New Video! The conclusion to the HPS lamp

There was a lot more to unpack from this topic than I realized, and it actually changed my mind regarding the use of LEDs in roadway lights.  I had originally thought that sodium lighting was good enough, but after reading the research and re-evaluating the areas near me that had been switched over, I think the direction we're headed makes sense.

For next week, something completely different!

I try to bring up environmental issues whenever possible!

I pinned a comment along these lines (perhaps it was yours!) and I think this might be a good benefit. The only thing I think might be a problem is how long it might take to fall asleep after driving under these lights for a while. That's a worthy area of research, I think!

I was not expecting you to address light pollution.

You know, I wonder if the "circadian rhythm disruption" effect could be argued for. I mean, would you *want* normal melatonin absorption for people going 60-80mph at night on the freeway? =D

This is why I love your channel. The stories of the everyday technology around us is fascinating.

I'm curious what the issue with PWM is. At high frequencies, it really should be totally imperceptible, but I'd love to see a video discussing the data on the subject.

I don't mind the new LED lighting here in my town but HPS will always have a place in my heart, even if they are less safe. Although the prospect of having dimming LED lighting is questionable, as I'd imagine the most cost effective method of dimming would be PWM, which I think could make things significantly less safe. I already see people with PWM low-beam LED headlights and do not understand how it doesn't drive the driver mad. Maybe I'm just a skeptic. I'd love to hear your opinions on the safety and practicality of PWM dimmed LEDs and what some better options aside from PWM could be.

That is a far deeper dive into the physiology of the eye (etc.) than I would have normally taken, but that kept my interest well. Basically you don't dumb down or patronise your audience - which is good. You could do with the occasional pause or slowing down for the really important facts.
