DD 203 Ch 8

In the sand quarter of the raid, we were quickly confronted with elemental monsters. A large golem, made of square limestone blocks, thudded through the hallway. The monster had a stiff-legged walk that caused it to thump with each step. We heard it far before we saw it.

The raid party spread out and prepared for combat. Unlike bosses, we went in blind, unsure what to expect.

Myrtle went in swinging, along with the rest of the tanks. After a few seconds, we dove in.

My blades were fast, chipping small pieces of stone away from the golem. Though it was hard to maintain my form as each strike was jarring. My arms reverberated with a small amount of pain every time I hit it.

The fight seemed fairly simple at first. Before the golem shook and a small sandstorm rolled off of it, picking up the chips and the dust that had fallen off of it from the fight thus far, creating a whirlwind that slowly moved through the raid.

Everyone got out of the way. It was slow enough that there were no problems with the rest of the raid avoiding it.

Once we got the golem to half health, things changed. It shook, throwing out another tornado, the first one still active, but then the golem split in two, its blocks falling apart and reforming into two golems that were half the size of the first.

The tanks picked them up and grouped them together so that everyone could exercise any cleave ability they had.

I was continuing to work with [Liminal Speed] building up. As I tried to kill one of the golems, both of them shook and created what were now four tornadoes.

At this point, it was getting more complicated for the raid to avoid the sandstorms, the tornadoes.

They split finally a second time. This time there were four golems standing 8 feet apart. Two golems standing 8 feet tall. They were pulled together and this time the DPS switched and people started throwing out AoE attacks rather than single target or cleave abilities.

The golems went down and I looked throughout the raid. There were actually two people who needed to be revived.

I raised an eyebrow at Candice for what happened.

"They got caught by the tornadoes," she explained, "and they were unable to get out. It got a little hectic back here even with how slow the tornadoes were."

I winced. Most of these trash mobs had been proving to be practice for the boss, meaning we were most likely going to be dealing with these sort of tornadoes during the boss fight.

"Better to learn now," I said, as the raid picked back up and we continued through to fight more monsters.

There had actually been two types of monsters as we cleared to the first boss. One were the golems that we had just fought. And the second were whirling sandstorms that did not take melee damage or physical damage of any kind.

Only magic damage hurt it. Thankfully, I had [Dark Blades] that provided some damage, but it was significantly blunted. Poor Regan only had her arrows and piercing abilities. She ended up throwing her bow to the side and storming away after trying and failing to injure the whirlwinds.

We continued the raid, killing two more bosses.

The first was a two-monster boss, a golem and a sandstorm, that required us to kill them at the same time, only for them to split and us have to kill the splits at the same time as well. It required some coordination and damage, and we got it on our third attempt.

The next boss, and the monsters leading up to it, was a giant sand dune that continually spawned monsters. This boss was interesting because we could not damage the sand dune, but instead each of the monsters took health away from it when they spawned.

When we finally got rid of all of the sand, there was a large totem that we destroyed to defeat the boss. The totem itself used dark magic, pulsing and sending it out into the raid, dealing an extreme amount of damage, it was a final DPS check.

One that we passed with flying colors.

The third boss in this section was apparently one of the hardest in the raid, and rather than take it on, we left and finished one more boss in the main branch of the dungeon before we had to call it a day.

***

Our party was met with the familiar sight of the camping tents for all four schools. We had pulled up our camping on the 28th floor and moved it here to the 32nd. We wanted to be able to maximize our time inside the raid and the rest of the schools were doing the same.

Prince Albar was waiting outside the raid, a sneer on his face. "Did you all have fun wiping? Any of you ready to quit? I'd understand if it was too much for you." He sneered at me, clearly trying to chip away at my group's confidence. "I hear every time you die you lose a little piece of your soul."

"Shut up," I told him, not one for bullies. We had a bet, one that if I lost, I would lose Crimson.

Prince Albar was certainly not above trying to do emotional damage to my raid in order to get a leg up. Really, I didn't think he was above any sort of foul play. The prince was just the kind of man that didn't care for a fair fight if it meant he could win.

Elysara gave him a rather sinister smile from behind me. "I'm glad you're still able to pick a fight. It would have been a shame after the business deals fell through that you lost some of your ferocity."

He glared at the princess behind me. "I knew it was you."

Elysara smirked, "Then you shouldn't have sent someone to fucking kill me." She turned her nose away and pulled me away from the prince.

I glanced at her. "Have you already started shifting business?" I asked.

"Of course. So, then comes a complication. Because some of these contracts require we go through human courts, others elven courts. As for the elven courts, it's quite simple. The human courts seem to have a large bias towards him." She made a face. "Either way, the business has stopped or been rerouted through Silver Fangs, bleeding them. All he can do is seek damages.”

“Leave it to our princess to slaughter the financial group." Des hugged Elysara from behind, giving her a kiss on the cheek and making the princess blush.

"It was nothing. He went after Ken. And I'm going to show him just how poor of a decision that was." Despite her earlier words, saying that she didn't want to be a leader, Elysara was fierce indeed.

I loved all of the women around me and the princess only proved just how much they loved me in return. The pain of the lawsuits and the potential conflict between humans and elves was not a small matter to take on to defend me. I felt warm in my heart, enjoying the hug that Des has started.

Another pair of arms wrapped around me. Harley's bell jingling. "Ooh, why are we hugging? I love hugs."

I rolled my eyes and peeled Harley off of me, her having ruined the moment.

She had done so with a smile on her face, and it was hard to be mad at the pink-haired bard.

"Nothing," I said.

"It's not nothing," Des countered. "Elysara is kicking the prince's butt. Woe to those who pick a fight with Ken."

"Damn right," Harley bounced on the balls of her feet and punched at the open air. "The empress, I'm sure, has quite the right hook. I've seen her pretend to be melee DPS, she does a good job."

Our raid party had all pulled away from the entrance and the Royal College didn't hesitate at all. Their raid party, pushing in the second we had left.

I turned to address the raid. "Alright everyone, we have three days." I looked at them. “There were some questions as if we could split the raid with one of the other groups. However,” I shook my head “After experiencing it the first time myself. I doubted any of the other groups would split the raid with us.”

The bosses would respawn at midnight every night. Which meant that any group would want free reign of the raid to move through and clear it however they wished. I'm sure we wouldn't be the only group clearing it in such a haphazard order.

"So we have three days off?" Helen raised her hand.

"Three days off," I repeated. "Though we should continue some training and use this section of the dungeon to grind. But you're welcome to split up into your parties and dive or spend some time in the safe zones to recover. I know after those wipes and everything, people will probably want a little downtime."

There were many nodding heads in the raid. Sometimes after dying in the raid groups, what you needed was to reaffirm why you were doing this. And for many, that was spending the money that we earned. Spending time with family. Or reconnecting with their party.

I knew for myself, I was at least going to use one day to take Elysara out on a date. She had made a comment after seeing Charlotte get a date that she wanted one too.

Des practically dragged me back to the tent.

***

I knew the group is tired when, after a long day in the raid, we came back and went straight to sleep.

Even Desmonda doesn't keep us up with bedtime shenanigans.

So, I was curious about who woke up before me, when my nose wiggled, and I smelled pancakes cooking in our tent. Extracting myself from the limbs, I didn't check who was in the bed and who wasn't.

Padding out of the partition in the tent, I found Crimson cooking stack after stack of pancakes. My teacher was wearing a frilly apron, and I had to squint to see that she was wearing workout clothes underneath rather than her normal outfit. The apron hid her top almost perfectly.

"And where have you been?" I asked her pointedly. The high-level adventurer had been gone for her first round in the raid, and I found that slightly suspicious. She would have normally reveled in pushing us harder.

"Things," Crimson said, dodging the question. "Pancakes?" She plopped them down on the table while she continued to use Fayeth's pop-up kitchen.

"Oh no, you don't get off that easily," I said, pulling the plate closer and dousing the pancakes in syrup as they were meant to be eaten. "What's that supposed to mean?"

Crimson continued to play innocent. “Nothing.”

I raised an eyebrow at her. Crimson normally bowled straight through any issue that rose up in her path. To see her dodging questions was out of character, to say the least.

"Oh, now you're only making me more curious," I said.

Crimson shrugged. "Sometimes, a girl has to have an air of mystery."

I chuckled at that. An air of mystery wasn't normally how I would describe Crimson. But I let her get away with it this time. If she didn’t want to tell me, I wasn’t going to force it.

Instead, I ate in silence letting it do the work.

"There's something happening in the dungeon," Crimson blurted out after a moment of silence. "The UG was having me check it out. As I expected, there was nothing for me to actually find." She shrugged helplessly. "It's not like the dungeon would open up to me and say, 'Ta-da! Here's the answer that you were seeking.'" She grumbled and continued to flip pancakes.

"Well, did you find anything interesting?" I asked.

"Oh, definitely something. But nothing that I think was the cause of the UGs' concern. In several branches of the dungeon, they had large seismic activity." She explained.

"The UG is suddenly worried that the dungeon is going to erupt?" I asked. The only thing that seismic activity said to me was volcanoes, and I really hoped the dungeon wasn't about to erupt.

"Let's hope not," Crimson said shortly. "Until we figure out what it actually is, though, I'm on one task to figure out what is happening. Which right now means running about the dungeon like a chicken with my head cut off." She grumbled. "I swear, these guys have no idea how important I actually am."

She waved a spatula around, painting an interesting picture of ‘important’ as she was currently cooking me and the rest of my ladies pancakes.

I'm sure many would argue that was not the best use of Crimson's talent, but they wouldn't find the argument from me.

Crimson was a fantastic chef, even though her culinary expertise leaned towards efficiency.

"Well, they send you on another errand, you get to hang out with us." I tried to give her a better option.

Crimson looked away, and that's when I knew she wasn't going to be sticking around as much as I'd hoped.

I grimaced. "How often are they going to be sending you out?" I asked.

"Well, you know, constantly." She deadpanned. "Right now they have me running errands because of my portal ability. I'm able to get around and get back to things far more quickly. None of this stuff is sending signals through the dungeon. Mostly it's me running equipment and setting it up in the dungeon so they can get more test results for things that I can't begin to pronounce. Then I have to run down, download the stuff and bring the files back. They pay me damned well and frankly I don’t have much to do with you stuck in the raid."

I felt like there was more to it, but seeing Crimson be dodgy for the first time made me not want to press, and instead let her tell me when she was ready.

"Good news, we defeated five bosses on our first trip." I changed the subject.

"Only five?" She asked, a slight upturn of her lip telling me what she really thought about that.

"Only five?" I shot back. "We worked hard for those five."

"I'm sure you did." Crimson made another stack of pancakes for herself. Her own application of syrup, just as copious as mine.

"I think we did just fine." I was only a little bitter at her downplaying what little success we'd had.

"Sorry, did I hurt your feelings?" Crimson said, with a mocking tone.

"In fact, you did," I told her, and she had the gall to look properly chastised at that.

"Look, I expected you guys to tear through that raid once you guys get settled." She took off the apron and sat down next to me, digging into her own pancakes. "The thing about raids is that no one does them right at first. Everyone has their own ideas of how things work, but once you get in the habit of defeating a boss, it becomes like riding a bicycle, and your raid party will start clearing them all very quickly, and you'll make quick work of the raids." She shrugged, "It's really just a matter of time before all of you have it cleared."

"It took so long for us to do five," I admitted. "The real problem is the healers."

"It's always the healers," Crimson said. "The prissy lot would ask all of us to dance on eggshells if it would keep them from dying."

I raised an eyebrow at her tone.

"Don't look at me like I'm wrong. We both know I'm right. Let me guess. The healers were disorganized, overhealing themselves every time they took damage, and running straight into monsters' jaws." Punctuating those words by snapping down on some pancakes. She didn't pull her punches.

"You just about got it," I chuckled, thinking of what the healers would think of her phrasing.

"It's always like that, but on the good news, it does get better," Crimson said. "They're going to realize that they will die most fights, and they'll go into it with a new, grimmer determination. It just takes time. If you are hoping that I could solve this one for you with a few simple tips, well, I'll just say that I wish I could, too."

She seemed not only to be talking about the raid, but likely what else had been bothering her.

“What did you do when healers were a problem. At some point you were diving with parties.” I asked.

Crimson smirked. “Strangled them and then revived them. Reminded them that damage dealers are in charge. Kill things and look good doing it. Like I said, it's just going to take time. You guys will have this down by the end of the month, though. I'd be shocked if it takes for the rest of the semester for my Haylon class to do it."

I realized at the same time that Crimson was setting some unrealistic expectations for us once again. Not that I minded. I, too, wanted to complete this raid.

"Alright, if you're not going to tell me what's actually bothering you," I said, "then you can tell me what we're going to do, what you have planned for the class during this break."

Crimson grinned like a loon. "Just that, I'm going to give you guys an actual break."

I gasped in mock horror. "No! Are you okay, Crimson? Are you dying?" I teased her and put a hand to her forehead.

She rolled her eyes. "Not dying. Not yet, at least. You guys need a break just as much as I do. Raids are tough on everyone. So instead of pushing you guys further, and, let's be honest, breaking most of your minds. I'm going to let you guys take the days off. Besides, I’ll be busy running about for the UG, most of it anyways."

Feeling that she was a little down, I nudged her in the side. "Make sure that you're not too busy. Make sure you set aside enough to go on a date with me."

Crimson perked up and glanced at me in surprise. "A date?" She asked excitedly.

"A date," I confirmed. "You know, the thing where usually the guy takes the girl out."

Crimson squealed in a very un-Crimson-like manner and gave me a side hug as red sparks danced out of her eyes and she nearly crushed me. "I haven't been on a date in forever," she said excitedly.

I squinted at her, trying to guess what kind of date I should take Crimson on.

Honestly, she would love it as long as we did anything that avoided her being Mistress Crimson and let her be a normal person. I'd have to think about how to hide her identity as we went anywhere. She was incredibly recognizable. However, at the moment I was looking at her in her workout outfit instead of her signature red leather bodysuit and I realized that that might be a wonderful way to get her out incognito.

No one would expect it was Crimson if she wore a dress.

"What are you looking at?" Crimson squinted at me.

"Oh nothing, just making plans." I smirked right back at her, enjoying keeping the secret of what we would do for the date in slight petty revenge for her keeping whatever secret she had from me. I wasn't going to pry, but I wasn't above petty revenge.

Comments

Thx for the chapter

Kconraw

Yeah, I'm surprised that the Elves aren't sending assassins themselves after that. They may not be able to get away with wiping out the prince, but they could make it so that no one will work for him because anyone that does mysteriously dies.

Lycaon

I think it would be interesting seeing Crimson in a dress.

Tim Nielsen

Everyone needs a break!

Mick

Immunity mechanics in the raid would be a reasonable way to force stacks to drop. It's a relatively common mechanic to have to set up a boss in some way before it takes damage, just have the set up require more than 10 seconds.

Brad S

In the interest of being constructive with my criticism, might I make a couple suggestions: 1. Don't artificially reduce the established strengths of Ken's Liminal Speed. Instead, highlight the established weaknesses in a way they can be shored up later. The three things that immediately come to mind are i) ken's stats, stamina in particular, has been shown to be lacking for the stress the skill can put on Ken at high stacks. Crimson is a caloric black hole, and she has solid stamina, but Ken needs to refuel more, and more often, and repeated peaks against the tough dungeon mobs could potentially strain his body dangerously, forcing him to use Liminal Space to dump stacks and keep his stacks below a safe threshold. This will naturally be shored up as Ken's stamina grows. ii) Ken rapidly loses stacks if he doesn't attack something within 10 seconds. Abuse this with dungeon mechanics to force him to drop stacks, such as spreading out mobs and leashing them so they are difficult to bait and chain. This wouldn't be my recommended go-to, but it could make a boss or 2 that removes mobs and becomes intangible with phase change to be a sticking point for the raid team. This is a situational weakness, and maybe specific damage types or additional multi-hit abilities Ken currently lacks could be used to shore up this weakness. iii) Any use of Liminal Space rapidly drops Liminal Speed stacks. Give him reason to use it, whether to keep healers from being 1-shot, or to maximize short damage windows on tough adds. This will become less of an issue as healers learn to reposition / the raid team's coordination and damage output increases. 2) As for the bet, since it is established, give us a reason to care about the outcome. Give Ken, or more likely, the Silver Fangs, something important to use the money on. If the Silver Fangs wants to establish a guild hall in the Elven World, or build their own enclaves in the dungeon, or help the UG rebuild a safe zone that got hit by the dwarves, or shore up The Duvell's or the Reynards - whatever you choose, then we see a tangible benefit to winning the bet. It's not just pride, or the toothless threat of Crimson becoming the Prince's (aka. solving their problem for them as she slaughters him and destroys his company). This approach suddenly makes the Prince's life worth something, because he needs to be alive long enough for him to lose and Ken to collect. Simply destroying the company might be somewhat satisfying, but destroying it by winning the bet now has purpose. It gives Ken a reason to revive the prince when Neldra shows him is own headless body for threatening and insulting Ely. It also gives everyone time to slowly drive the prince up a wall while we wait for the bet to end.

Ben Cooper

I really enjoy your stuff Bruce, and DD is my favorite series of yours. But while I was excited for the raid, the fact that it only works by retconning the progress from the last 2 books makes it feel underwhelming. I am genuinely bored with the part of the series I was most excited for, plus the prince as an antagonist isn't interesting. It feels like there are so many artificial barriers in front of ken in this book that it's keeping us from interesting development, future floors, what's going on with the dwarves/catfolk. Like why is crimson suddenly content with him coasting? Why isn't she bringing him further into the dungeon to push him? The character's motivations being changed for the sake of the plot rather than the other way around makes it hard to relate to or feel anything for these characters.

[OMEN]

Its sad how the last book ended in such high note just to start this one and fumble around with all this encounters, with the difference in dps Ken had with the others he should be top dps by a long shot and so far it has felt like he isnt making any diference, having wow as a reference for most of stuff i thought his Liminal speed was supossed to be like the flash time since when he used it for the first time everything was moving way slower, now it feels like nothing, he should be able to keep up with the moving ads. I hope you all enjoy the Ace Attourney book ill wait until the release for this one.

SethRxz

While you do have a point that the raid is for 25 people what you forget is Ken is now an outlier because of his dungeon trial skill the exact same way that I'd expect Crimson to breeze through the raid if she was the same level as Ken that's the whole point of the Dungeon trial skills

Jose Paz III

I think it is important to recognize that the skill has numerous limitations even in longer fights. I agree that some of these boss fights should be a little easier for Ken. At the same time, these raid fights were always meant for 25 people. Even if one of those people is extraordinary doesn’t take away the fact that the raid is still designed to be difficult. I really like Crimsons comments this chapter about how winning the raids will be more about the whole group figuring out how to operate together after which they will essentially steamroll the entire raid. Or that’s how I read what she said/expects.

Clinton Walsh

Tbh that Neldra did NOTHING to Albar after he called Elysara a whore and *drew his fucking sword on her* broke my suspension of disbelief. Now an assassination attempt on the heir to the throne only merits trade embargoes that can be contested by human courts? Albar is a terrible antagonist that is being held up by some ridiculously obvious plot armor.

ArbabSB

I can live with the lawyer thing and Crimson being embarrassed more than anything, but the Elven issue is incomprehensible: "Elysara smirked, "Then you shouldn't have sent someone to fucking kill me."" That's an act of WAR. Not cancelling some contracts.

Dennis Erwin

To HIS people not tge humans. Does China give any Care about the US laws? Do you know how many thousands of US patents they have stolen? Only for later the US give up on trying to enforce them.

patrick ford

Honestly is this book a retcon book? What happened to the no one dares cross Crimson? That she could literally do whatever she wants and no one would get near her. Same with Ken can take on an army of drawrfs 2-3 levels above and only stopped because his blades couldn't keep up, but struggles to deal with dungeon monsters of similar levels. I get it Bruce screwed up giving him an OP skill that effectively negates any challenge the dungeon can give at his current level. So he needs to put other challenges for him to overcome. The problem is that he already faced down stronger opponents than prince fuck face. Pretty sure rescuing tge Elven nation coup Pretty sure if he wanted to is ask the king to send in some censors to wipe out this prince dungeon nation and tge Ug couldn't do shit, "what happens in the dungeon...." Does his grandparents even exist? But what can I expect from an idiot who ignored Crimson advice about getting blunt weapons to deal with things that are resistance to sharp edges. Lije say skeletons, bug carpeace, GOLEMS They need to introduce a side character that will slap some sense into him. Hell make prince dick that character. Have ken watch a video of how well the prince is handling the monsters better than ken. By using more brains and exploiting weaknesses.

patrick ford

Yea because having a whole clan of assassins at his disposal isn't a thing? Heck just send the old store lady trained in poison after them. Ken doesn't need to handle all the work himself

patrick ford

He has an ability that makes his stabs have dark properties so it's not pure physical damage also he has a penetration ability as well

Jose Paz III

Honestly all of this paints Ken in a horrible light, all tge hype about his ability is garbage in this book He literally faced an army the last couple books ago single handedly now he can't handle a raid? If anything they should be keeping 1 monster alive so he can keep tge stacks up between large groups. What's more is that Kwn is effectively being held back at this point, he has an extremely powerful ability ifhe can match and exceed crimson speed no monster on any of these floors can touch him he can solo bosses Now he is using blades against golem? Like WTF dude, talk about ignoring all the advice crimson and the UG gave him. His dps is literally suffering because he is to arrogant to change weapons

patrick ford

Even Kings have to keep the rest of the nobility happy. We already saw that power plays happen, including grabbing for the Throne. So - yes, the king does, to some extent, answer to the people

David Morrissey

In the US it certainly wouldn't be because of our policing system.

Josh

Well most of the raid bosses aren't conducive to stabbing when you think about it. I mean every opponent, including the dps check was able to stabbed rather effectively. But stabbing skeletons doesn't work very well, not even slashing damage normally. Then you have giant beetles. Hard carapaces that aren't that great for dps with swords/daggers. Then golems and sandstorm tornadoes are the same. The closest to being five with being stabbed in the crocodile but if you think about how tough their top skin normally is and how short his short swords are, it makes some sense. Especially when you're getting swarmed and it was mentioned that they had to run across the water and he loses his stacks when he doesn't attack at a rather fast rate. So him struggling on these bosses so far makes sense to me.

Casey

Yea because guilty until proven innocent is much better

patrick ford

Honestly this is where char needs to step up and become tge leader of tge healers and start to properly train them

patrick ford

You lost me at "slavery is good" 😬

Josh

I find it implausible that the elves would give a shit what human courts think. This happens in the real world too. For example, most US court judgements are unenforceable in the EU as they think the adversarial nature our courts aren't conducive to fairness and justice.

Josh

For some reason, the writing (even these rough drafts) on this book has been significantly messier than previous efforts. Gaps (forgetting Ely and the Nekorian in the first fight) and inconsistencies (Ely versus Ellie) have been unfortunate surprises. Given how much Liminal Speed was built up before, it seems hardly to have any impact now---which creates major cognitive dissonance and reader dissatisfaction. It would be better, if you have to nerf Ken's ability, that he be afflicted early on in the raid with some curse or something that explains WHY they are struggling so much when Ken should be able to solo ALL adds after 5 minutes versus a Raid Boss.

Dutch Palmer

Sorry but here at chapter 8 this book is depressing don't know how I feel about this book Ken's limital speed ability seems like garbage that even as weak as it is if they didn't have his class mates would be failing the raids which in turn this presents the class as weak and incompetent. Sorry not digging it and this prince Albert why is he alive between Ken's grandparents or Crimson he should be dead and only a afterthought. Still Ken's at the end of last book said they would rock through the raid and now they are struggling because as it reads his limital speed is nothing special and classmates can't do it without him. This chapter put me in a mood lol

Ash Goetz

Think I'll try to pick this back up with the next book but this whole arc has just become boring as watching paint dry. Bruce, long dungeon sequences are not your thing anymore. I dont know what happend between the Mana books and now to cause the decline but it's saddening.

William Wilson

What are your betting a new race is entering the series

Jared

There was two bets. One for the dps unrelated to PA.

Jared

Got it. Thanks

Mistweaver

Ken has to focus on the raids I think. They have 3 days off so I'm not sure if that means they will all run it again and ken doesn't have time to ho assassinate the lawyers. He needs to focus there. She should tell his grandparents though if they don't know.

Bob Bryan

The DPS contest bet was separate and for money and involved individuals from all the colleges betting on their favorites. The bet for completing the entire raid first is between Albar vs Ken wagering 20 billion ren and Crimson respectively.

ArbabSB

I guess I missed the part where the raid is now the bet. I thought it was the DPS contest. I agree that Liminal speed seems nerfed. Either that or Ken doesn’t want to carry the whole raid on his back. Although as I think about it, maybe Bruce is intentionally having Ken be indecisive and unsure of himself- he is a young guy after all.

Mistweaver

As Ken is basically the connection and reason for any expansion in trade, I'd imagine any trades done is being specific and sourced through them down to the UG. Couriers and delivery going both ways would be obvious as they have to go through safezones where they operate. That's just convenience for delivery. UG consolidating it with their typical routes makes sense, but then there's the producers of goods and that's where I imagine the SJS is squeezing them. But then, due to their connection, they can sidestep the UG and go through Ken's clan. The increase in cost would suck but for materials such as metal, quantity is the greater concern and sourcing that from earth is REALLY cheap and plentiful and even going third party the profits for the clan would still be ridiculous. If the UG wants in on that they have to honestly ask...do they miss out on some Golden Eggs or do something stupid like anger the Golden Goose? Playing it neutral is just better for the UG. SJS is just one contributor and as the UG is a merchant endeavour it's just stupid to risk ruining their name for uppity private parties trying to play politics with sentient nukes.

NovaZero

First, slavery is a good alternative for a community with superpuwered people, for prisons, wich are at some point to expensive to maintain. How will you keep someone like crimson contained, if she does not want to be? A slavecollar to someone like Ken would funktion for her well, and she coud continue to be used in the dungeon. As for the date, on one hnd forcing crimson to wear a dress is a fun way of revenge, but he also should do something nice for her. Maybe a magic sex shop, where they find a self removable slavecollar for her, with some other toys for him to use on her? The rest of the time, could be something that crimson enjoys.

Rotaugur

Na ken does not have the balls to kill a few of the healers as a warnig , that they have to get their shit together. Even if it is his role to play, he is to much of a wimp for that. I would say let the daughter of the harem queen , have enaugh of ther whining and kill a few of them, followed by forcing them to wear the cuffs , that Ken wore at the start of his training.

Rotaugur

Ely sushi.

NovaZero

Why do the elves not jut a new tax on the companie , that are on bad terms with them? I mean if you have to pay additionaly 30% before you enter the elven world and again when leave for the human worlds than that means the investors are going to look for other firms. did the chinese not do the same with the non chinese sailing ships in the past? Or the brits? Just use the excause, that silver fang and a select few others have special excemptions for the "mandatory " tax after perfoming a heroic deed for the crown or such bs.Throw the nobles under the buss and claim it was their idea and it iss out ofthe hand of the emporer. Just make it unprofitable and a paperwork nightmare, not to mention, if they are caught smuggeling , than thei have to pay jines, after losing an even bigger portion of their wares, followed by an official complaint delivered tothe UG and a blacklisting for the currier in question for time c, wich will force the company to always need new people with high levels. And smuggeling could be anything, from forgetting to list their underwear, to not mentioning jewelry worn or the lootdrops thei found in the dungeon on their way, that were not mentioned in the paperwork, that was send weeks prior, to be prossessed in advanced, where some items are missing or are to many found, wich needs a new set of paperwork that needs weeks to prosses, and hase to be aknowleged in both elven and human worlds.

Yeah I was just thinking while reading this chapter that it seems like Liminal Speed, and Ken as a result, has been nerfed quite a bit in these last few chapters.

Barry Pritchard

Doubt it. She's embarrassed, and the only gag order she'll respect is one that from a certain someone that can go deep down her throat.

NovaZero

I'd accept it if they said "we just weren't sure where to post death warrants. But when we asked for translators they sent lawyers and it got weird"

NovaZero

Nice chapter I’m looking forward to Crimson and Ely’s dates, it will be fun seeing both of them get to do what they and be themselves for a change

Liminal Speed is strong but the author is refusing to admit it's strong if they're struggling this much with this dinky raid then how was Ken supposed to do it without Liminal Speed also he should be getting ridiculous stacks since the raids aren't 3 minute encounters can we just stop pretending his dungeon given trial skill isn't good and just bull true through the rest of the raid

Jose Paz III

Doesn't sound like the lawyer meeting went well. At least that's what I think she's hiding.

Why are the Elves bothering with the courts? Them stopping to trade with SJS is the bare minimum after what is at the very least an international incident. But the attempted murder of one future head of state by another future head of state could also very well be construed as a declaration of war, so SJS should be happy that they're only bleeding money and not actual blood.

Darius Sanguna

Yeah... I mean who would allow slavery, because that's essentially what the Prince is asking for with Crimson. But yeah, both her comment of "only 5" and her hiding what the Prince is trying to do in the courts... Crimson should trust Ken more than that... Unless she's being forced to remain quiet?

Jamie R

Petty revenge is well deserved in this case. If Crimson won't tell him about the Prince being an arse and siccing lawyers on Crimson, a most abominable torture, he can have fun planning the date and making her wear a dress. I'd love to see what sort of dress he comes up with. As for her way of dealing with the healers, can't say I'm surprised... And if Ken doesn't snap and kill at least one during the raid for being petty... I expect Harley to do something like not refill their Mana as punishment. Either that or one of the other girls might smack some sense into the Healers. But yeah, that Skeleton Boss was nasty and slowed their raid team down. 5 boss was pretty good, but then Crimson comment... Ouch 😳

Jamie R

Well Ken seems to think in his internal monologue that he will genuinely lose Crimson if he loses this bet. Regardless of whether he's right or wrong, this is a really shitty thing to do to your boyfriend Crimson, no matter how much of a training enthusiast you are.
