I appreciated your thoughts at the beginning relating to Jack and Joke. I would also add that even though Joke has been doing these "good" things for people until Jack came into the picture I don't believe he had any genuine interaction with any of the people he helped. It placed him in the reality of someone's particular life that he also felt a connection with. I think that made him even more remorseful about the negative impact he had on Jack's life and feels more desire/pressure to help him in any way he can. Same for them hopefully not changing Joke's character. That's what makes him interesting and charming. It's enough that he is doing it for different reasons but I don't want to lose the essence of what he's about. Especially since he's been doing it for so long that it's such a big part of him.
