DD 203 Ch 14

Before our party could even make it halfway back, the blur that was Neldra solidified in front of us.
She spotted Elysara and quickly grabbed my arm to keep us near her. I raised an eyebrow at the Royal Censor as she easily kept pace with those of us in the raid.
"With you coming in, I assume that those quakes were outside as well," I said.
Neldra gave me a sharp nod, a clear sign that she was very much on duty right now. Her head was on a swivel as she looked back and forth, alert for danger.
"Outside, you're going to find most of your tents have collapsed," she said with a grimace. "Everyone's tent has collapsed and there's a lot of confusion." She stayed glued to Elysara's side and kept me within her line of sight.
An idea occurred to me, and I turned to Des. "Would you open up a portal? We need to get somewhere so we can inform the UG what's happened. Crimson has been looking into these earthquakes."
Des held out a hand and then frowned, jerking her hand forward again.
"Performance anxiety?" Harley quipped.
"No," Des's tone was serious. "It says that I have no known locations." She frowned. Her frown deepened as she pointed her hand forward and a portal appeared ten feet in front of her.
"What does that mean?" Neldra glanced at me, which I guess was fair because it was my ability. However, so far only Des and Crimson were actively using the ability.
"Not a clue," I said, frustrated at the development, but there was no sense in dwelling on it. "Regardless, let's get outside and figure out what the situation is. Neldra, would you be willing to go to the nearest...?"
The censor held her hand up to cut me off. "I don't leave Elysara's side. Until Miriam and Tish get back, I will be planted next to her. Chaos is always the perfect time for someone to strike, and that means you should stay with me as well," Neldra said.
"Alright then, sounds like we are making a trip to the safe zone." Neldra was our greatest asset. Might as well bring her along for the trip.
"You aren't going anywhere without me," Des said in a hurry.
"Nor me," Fayeth chimed in.
I could see from the eyes of the rest of my immediate party, there was little chance of me going anywhere without them.
It was over the normal group of five.
However, that was just going to have to be a reality. With Neldra in the group, it wasn't like this dungeon floor would bother us.
"What about the rest of us?" Harley asked.
"Stay put. We'll get out of the raid, we'll go get some help, and then figure it out from there." There was no sense in everyone running off. Besides, they were safe here.
Harley still looked nervous, however, I could see several of the other leaders within the group nodding in understanding. I knew they would do their job and try to keep everyone calm.
My smaller party exited the raid to find the scene much like Neldra described.
The oasis that looked like a tropical paradise outside the raid was covered in collapsed tents. The earthquake had been heavy enough to dislodge the stakes the other adventurers had put in the ground.
People were still pulling themselves out from the tents and shouting at each other, trying to understand what had just happened. Our exit from the raid didn't go unnoticed, causing heads to turn our way.
Machen spotted me and started jogging my way. The berserker was the leader of Pendulum Academy. His mohawk was laying across the side of his head.
"Do you know what's happening?" He asked, several of his ladies catching up with him.
"We're gonna go find out. My party is going to go up to the 30th floor safe zone," I told him.
Professor Sai had been quiet this whole time that Neldra had been there, but as we started discussing the plan, she spoke up. "I've been unable to communicate through my CID." She tapped away at her device. "There might be a larger problem than we think," she said. "I'll go down to the 35th floor safe zone just in case something went wrong on the 30th floor safe zone."
"What do you want us to do?" Machen asked the professor.
"Just wait, continue as if you normally would." She pushed on her glasses, suddenly a figure of authority.
A moment later,Marin made it over, as did Prince Albar and Professor Gafar from the Royal College. “This looked like a group to discuss a plan.” The prince strode into the center of the huddle.
I resisted rolling my eyes at the prince.
"We're going up to the 30th floor to try and contact the UG, and Professor Sai here is going to go down to the 35th floor as a backup," I said. There was no reason not to keep everyone informed.
"I'll come with you," the professor from the Royal College glanced at Professor Sai. "We should probably leave someone to help keep everyone calm."
Professor Sai glanced around at the chaos of the collapsed tents. "The students are strong enough to deal with the monsters on this floor, and I would advise that no one go into the raid without supervision." Professor Sai pointedly glanced at Prince Albar. "Right now, understanding what's happened and why we've lost communication on the 32nd floor, it should route through the 30th floor safe zone."
Professor Gafar glanced at his CID again as if to check it was still not working correctly. "So checking the 35th floor is important. Who knows if that earthquake affected multiple floors. It could have affected systems on the 30th floor.”
“Or just the repeater relays that cross between floors." Candace was standing behind me. The professor frowned at her, but the blonde shrugged. "That's how they work. That's how we keep between floors. No signal can actually penetrate between floors of the dungeon. It's only with repeaters they use at every entrance that we're able to keep any communication."
The professor seemed upset that he had a student explaining how the UG’s technology worked to him. However, he calmed himself and straightened his uniform. "Of course, I too understand the basics of how the UG keeps communication up."
Candace pursed her lips, not believing a word he had just said.
Regardless, I tried to clear the air. In times of crisis, it was best not to let people fight and cause more discord. We needed to keep calm, no matter how much I disliked the professor. "What is important now is that we re-establish communication. If what Candace said is correct, then the best solution might just be to get one floor up and down from here and see what communication we can send out. If you still don't get anything, continue to the safe zones."
I glanced around to see if there were any disagreements, and was not surprised by who spoke up.
"I think the elf should stay here," Prince Albar said pointing at Neldra. "After this disaster, who knows what could happen in the dungeon. I would feel far safer if the highest level here remained with the rest of the group."
Neldra didn't even glance at him or give him a response beyond stepping closer to Elysara.
"Well, that's settled. We'll get moving. Good luck, professors," I said, and broke away from the impromptu huddle. that discussion had moved past being productive. Apparently, even a disaster couldn’t keep everybody civil long enough.
"Don't just ignore me," Prince spat.
Entirely ignoring him, I continued to move away and towards where I knew the entrance to the 31st floor lay.
As soon as we were clear of the camp, I picked up to a run. The rest of the group joined me. I had Felin, Des, Charlotte, Fayeth, Neldra, and Elysara with me.
Candice had stayed behind talking to the others in our class and doing the best at damage control. I could see Marin and Machen doing much the same. The two of them were trying to calm their class by getting them to rebuild their tents.
"All right, is anyone else freaking out a little?" Charlotte asked as we had gotten away from everyone.
"Personally, I like Candice's idea. I’m going with the idea that the earthquake knocked out the equipment between the floors.” Fayeth said, sounding like she was trying to convince herself.
“That doesn't explain Des' ability having issues," Elysara pointed out. Her brows were pinched down in a look of concern.
Neldra echoed her, "I too think we have a greater problem. But I have very few theories about what is causing this latest development."
I was also at a loss. The dungeon was full of surprises, however this was a touch further than I had ever experienced.
Amongst our group, there was one oddity: Felin. I had never seen a cat girl look so scared before. At that moment, she looked positively terrified.
"Felin, do you know what's going on?" I asked.
She jerked to attention. "No, I don't think so."
Everyone in the group was giving her a weird look.
"It's probably nothing," she said a little too quickly as her ears pinned back.
"Well, if you have even an inkling, it would be a better place to start than the rest of us have," Neldra pushed her.
"If it's..." She paused. "Let's just get to the safe zone. And then we can talk," Felin said.
Everyone could tell that something was wrong with the Nekorian. But that wasn't what mattered right now. What mattered was getting to the safe zone.

Crimson was in a meeting between the lawyers on the advice of the president of the UG and the lawyer he'd given her. She had come to offer a settlement. One that was egregiously priced, in her opinion.
However, getting this all to go away was more important after being jerked around to several meetings with lawyers as well as the strange quakes that the UG had been detecting. She wanted to settle this so she could spend time with the class.
To be honest, she wanted to stick around Ken, especially with how worried Broken Blade had been and the news that several assassins had been contacted according to Ken’s Grandparents.
"Are you paying attention?" Her lawyer said, making her look away from her daydream.
"Huh? They accept?”
“No, you dolt," one of the SJF's lawyers said to her.
A little crackle of red lightning snaked out of her eyes. "This was beyond stupid. But we're not done yet?" She said, exasperated. "I was hoping this farce would be done soon. I'm paying you more than SJS even stood to lose with the bet.”
“That's not the point here. It's a matter of legality," the lawyer said, "it's not about money. That's not what the law is about."
She groaned and put her cheek in her hand. "No, it's about wasting my time, isn't it? Can we get this over with? Would you like more? Would you like a signed statement?" These were options she'd been coached on giving with probably less sarcasm.
"Well, listen here," the lawyer puffed himself up about to spill into a tirade.
While the SJS representatives worked himself up, Crimson’s CID started pinging one message after the other with a wild amount of urgency.
She glanced down at the device, tapping in, seeing that her connection to Ken had flickered. her CID was repeatedly pinging messages that his signal had been lost. She frowned. She had gotten the UG president to set her up to track Ken’s CID. She’d been willing to pay his price if it meant she would have the information she needed if ever separated from Ken.
She frowned at the messages, which were quickly followed by messages to be coming from the United Guilds requesting her immediate assistance.
"I'm sorry, I have to take this," Crimson stood. Anything was better than a meeting with the lawyers.
"Sit back down," the SJS representative demanded.
Crimson raised an eyebrow at his tone. She was sick of this. "Yeah, you don't tell me what to do," Crimson said. "In fact, I think it would be a good idea to take the settlement. And we can just all get on with our lives."
He reeled back like he’d been slapped.
She gave him a smile that turned out to be more of a grimace as she looked at several more messages coming from the president of the UG. She almost couldn't believe her eyes.
"Excuse me, I do need to go," she said.
A guard from outside the door, because the SJS group insisted that there were guards every time they met with her, blocked her path.
Crimson gave him a mirthless chuckle and grabbed his skull with a hand, crushing it with a flick of her wrist.
"You can revive him," she said, tossing the corpse aside. "In fact, I think that's going to be a new thing. Every time I come here, you're going to have to revive him. And probably the SJS representative, and probably all of the lawyers, too, because I am just sick of these meetings."
Crimson stared down the room before she left. "If I have to come here again, I will start popping heads. And if you keep pushing this, I know a surefire way to get out of the lawsuit," she shrugged. "If there's no company to sue me, then this is all over."
She flashed them a smile and with a wave of her hand obliterated half of the building she was standing in.
"See?" She smiled. "You probably have a few more people to revive. Best get on that."
Crimson swaggered out of the building as a portal opened in front of her, feeling like she might have just solved her legal troubles.
She may have just created several troubles for the president of the UG and Headmistress Marlow, but she could handle them. These lawyers were driving her insane.
The content of the messages was of utmost importance. She stared down at her CID, hoping that the United Guilds had made a mistake. Otherwise, she was about to embark on a rampage through the dungeon.

It took us less than an hour to reach the location where the 30th-floor safe zone should have been. However, dwarves were pouring out of the entrance to the safe zone.
From what I had learned in our previous encounters, these seemed to be drones. I crouched down next to a sand dune with the rest of my party.
"Dwarves?" I asked. "Could they have broken through the 25th floor and come all the way down here?" I looked at the others for answers.
"I have no clue," Neldra said.
Felin's fidgeting had grown worse. Once we had spotted the dwarves, Felin shook her head vehemently, making her ears flop around. "No, it can't be," Felin insisted. "You should go up there and see if the dwarves have taken over." She pointed up at the safe zone.
Neldra glanced at the stairway, then back at the group. "I will be right back," she insisted. "All of you are to remain put." Her focus landed on Elysara. "Especially you. I will be back in less than a minute, and you will all still be alive." She said the statement with conviction. Then she launched herself from her hiding spot. Dwarves were cut in half as the elven sensor exploded up the stairs.
"Well, she did a really poor job of keeping us hidden," I said as many of the drones turned our direction, determining where Neldra had launched from.
I pulled out my weapons, and the rest of the group did as well.
The drones that I'd been scouting around started collapsing on our position.
"All right, these aren't monsters. Ely, take a durable melee build. You, Fayeth, and I will meet them up front with Des and Felin behind us, and Charlotte bringing up the rear." I made a quick plan of attack, then glanced down at the rabbit. "Bun Bun, if anyone gets close enough to hurt Charlotte, I want you on them."
The rabbit gave a quick salute. He would always prioritize Charlotte's safety. I knew I could trust him to stay on task.
I came over the ridge of the sand dune, but no further, so that I could stay in line of sight for Charlotte and Felin.
The dwarves rushed at us. Fayeth's glaive caught the first two before Elysara rushed one.
She had a pair of wolf ears and what I thought were bear paws as she muscled one of the dwarves and threw it down the sand dune.
The one that Fayeth still had its attention tried to stab the elf.
I stepped up behind it, my new knife working wonders to cut through the dwarven drone's thick skin. It wasn't exactly a listed stat, but stronger, higher-level weapons tended to cut through more easily.
The drone swung for my head, and I ducked under it, stabbing twice more in its abdomen before coming around the other side.
This time its back was to Fayeth, whose glaive cut a nasty wound from shoulder to hip, possibly knicking its spine as the dwarf's movements became incredibly sloppy, like one of its legs wasn't working.
A blast from Des hit it in the side of the head and the dwarf tumbled down the hill. I didn't think it would be getting back up.
But my focus was on the next half dozen dwarves that were reaching our sand dune to replace the one we had just eliminated.
I was glad I had saved my abilities for the larger group. The next dwarf that reached the top of the dune was hit with a [Triple Breach].
The second and third hits blew large chunks out of the dwarf's body, enough to stagger him down to one knee.
I slipped around his side, my knife carving a sanguine smile across his neck.
Charlotte threw a heal at me just before another dwarf reached me and landed a good fist to my chin.
I stumbled to the side.
Fayeth stunned that dwarf before he could get another hit on me. The petite elf suddenly had vines spilling out of the shield on her arm, wrapping around her shoulders and all the way down her torso to make an armored skirt.
This happened just in time for a few more dwarves to reach the top of the dune. She blocked one with a shield while she braced the back end of the glaive on the sand, fighting with it like a sword.
Elysara made a gesture with her hands, a large paw print exploding from her hand, causing them to slide back down the sand dune. Elysara put her fists up like she was ready for a boxing match, punching her hands out. Each punch made a smaller image of a paw that worked very well in pushing the dwarven drones back.
Thankfully, they were on loose sand footing, which provided no help in resisting Elysara's ability.
I was back on my feet, slipping a dagger into another of the dwarves and using [Earth Stomp] to stun those on Fayeth.
Waves of darkness came from Des, hitting the dwarves, as well as curses flying over my shoulders to the ones Elysara was keeping at bay.
More drones continued to pour out of the entrance to the 31st floor until they all stopped and slid in half just a moment before Neldra reappeared in front of us. The dwarves that had been there with us were killed.
"We need to go," Neldra's tone brooked no argument, and I turned and started running. The rest of the girls were in lock-step with me.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"That is not the 30th floor safe zone we came from," she said. "If I understand the dwarves correctly, what I saw was likely the hive of a dwarven queen."
Neldra dropped an absolute bomb on our group. Not only myself, but the ladies all had a haunted look in their eyes. I knew I likely had one myself.
"How?" Des asked.
"It didn't look like a recent addition," Neldra said. "I have no clue. I've never heard of or seen anything like this before."
The only one in our group that didn't have a look of horror was Felin.
Felin had a look of sudden clarity.

2024-09-25 05:40:21 +0000 UTCThere is no war in Ba Sing Se. Otherwise Crimson would have won it. Also, Crimson and Ken are literally the two most important people on Earth.

2024-09-24 01:12:17 +0000 UTCIt enables him to train his stats. Oops. But yeah I'm more annoyed by how his abilities have been forgotten.

2024-09-24 01:06:06 +0000 UTCEyes of wisdom? He is a magical assassin that can explode people with low mana and dwarves fall into that category. Dude can turn swarms of them into walking bombs. But yeah nah he gotta dagger them. Not swords. He forgot he used swords.

2024-09-24 01:00:30 +0000 UTCI absolutely forgot he had Absorb and remember how many times Crimson was using EoW in the first books yet he hasn't used it once is crazy

2024-09-24 00:51:01 +0000 UTCOohhh if anything and I hope he doesn’t go the easy route but it could even be something along the lines of him trying to rely on his own skills and not using EOW until he really needs it so it didn’t become a crutch for him. But again. I could be reaching on that one but idk.

2024-09-23 23:39:56 +0000 UTC🙂. That would be great. I loved the “ Void walks into a bar” scene with Velody and Obsidian. Brutal yet tasteful!

2024-09-23 23:03:45 +0000 UTCLove the world of SSV. A shame really that its so short and the mc basically unstoppable from the start. It's the only series by bruce that i don't just want more of but a rewrite: one or two prequel books where he is becoming a proper villain and then ten or so books where he meets the girls and does more "villain of the week" type stories. Y'know? Like in comic books: reoccuring villains to slowly save, and the grand conspiracy in the background. ^^ A man can dream, right?
Lukas
2024-09-23 22:43:01 +0000 UTCI second that. At some point bruce will ether upgrade LS to make it equal to LB or the characters will find a way to make it viable by working together.

2024-09-23 22:31:35 +0000 UTCI think this thread captured it well; Ken is not using his powers well at all. BTW, SSV is great (although last book not so much) and DJ is my favorite series from Bruce (have read read many times). Mage’s cultivation is also highly recommended.

2024-09-23 22:04:02 +0000 UTCTotally understand and agree. I’ve been following this series since book 1. It was my introduction to Bruce as an author. I don’t want the series to end. Just pointing out the reality that he is more Louis L’amour than Tolkien. Your recommendation may be just what I need to finally pull SSV off my to-read list and actually give it a read!

2024-09-23 21:36:42 +0000 UTCEven if Ken’s ability was as good as some people think there is still one major factor that ground him to a halt in an otherwise perfect setting. His appetite (aka his stamina) brought him to a halt during previous fights. It didn’t stop in his tracks except the once. But it’s still one more thing that limits LSpeeds usability. Frankly, I agree that Crimson is stronger when only comparing dungeon-given abilities. And that’s why I get so ticked off that Ken isn’t working at growing his other abilities. Trelican AND Demon Lord are immensely powerful classes that are too oft forgotten in the heat of battle. He should have a heart to heart with Des’ mom to see what it’s like having a fully controlled demon because it might not be so bad for sir snu snu. Maybe Ken could talk him into a full merge. Maybe he gets more benefits for getting demon lord to willingly submit as opposed to overpowering them. Trelican class has been mostly forgotten about and only occasionally thought about the exchange of skills. Then he uses them a token time in the book to remind us that he has the class. Between Trelican and his secondary class he might be able to stand toe to toe with crimson. MIGHT. He would have to really work on building all of his stats outside of his level. So that by the time they were equal level he could match her limit break. I did hear one reasonable suggestion by Lukas that Limit Break seemed to evolve a bit so maybe Ken could have LSpeed evolve where he could bank a portion of his stacks.

2024-09-23 21:27:46 +0000 UTCFirstly: thank you for the book recommendations, always apreciated. Secondly: i love this series and hope it goes on for another ten books or so. My favorite is still SSV but miles got too powerful too fast, ken on the other hand is slower in his groth but that means more books until he becomes too powerful to be protagonist ^^ It's frustrating to see ken have all these abilities and seemingly not using them properly, but that will make the moment when he gets his sh*t together, watches a few youtube tutorials and exploits his abilities properly all the more cathartic Thirdly: yeah... this is not tolkien, but to me, this is like comfort food. I very much am thankful for the speed and quantity. If anything i would love SSV newly written . Hilarious world, fun if basic power concepts and overall good vibes. There miles had only one ability and applied it amazingly. Ken is the opposite: many powers, but he hasn't figured them out yet. Also the world in SSV felt more coherent since all led back to: the superpowers sit on the x chromosom xD I want to see the ramifications of the world being different. How for instance impact classes normal people? Like: are low level druids who dont dive the dungeon used in farming? Is world hunger solved since there is magic now? Sorry... went on a tangent there ^^

2024-09-23 21:09:11 +0000 UTCI think her Eyes of Wisdom will be exactly what she needs for this. Hopefully, Ken still has the, too!

2024-09-23 20:41:28 +0000 UTCI think you have succinctly listed my frustrations for this series. Don’t get me wrong, there’s lots to love about it. But worldbuilding has been pretty one-dimensional. Each book has one major problem and ignores any other potential complications. And when there are complications they are there to isolate or maneuver characters during different parts of the story. Most stories require a certain amount of buy-in from its readers. This story requires a little more from this perspective. The more you read his stories though then you’ll get acclimated to the parts that are interesting. If those world details are really bothersome to you then you might find yourself considering more complete stories such as Azarinth Healer, Beneath the Dragon Eye Moons, or He Who Fights with Monsters. There was significant amounts of effort put into those stories in writing, editing, etc. Releases are slower for those books (~6 months per book) whereas stories like DD are putting a book out every month or two. In short, I guess I’m saying there’s a quantity-quality axis on which DD leans toward the quantity side.

2024-09-23 20:40:01 +0000 UTCAm I the only one curious to see how this book is going to play out for the better. I’m kinda thinking Bruce is pulling a fast one on us by having Ken and co be basically idiots and then this situation will somehow force them all to work together much better than the raid ever could

2024-09-23 20:08:09 +0000 UTCIn DD they don't have Int-Stats right? Imagine Bran from RD having Eyes of Wisdom. I bet he would exploit it well. And HE can buy Int-Stats to use it properly ^^ But it isn't just ken. They are at a college to learn how to use their classes and skills properly: i imagine a class on skill-synergies, how to chain your skills to the best effects, courses that teach proper strategies like: how to kite, how to properly scout, prepair an ambush and have bunbun lure them in I mean it's a college! Where are the highly specific courses for class-archetypes? Wasn't class o so important in the beginning. They wouldn't take an unknown class but then at the school all students sit through the same classes. No class-specific courses at all? Does a dps need the same training as a support or tank? No! Different playstyles!! Crimson as a teacher is the embodiment of "git good" Or become so powerful the boss is dead before phase-transition Haylon seems pretty heavy on practical self-study. I mean, a dungeon-college should never have any mortality rates to begin with. You go there so you don't die a stupid, avoidable death, right?
Lukas
2024-09-23 19:22:57 +0000 UTCGuess somewhere between the last year and this one Ken took a tumble from the Stupid Tree and hit every single branch on the way down. Maybe Liminal Speed saps smarts as it builds stacks
Az Reel
2024-09-23 18:57:17 +0000 UTCIs it just me or are they always just checking if everybody is ready, then run into the bossroom to wipe. Rinse and repeat? Ken never builds up stacks right before the fight, never askes Eyes of wisdom for weaknesses/weakpoints or the best pathing to get to where he needs to be, when the dwarves attacked he use EoW to see who needs help , this sounds useful here as well ( candice NEEDS that ability. Think of how she could direct the fighting!) Oh and buffs! They have buff-skills right? Where is the optimized buff-routine before every fight so they can have the best start possible. Same goes for the elemental summoner: she was made out to be one of the most promising students in the beginning: summon a lot in the beginning and maybe use them to kite the mods around, divert aggro and give ken additional targets for stack-buildup. And kens class (treliquin rymes with harem king ^^ ) Absorb should be sooo OP according to the elves. Previously he could use it to absorb devastating boss-attacks. Or mana-burn? Maybe use it every so often inbetween stabbings, or use it with shadow arm at a distance. We never really see the cycling of minor skills as chains. That seems like something everyone should naturally learn to make the best of ones abilities by considering their cooldowns. Ken: sprint to get to target, dodge, stab, mana-burn, stab, stab, shadow-ambush, stab, stab, shadow-blades,stab,stab, absorb( can most likely be used to sapp enemies of their energy even when they are not using it as an attack), discharge, stab, stab,.... Think like a speedrunner! You know the phases of the fight, you know your abilities Heck! Ken could ask eyes of wisdom for the perfect, cooldown optimized sequenz for himself AND everyone else! Even without LSpeed EoW is potentially a how-to-guide for every fight! That alone should make him op as f
Lukas
2024-09-23 18:46:43 +0000 UTCThe elemental is just durable, since its resistent to non-magical attacks, will never pose a threat, since it is controlled and always avaliable as long as you have the summoner around. It is a punching-bag on demand that he can build stacks on, safely AND quickly. Stab it for 5 min like with the dps-test and start the raid like that. If there is a phase when ken has to wait and the stacks fall off, he can just have a summon conjured and stab it every 10 sec to keep the stacks or even use that time to gain more during that downtime And compaired to limit break liminal speed is lacking. Maybe those dungeon-trial skills can evolve with use? Maybe crimson started out similarily, were LB would only scale with her heartbeat in the beginning, but now it just goes off even without that and is instant? Just imagine LSpeed effecting kens cooldowns later on or that he can save up stacks for later/ instant use. Then I would say he could equal crimson in the future ^^
Lukas
2024-09-23 18:01:29 +0000 UTCWhy do that when you can leave one monster alive and have Ken solo it until thr next group. He will just need to learn the slowest time interval between attacks, or they let him continue to build stacks and at a certain point he will be moving and attacking so fast he will be soloing everything. 2024-09-23 17:47:51 +0000 UTCNot that hard to do. Keep one monster alive between groups, and have Ken solo it, which will have him build up stacks so he can all out from thr start of thr boss fight. It's not that hard to abuse thr system. And because there doesn't seem to be a different speed of mana generation between OOC or IC

2024-09-23 17:36:40 +0000 UTCYeah. I like that it's not just Ken and Co pulling off hijinks, but there own actions that pull them down. Honestly the rest of SJS should cut Prince Albar down.

2024-09-23 16:25:58 +0000 UTCYa, was wondering the same, but didn’t that portal work off of coordinates within the dungeon? Maybe that has something to do with it. The coordinates are no longer valid kind of thing. Now we just need Crimson to go on a rampage with eyes of wisdom to find people.

2024-09-23 15:45:36 +0000 UTC@Rainer: You haven't explained at all how Ken's ability will allow him to match/surpass Crimson, apart from mentioning some hypothetical scenario where Ken gets and keeps a massive amount of stacks, which he had immense difficulty doing even against these level 32 bosses. Stronger bosses and mobs could have all sorts of abilities to trip up Liminal Speed. In a 1v1 Crimson could simply refuse to stand still and let him build up stacks on her, activate Limit Break and curbstomp him. Dismissing Limit Break as a "flat" buff is doing it a massive disservice. The boost is huge, and what's more, Limit Break let's her defeat more powerful enemies, so she gets more XP and more level and stat gain. And these increased stats she gets from leveling/stat training with Limit Break will in turn make Limit Break more effective and so on a continuous cycle. The proof is right here in the story. After getting Limit Break, Crimson was able to tear through the dungeon solo and rise to the top of humanity quickly in a few years. Ken struggles with everything because an agility boost that needs to be actively maintained with constant attacks is not all that amazing. Ken's ability having no upper limit to its speed doesn't matter. It can only be achieved in some hypothetical or practice scenario, like when Crimson let him build up as many stacks as he wanted against her. He has difficulty maintaining it against all manner of opponents, there are numerous counters, and since it only boosts one stat, he's still helpless against anything more than a couple of levels higher than him, which Crimson, with her "flat" boost would not be.

2024-09-23 14:45:26 +0000 UTCEyes of Wisdom could get them back to earth easy enough as long as they don't have to dive too deep.
Jacob
2024-09-23 14:41:14 +0000 UTCI disagree that Ken will never be as powerful. His ability is an infinite stack, hers is a 1-time flat boost. Sure, on the surface, it looks better, but without a cap to his stacks, as long as he can hang on long enough, he can surpass her. If he got a lifesteal on hit ability, that would increase his survivability exponentially.
Rainer
2024-09-23 14:31:54 +0000 UTCAnd Lynderyn, his soloing of the boss at his own level in the smaller raid. Last I checked, these bosses aren't much higher than him in level. If they even are higher level at all.

2024-09-23 14:27:37 +0000 UTCAgree with Lyndern and ArbabSB. As written in this book so far, Ken will never be as powerful as Crimson. Folks have talked about PA’s plot armor, I think the same is happening to Ken. Anyway, still hopeful Bruce has some ideas in mind for Ken to develop his abilities to match Crimson. We’re on book 7 now, and this is Bruce’s second longest series. At this point in DJ, Zach was getting ready to take on Hell. Don’t think Ken is quite ready for that.
Mistweaver
2024-09-23 14:27:37 +0000 UTCHe doesn't have a worse ability than Crimson. As soon as he has as many levels as she does, because he eventually will if she doesn't get past her soft XP road block, his ability will be far more powerful. He will be able to at least survive her gaining a flat power boost. He may struggle to keep up at first, but he will eventually surpass her and go well beyond what she can accomplish with a 1-time, flat boost, even if it's a constant boost. Her ability will never increase. As long as there is no hard cap to his ability, like a max of 30 stacks, stacking abilities will always be better than a flat boost.
Rainer
2024-09-23 14:24:11 +0000 UTCIt would explain a few things if the Kitties to their original homeworld. But you need a large enough population group that was in the Dungeon at the time of the shift, in order to prevent inbreeding. I think the reason this is so extra terrifying to Feln is that she might well have lost access to the rest of her tribe as well now. She might not meet another Nekorian for years. Or at least fear the possibility #ComfortCream4Felin

2024-09-23 14:11:34 +0000 UTCThe author has also killed its efficacy completely in this new book. Last book he solo-killed 2 of the ‘troublesome’ beetles, then talked a bit, then solo-killed a level 50ish head instructor. He was also able to build up enough stacks fighting dwarves to cover an entire building with assists. Now, the ability is worthless because the author needs it to be.

2024-09-23 13:20:28 +0000 UTCYou do remember ken is still learning that, along with mastering the emperor class and it's skills, plus conquering the demon inside of him to conquer that class. 2024-09-23 13:17:10 +0000 UTCThis was cathartic. I want to see all of SJS collapse under their own corruption. Their meddling will make this emergency situation so much worse. They've prevented the students from having an additional high rank adventure with them, disrupted supply lines for critical items, probably broke some laws by attempting to stop Crimson from answering emergency messages, not to mention human trafficking and slavery that's bound to be revealed when people stumble into their safe zones.

But with him and the others, she has to worry how things will blow back onto them. Remember, before this, Crimson was alone. Now she has lovers, friends(Neldra and Harem Queen now that that rivalry has calmed) and even family in Ken's grandparents. She has a place she belongs and doesn't want to risk it

Even Director Amato knows how to easily kill the Dwarves. Their fights with them shouldn’t be this hard. Ken is an assassin trained fighter. He should be focusing on the easiest ways to kill his target.
Jeremy Daniels
2024-09-23 12:39:53 +0000 UTCOh for fuck's sake, I specifically mentioned a scenario where their levels are equalized and everyone ignored it. As I said Ken will still be weaker than Crimson when he reaches her level. Him outspeeding her is reliant on her standing still and letting him hit her enough times to get the needed stacks. Crimson can just activate Limit Break and overpower him from the get go. Limit Break is also better for training, look how she massacred Naga higher level than her because all her stats, not just Agility, are boosted and so she quickly gains levels and stats. Ken's attacks will just bounce off of enemies significantly higher level than him. Npt to mention all the other counters we are seeing in the raid. If you start Crimson and Ken at the same level, Crimson will soon pull ahead of Ken because Limit Break lets her fight stronger enemies than Ken, and so she will consistently be able to defeat higher level enemies for XP and stats.
ArbabSB
2024-09-23 12:36:59 +0000 UTCAs was stated before, it's because of his low level. If he's able to stand toe to toe with Crimson, even being able to go faster than her at his current level, albeit with some build up time to make up for the level disparity, then he will eventually be able to surpass even her. Her ability is a static increase, his is exponential.
Rainer
2024-09-23 11:41:33 +0000 UTCOh! That's a really good point! I never considered that the Nekorians may have lost there home world due to a dungeon shift. Joshua
2024-09-23 11:09:24 +0000 UTCThe problem is that he has to last long enough to make Liminal Speed worthwhile. He can get taken out before then. Limit Break works right away and affects much more than just Agility. The dungeon given abilities are supposed to be godlike. Crimson’s is that of a greater god, and Ken’s is like that of a Demi-god.

2024-09-23 10:47:34 +0000 UTCThat's my theory. But there are hundreds of passages already. And the father down they go, there are exponentially more. 2024-09-23 10:34:41 +0000 UTCThat is the only explanation that makes sense for the portals on Earth not being usable. However, I don't know how that will be explained actually. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense that the dungeon being shifted around somehow would cause the ability to reset other than the dungeon locations. The Earth locations being moved is definitely going to have to be explained well.
Reed Alexander
2024-09-23 10:30:45 +0000 UTCOf course he is. She is still literally twice his level. Ken isn't considered high level yet, and Crimson is literally the highest level human. His ability being able to ramp up infinitely gives him a solid advantage against a lot of people his level, but it will still be a few years before he is seriously on par with or even close to Crimson.
Reed Alexander
2024-09-23 10:27:50 +0000 UTCDungeon Shift? This means that they will likely have to fight their way down before they can come up, to find a working crossing to the human or elven branches Crimson losing her patience is very much appreciated, she had been passive and submissive for too long. Az Reel
2024-09-23 10:22:35 +0000 UTCLiminal Speed is too much of a conditional gimmick, reliant on building up and maintaining lots of stacks and only buffing one stat: Agility. It will never be anywhere as good as Limit Break's all-round boost that can be activated at will and allows Crimson to solo groups of enemies beyond her level. And that's reflected in Liminal Speed's mediocre performance in the text. The weird part is how people in-universe claim it will let Ken match Crimson one day, when we can see that is clearly not the case. Even if Ken gets to Crimson's level, he'll never be as strong as her.
ArbabSB
2024-09-23 10:21:49 +0000 UTCPlausible.

2024-09-23 10:19:16 +0000 UTCI think that "one" in this sentence was maybe meant to be plural: "But my focus was on the next half dozen dwarves that were reaching our sand dune to replace the one we had just eliminated."

2024-09-23 10:16:11 +0000 UTCThis sentence doesn't make much sense: "The one that Fayeth still had its attention tried to stab the elf."
Lycaon
2024-09-23 10:13:44 +0000 UTCSo Crimson can destroy half a building with a wave of her hand. Ken is struggling to kill simple bosses in the raid, while Crimson clears whole levels by herself. Ken is supposed to be her adventuring partner at some point, but he seems so much weaker than her. And Liminal Speed takes so long to get going compared to her abilities. Hopefully, this will get resolved soon.

2024-09-23 10:05:03 +0000 UTCThe coordinates for Earth never changed. Earth is essentially anchored. Why would the coordinates change? Are you saying the portal is tied to the dungeon and if the dungeon were to disappear, all of their abilities would, likewise, disappear?
Rainer
2024-09-23 09:56:37 +0000 UTCPortals are most likely GPS Based if you will. They will attached to a specific set of coordinates in a location you choose. But if the geography of the whole Dungeon has changed, then those coordinates are useless. It can teleport you somewhere that doesn't exist any further, at least referring to Dungeon locational data. If Earth is now on a distant branch, then they don't have the GPS data correlation. No portals
BigJCSoto
2024-09-23 09:42:30 +0000 UTCAbout Kens stack-build-up: Felicity is an elemental summoner, right? She can summon an infinite amount of them , as long as she has mana ,order them to attack ken, so they are definitly treated as enemies which garantees stack-buildup, and have Ken use that to frontload a bunch of stacks, right? The elementals are inherently resistant to physical damage, which we learned in the tournament at the very beginnibg of the series. And she can surely summon weak elementals that can't actually harm ken. I mean: stacks build when he strikes weaker monsters as well right? What's your take on that?
Lukas
2024-09-23 09:39:10 +0000 UTCOK, so the dungeon shifted and they might be cut off from Earth and have to go deeper than they've ever been before to find their paths back to the elven and human home worlds. But there is a plot pproblem you'll have to explain. Why can't they connect back to either world through their portals? Those worlds haven't changed. They haven't shifted. It's not like the portal forms a path that goes through the entire dungeon, following a specified layout.
Rainer
2024-09-23 09:22:38 +0000 UTCI'm assuming a lateral shift. 30th floors swapping with other level 30 floors. If a level 35 swapped with a level 5, that'd be a fucked up situation. But, it's still not good because they may have lost their route back to earth. What I don't get is why their connection to earth through a portal was interrupted. Earth itself has had no change, so why don't their portals work?
Rainer
2024-09-23 09:17:27 +0000 UTCOk so while the stuff in the dungeon is interesting, the bullshit with Crimson at court is not. As others have said, why the fuck is the President of the UG and Marlow even making Crimson deal with SJS lawyers? How is pissing off the strongest human being considered wise? Honestly Crimson should have pasted those lawyers at the second hearing after realizing they were just dragging her away from actual important stuff. This is just a convenient albeit hamfisted way of seperating her plotwise from the rest of the main party to make Ken and co have a struggle in the dungeon in the upcoming chapters. But it feels out of character to have had Crimson even last this long before killing someone, especially when dealing with the absolute scum of humanity that is crooked lawyers.

2024-09-23 07:41:25 +0000 UTC@Bob Bryan: Crimson was explicitly memtioned to be above such things and being able to force her way through them, and her value among humanity has only increased greatly after the discovery of the Naga. No financial istitution should be able to force her to the table. In terms of both personal power and status among humanity she should be able to tell SJS to fuck off.
