the phase you can play some music holding the left and right speakers close together face to face. If they are out of phase then cancel each other out. With the phase correct the sound is much louder.

Can we arrange a Figaro drive by of my house? I’m so in love with it! I’m sure you wouldn’t mind spending an hour or two driving through Chicagoland traffic in a postage stamp so that we could socially distance for fifteen minutes and make Doug DeMuro jokes, right? 😉

I love these improvised videos on connextras. Keep them up and don't feel bad for them :)

Mould can be cleaned up with bleach. Also kudos for playing a song from my favourite game.

I shall have great fun! I ain't afraid of no soldering!

Thank you for not putting LEDs in that car. Inauthentic as they may be, they also do to not play well with dash lighting in cars of that era. Experience taught me that the hard way. When you’ve got your first car and you’re enjoying tinkering and learning though, they look good for the three weeks they work, at least from the perspective of a 19 year old. Something else experience taught me is that while the dash lights are probably replaceable, the bulbs in the radio are probably soldered, so have fun with that.

Clarion indeed has been used in Nissan’s for their branded radio at least back in this era..1986 Multi /Stanza Wagon used one with a separate cassette deck with auto reverse. It also had FM diversity (main hood antenna and a rear windshield antenna) it also had a remote volume and seek knob as the radio was placed quite low. As far as CD player, my old crappy pioneer in my old 95 Honda used little dampers to allow the CD transport to float. Found that out when trying to fixit after getting warranty work on the CD deck. Handled most bumps quite well. Perhaps there will be some hint on the AM radio issues when you take it apart for bulb. I did this a couple times for m old face plate radios as well. Whole radio may be “fun”. Maybe “Mr. Carlson Lab” can have a go at the AM portion.

Next time you should get some infinity branded speakers so you can pretend like they're from Nissan's luxury marque but with a y instead of an I.
