Early for All! The Chevy Bolt summer range test

I hadn't planned on making this video so soon or so quickly, but we got quite the heatwave recently in Chicago (and we're still in it for another day), and it worked out that I could bring the Bolt back with me to make this video. This will stay unlisted until the following video is up, and they'll be released to the public together.

I've been working on captions for this for the past hour and a half and I'm too tired to keep going. I had planned to get captions done before I sent this to you, and though I don't know if any of my Patrons need to use them, I promise they'll be coming soon.

It's kinda long a rambly, but I hope you enjoy!

Keep preaching the Gospel Electric, Alec! :-)

Very informative, thank-you. I live in Northern Ireland and currently drive a 2016 VW Golf (Rabbit to you guys) diesel which gets around 58 miles to our (slightly larger 20oz) gallon. I've been looking seriously at moving to an EV. Popular models over here are the BWM i3 and models from French producer Renault and (for the rich), Jaguar & Tesla. I've seen Chevy automobiles over here, though not the Bolt - impressive performance btw. We live in the country where, being Ireland, it rains a lot, and we don't have a garage so I'll need to look into some sort of outdoor charging arrangement. Enjoying the videos, keep up the good work..

Apparently they have their own Wikipedia article! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illinois_Tollway_oasis I'm surprised they date back to 1959, when the tollway first opened. I would imagine in Illinois people are pretty fond of them, and I know I have many memories of visiting the Lake Forest oasis while travelling to either Six Flags or my grandparents in Zion.

Not really. I've never noticed a range drop in the Volt, and I had read somewhere that the rate of acceleration in an EV doesn't really affect efficiency. Even at high torque the motor is nearly as efficient as accelerating slowly. You just gotta make sure you're braking nice and slow to get all that regen.

For Illinois, that might as well have been Mount Everest! But yeah, it wasn't much.

Living in the mountain West. had to chuckle when you mentioned that you were climbing a grade.

I can see an EV being an interesting proposition as you consider the economics of distance covered versus energy expended. Thanks for the metric units. It shows regard for your international audience 😉

Also, does having it in sport mode (13:48) play an effect on the range?

THOSE DIRTY FLOORMATS PERTURB ME IMMENSELY... Love the video! You should vlog!

Sam Blakey

wow, those oases are wild. We definitely don't have those on the west coast and I've driven the whole length of I5, but they look cool

I find the lack of metric units disturbing. (that was a joke! I love your videos, man! but I also LOVE the metric system)
