The Sunbeam Toaster Rises Again!

Hi ho, Patroninos!

https://youtu.be/bLk1cjZ4ll0

This has been uploading since forever ago. Internet troubles today. Anyway, it's more or less a simple (but fun) update about the Sunbeam toaster and a repeated plea for the toaster industry to get their act together and just copy this design already. I discovered that it handles a particular kind of bread with absolute perfection and thought how can we be reinventing the toaster all the time when it was done best in 1948?

The Sunbeam Toaster Rises Again!

It's probably oiled paper.

So I just took my ridiculously overpriced Sunbeam toaster apart for a little cleaning and noticed that the internal wires are all insulated with something that looks like paper. I’m concerned that the insulation is actually asbestos. Can you confirm whether it is or isn’t? Either way I think I’m going to need to replace that internal wiring before using the toaster.

Samson Wick

Are you alive?

Matheus Bitencourt

I **may** have just bought one of these for a pretty penny. It is ironic because, my step mum had one of these until maybe 10 years ago and got rid of it because it was slow (plus it didn't meet the aesthetic of the kitchen). Also I'm in Australia and these toasters seem to be much rarer here than over in the US.

Scott Rowland

Anyone notice that sometimes these Patreon posts are liked/hearted by you when you did not like/heart them to begin with? Weird.

Arthur Robillard

@Technology Connections After your original video, I have been fortunate enough to acquire 1 of these toasters for myself and I absolutely agree its function is almost magical!

Mark G

Another question... Why doesn't Sunbeam make this toaster anymore? They still make toasters, just not this one. I think we need a Part III video!

John Sanchez

So, what happens if you put a slice of fresh and a slice of frozen bread together? You need a shirt that says "Unconventional" with the Sunbeam toaster.

John Sanchez

People on YouTube have beaten me, but Watermelons are pretty delicious.

Cameron Steel

Looking forward to the sweded version!

You actually do have links to the other videos in the description! I had thought youtube must have started removing links to other videos from descriptions because they'd figured out how to monetize people looking for part one, because I've watched many, many, *many* videos where they say they have a link to their other video about the topic and...there is never, ever, a link to their other video.

Michaela Pereckas

The best commercials by Alec :-P. Let's see if the toast pops up in oncoming videos ;-)

MrHammond

Came here to note this... that was a new level of subtle.

Nate D

OK, YouTube has "improved" their interface again, so that when the viewer (that's us) shows down a segment which the producer (that's you, Alec (Alex?)) <-Nested parenthesis, but I digress... they "adjust" the sound so it stays synchronized to the action, but in the same range of the audio spectrum as if you were listening at full speed. So, the chipmunk chirping when you spoke during the frozen toasting period still sounds like metal claws on a blackboard. Could you add that segment, at normal speed, during the credits? Or provide close-captioning for it? We'd hate to miss one syllable of your wise words!

Mike Bird

And the bloopers at the end always make me smile.

Robert McCullough

"Chop chop!" Lol! Thanks for the update!

Mr. Hunter Jones

I've had one of these for years ... sad to say it has recently stopped working. I'm going to have to watch your other video again and see if I can fix mine.

Robert McCullough

No, that's another advantage!

Mike Bird

Keep looking! I searched most of last year and ended up finding one for $35 that “didn’t work”. It just needed adjusted.

OMG that's how old I'll be next month !!!!!! Ahhhh, the age of a toaster.......but I'm smart too though :-)

Colin Grimshaw

...yes, but does it come with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi? 🤔

Per Hedetun

...a fancy toaster with different technology for less than $50? Also, what's more, have you seen the prices of those used Sunbeam toasters on eBay?! Also, please could someone tell me if those toasters will run on 220v?

Excellent video! Your All Star joke alone makes me proud to support you on Patreon. “Cost cutting beyond belief” (if I remembered the phrasing right?) was just icing on the cake.

Josh Dick

Great video! But don’t modern toasters have a frozen button you press and it automatically increases the toast time so you don’t have to manually adjust?

I come for the tech explanations and stay because of the puns and snark :D

Jason Wellband

Love these types of videos. Can you do a video on the tech behind microwaves?

Thank you, this made my day.

Wes Deviers

I both love and hate this videos. Yes, I learned about this toaster via these videos, but every time one drops, the eBay prices soar to like $150+. I just made an offer on one for $65, we’ll see if it goes through.

Richard Stifle

That shooting star joke made this whole video for me.

Kevin Kostka

Ha! I need to give this a like just for "toast has become my jam".

Don Eitner

I hate to say, but your previous video made me go on eBay and buy one of those toasters from the 90s (that has the lever rather than a dial, and a less-likely-to-result-in-your-electrocution double-switched power cord.

Sean Hearrell

Now I want to see you review the smart toasters and see if they actually perform as well.

Loved the bit on YT Cards/Description. Hits close to home. Reminds me of the old days of annotations.

James

I’m literally waiting for water to boil and you drop a video in my lap? You’re too kind, sir!

Yay such a delightful surprise
