This is the kind of trilogy that will be a great watch for the next 20 years. Scale/impact wise it reminds me so much of LotR. I watched this in IMAX when it came out and when the credits rolled I just sat there speechless for 10 minutes, almost like I knew I would be talking about this movie for the next 20 years to come.

2024-09-20 19:51:37 +0000 UTCThe vision when Chani stabbs Paul in Dune 1 doesn't mean what you think. Paul says after that vision "I thought I saw my death, only it wasn't. I know a knife is important somehow..." That was supposed to meant that Chani was the one that would give him the knife that ultimately would lead him to begin the path into The Kwisatz Haderach. That path began when he killed Jamis. The visions told him "Paul Atreides must die for Kwisatz Haderach to rise", meaning Paul would have to metaphorically die, kill his old self by taking a life and becoming the chosen one, because "when you take a life you take your own". Also, The Kwisatz Haderach was always supposed to be a man with Bene Gesserit powers that would be capable of not only seeing the past but also every possible outcome of the future with the purpose of leading humanity into a better path away from extinction. The Bene Gesserit created the breeding program, crossing bloodlines for thousands of years to create that man, that's why they only conceived females (they have perfect control over their bodies including control over the gender of their fetus), because the time was not yet there to bring forth the male chosen one. Jessica however wanted to give Leto Atreides a son, and so she defied the Bene Gesserit's orders to only bear daughters. So, no, Jessica was not hoping Paul would die so that his sister would become the one instead, because she could never be the Kwisatz Haderach. Hope this helped. When Jessica drinks the water of life, the eye that opens is actually the eye of her baby. The poison affects both of them, giving the fetus the same reverand mother abilities as jessica which is why she is pictured with blue eyes in part one and near the end of this one.
