RD 2 Ch 52-56 END

Chapter 52

Decision made

Comments

Alright so I know the MC get three golden blood lines. I know one comes from the bird in the first book, the last one comes from the end of this book. Where does he get the second one?

Brian Martinez

I agree. The big gap seems to skip alot of crucial info as to how the clan will function now that persephone will be moving tartarus back to the islands, unless it won't be happening for awhile that is. But if I'm not mistaken I believe the labyrinth was being powered by the bone that dropped the blood essence and it was all controlled by the anchor. So it's left for assumptions but I would guess he probably shortened the labyrinth to leave but then what happened to the anchor is unknown.

Jordan Abell

Yes that would have been epic if he could have stolen their strength stats with soul absorption arts or even their skill but I think he would have been too op then

Jordan Abell

Listening to RD audiobook. Have to say I'm loving the Nester voices specifically uncle Nester he sounds kind of like Christopher Walken. I came across where his soul is described as looking late 40s but in RD2 it's said he didn't age past his 30s. Seems a bit confusing.

Mavrox

Each to their own. I'm the opposite, RD doesn't really pull me in, whereas I'm loving DD and AO.

Martin Gill

Fuck, I hate AO. The first of his series that I've put down after two books

Josh

Days later I heard the Mini Minotaur Song. It killed me after the maze.

David

That seems close enough to me because it'd still heavily imply that he'd have a lot of experience and knowledge, so Circe should have figured he would too.

hawkshe .

Go back and reread he didn't elaborate beyond that his soul came back in time and humanity lost, not a full confession of his experience and knowledge.

Wulfe

Another matter that is curious is that Nyx found Golden Bull Essence Blood because some bone crumbled. At the center of a fight that just ended seems strange. Everything melts back into the System. I recommend that it be that Bran got the blood for defeating the gravity demon or the general as part of the loot.

S

The last 4 paragraphs of chap 55 seemed to need to be reworked. The issue I find is that the gravity demon seems to have his back but he all the sudden turns around and gets through the helmet to the forehead to blow the head off. It makes it seem Bran can instant kill every fight with an inscription. It would sound more decisive if the head was cut off in a swipe when the gravity demon landed trying to tackle Bran from above.

S

Yeah and personally love just getting the whole series one after another or just alternate DD or RD. Not a huge fan of AO, I like the characters but I hate how unlike your other series the main characters of the other seem to be competent and driven, while Aard just wanders around and gets lucky with his magic. Aard seems like he has no drive other than to be the greatest without doing any work to get there.

John

Yeah this, he tells them he’s from the future and they just go “ok” with no other reaction and then they seem to forget about it and be amazed every time he does something.

John

For the gravity demon, I thought his inscription exploded an not that the demon went all suicide bomb on him. So a little more there would help.

JeffyThanadros

Idk, I like the three book rotation. It puts just enough time between releases that I want to re-read the previous books in the series coming up on the new book release. This is only the second book I've read as it's released on patreon. I try not to do it... it's more torturous reading one chapter at a time than just waiting till the ninth. So in thqt same way, I find the anticipation easier to put out of my mind when I know there's three more months for the next release in the series. Plus I also like AO and DD so it's not like I want to push their releases back. Everyone's got their on pov though.

Jon Burden

Tbh I'd be fine with skipping both DD and AO and moving straight to RD 3.

ArbabSB

It could be someone from the borrson clan told him about it in order to bring down the clan. Like a demon trying to sow chaos and discord. Or could be for mundane reasons like a jilted/rejected lover. Someone who wanted thorin but whom he never wanted in that way. They could've been the person that both ordered it and told him to kill off the competition.

Casey

At some point, can we get more background on the leveling system and stats? Seems like all the characters have a unique class and bloodline, which seems odd. Also, can someone please explain how stats work? Does strength progress linearly, exponentially or what? Some characters have a 5 digit strength score, so what does that mean relative to “normal” humans? Are they stronger than Superman?

Mistweaver

Totally not clear that she self-destructed.

Dutch Palmer

Or, you start killing and figure it out from there. Thorin is very reasonable.

NovaZero

No chapters for 4 days?!! Nooooooò!

Joshua

i had been hoping he'd soul attack the minos

John

im sure its futile, but here's to hoping we get RD3 after DD instead of more AO

John

I think the intelligence stat depicts their magic ability rather than their mental capacity.

Adam

she used self destruction. all he did was focus the best up and away from himself. might need to be cleaned up some but still works.

cody mccain

Perfect stopping point, now the long painful wait. RD is my new favorite series

Val the mysterious Jedi

If I found out my father-in-law poisoned his daughter... If I heard any father poisoned their daughter my first question would be why... Maybe the true culprit tried rubbing it in his face and told him how. PS I really hope this mystery will be solved who, what, where, when, why, how... And for the love of all holy why was pers trying to protect whoever specially if in was Thorins old clan. PPS skip how we know it was poison by the greasy father. PPPS ps' are fun.

Mavrox

I agree with everything you just said 😂

Azazel

Guess he never realized who was truly behind it. Maybe he either guessed it was the Heros clan, or he found out about Elle's dad being the poisoner, and that's as far up the chain he looked. He's not the smartest guy.

ArbabSB

So why did Thorin take out the clan if it was his old clan that put out the hit Elle?

Mavrox

Besides that I enjoyed the book a lot the only thing that bothered me was early on in the Nix romance Bran was acting like he didn't know she liked him a guy that old and experienced with women wouldn't act like a typical anime protagonist

Ryan Whitney

Loved the book hard to wait till the tenth but I am curious to see what twists you have in store for Ken in dd203.

Mathew

Another banger of a book. Loved your writing before but you are clearly improving. Great work.

Evan EJ

No. He did a full confession to the leaders with nyx there as well I think right before he went into persephone's soul. While he was recovering from that berserker thing where he soaked up the blood from the island.

Casey

Also what would of happened if he used any spirit art on it I assume with a 1 spirit he would of been able to take control over the minotaurs at least but you never really addressed that

Ryan Whitney

Giving the golden minotaurs 1 int then saying there not dumb 2 paragraphs later seems wrong mabey say there actions where more instinct than intelligence

Ryan Whitney

This, both Nyx and Circe were with him when he told the elders at the clan HQ attack but later it was written like neither of them have heard it yet.

Bob

Or something like a short term switch to legs ability.

S

I think you need to just edit out the confession to the clan heads at the end of the fight with the demon general. A. It doesn't have the proper impact of that moment because so many other thing are going on B. Editing wise it feels like no one remembers it and it's easier to cut one scene then re-edit like 3 different moment where people ignore it

CrookedShepherd

I'll have to re-read, but didn't he only reveal the full secret to Persephone when he was repairing her soul, while still keeping it a secret from the rest of the leaders, that is why Persephone had to fight to get him permission to go to Tartarus?

Wulfe

Glad I’m not the only one. Though I’m sure to an extent the break from each series gives him time to map out the next book but honestly I got hooked on this story way easier than Ards Oath. Don’t get me wrong both are good but I like this story better. That and idk it could be my bias for something kinda new. Sure they have regression stories and modern time style plots out there but most don’t mesh well and RD is pulling it off much better so yeah it’s like scratching an itch you didn’t know you had.

Blnded

Really enjoyed it but the pacing does need a bit of work. Tons of chapters in the earlier instance and then boom a couple on the dungeon and afterwards. Needs like an epilogue to cover a bit of what happened after the fight with the clan members all free now. Also why would they be recruiting and bring members down to Tartarus when it’s so hard to get through and then they’d be stuck. Seems like Persephone is just taking clan members and locking them in a jail and throwing away the key.

John

Absolutely agree here.

Z

Why is Circe acting like she doesn't know Brans secret during these chapters, despite him already revealing it?

hawkshe .

Enjoyed the book overall. Nyx's romance was a slow burn but resolved nicely, plus she is absolutely adorable. My personall issues with it are minor. Persephone needs to be chewed out a bit more for using an artifact that turned out to be a hellgate without knowing it's true purpose. Elle's apology feels rushed and seems too little to make up for her shitty parenting and personality in this book. And I do feel sad we don't see as much of Gloria this time so I hope she gets a lot of loving in book 3!

KiwiHermit

I enjoyed this book, but think the pacing could be improved. Also, I’d like to see Bran’s final stats.

Adam

I agree there was a little downtime before the book ended last time and I think that the trend could continue.

zombies wolking

I like that we found out where he got the wandering king title from and that he found out that Tartarus didn't run or hide in his last life. I know that was a major concern that's been bugging him so it was nice to finally get an answer to that.

Casey

I don't think sanguine locking would work. I believe they had a sss skill called unstoppable. Could be wrong though.

Casey

If the clan isn’t united after this, they almost deserve to fall. Harsh, but they have a legitimate warning about what’s coming and proof of it.

David

Nope I could totally go for 6 or more straight months of this series 😂

Azazel

Bruce usually doesn't subscribe to plot armor. So why this BS?! *The gauntleted demon crashed into me, her body already swelling with mania painted across her face. “The demon lord deems your death worthy of my sacrifice.” There was a burning fire in her eyes like someone else was looking through them. I poked her in the forehead, plenty of blood on me as I traced a quick inscription. Rather than explode in every direction, most of the force went straight up as I was slammed to the stone roughly but certainly not something fatal. She was gone. The demon general was gone.* All it takes is a second of close contact? Sounds like Bruce ran out of time, which always seems like a cheat to readers.

Dutch Palmer

Loved the book, but I think a chapter reuniting with Gloria would have been nice, too.

John Duncan

Does it count as complaining if I’m disappointed that it’s over so fast? 🤣.

Blnded

So... His wife AND dad pounds him?

NovaZero

Really good. I enjoyed it. Kmg buddy. Hope you’re able to give nix her legs back. Give her the opportunity to transform

Jared

Bonus chapters for dragons justice! Sign me the hell up. Loved the book, but maybe take an extra week or two and flush out some more details? It was really good but alot of the events felt a bit rushed and some of the explanations for what was happening could use a little more flushing out. Over all though, another great book! Your killin it!

sgt_turtle

That’s a good point about the minotaurs. I think the golden bloodlines he has will go to the three servants

Iron Akela

Yeah the whole body swapping thing… I just don’t think it can have happened in the past. Feels… off. Especially in light of the lengths Elle went to to hide Bran

Iron Akela

I enjoyed the book. Is there going to be an epilogue? ends a bit abruptly and doesn't mention anything about freeing Persephone etc.

Scyfe

The minotaurs have a spirit stat of literally 1. So would Blood Bolt + Sanguine Locking work on them? It uses the difference between Bran's spirit stat and the target's. If the system is going to cheese with literally invulnerable monsters, Bran should cheese right back. Yeah curious to see what Bran got for killing the demon general. Also wondering what the Golden Minotaur Bloodline will be useful for.

ArbabSB

Thanks for the wealth of chapters. Very action-packed ending. Yeah, I have to agree with the others that Circe suddenly not knowing about Bran's past makes no sense. We read Bran telling the branch leaders, Circe included, basically everything, that he time travelled from 500 years in the future, that demons invaded Earth and won, and that he became one of the most powerful living humans. Circe shouldn't be ignorant of Bran's true circimstances and desperate to know what's up now. Wish we had gotten a look at what Bran gained from killing the demon general and the other demon. What level Bran is now, what was in that spatial ring the demon general dropped, whether there were any other items or skillbooks dropped, amd son. I'm sure Simone and Nyx gained stuff too. The invulnerable golden minotaurs combined with the demon general's summons were quite the frustrating challenge for our protagonists. I wonder if Blood Bolt + Sanguine Locking would have worked on the minotaurs? Their spirit stat is literally 1. Glad to see Bran improving his relationships with Elle and Persephone. Elle made a lot of sacrifices for Bran. Wish we'd seen a bit more of Persephone's reaction to being freed plus catching up the othet leaders of the Heros Clan on what heppened. The wrap up chapter feels a bit rushed. Hmmm.....the Borrson clan. Wonder why Thorin was exiled, if they poisoned his wife even after their son seemingly died. They really don't want him to have a kid. Really looking forward to the next book.

ArbabSB

I just realized something. This initiation of clan members may end up being the most powerful in clan history due to what happened in the instance and the attack by demons. I can see them being the most united, especially if Hercules and Zeus put their rivalry aside.

Daniel Glasson

He's used jokes that have come up in the comments before, the most obvious being T in Dragon's Justice and his whole barbershop running gag

Daniel Glasson

Not sure I see Persephone as the hugger type. She's been guarded for so long that even with him saving and freeing her, it'll take time for her to open, even for something like that. I do agree on the other points though

Daniel Glasson

Reason I say attempt is she'll be trying to get him away before Thorin decides to test his new physique

Daniel Glasson

Excellent

Michael Shuble

Yup. Easy, we get to the end I'm like... "Hey yo that last bit? Wha- that's - tell me more! You're gonna skip that? Noooooo!" Good chance to set us up for what you wanna do in next book or what you're gonna push off till then.

NovaZero

Yeah, especially since apparently the Shadow demon tried to take him out pointing out how he's now a target?

NovaZero

Loved the book as a whole. Great character growth and loved the development of relationships with his family (mom, dad, and Mimi) as well as his harem. Cannot wait to catch the next in this series when it comes back into rotation. Only critiques I would have would be along the lines of what others have already pointed out: 1. Maybe a little too much time spent in the initial Heros dungeon. 2. Would like to see Mimi’s response to finally being free and maybe a tearful hug with Bran. 3. A little more added to the conversation between Bran and Elle. Could make it a full on tear jerker I believe with another pass or 2. Thank you for another amazing book and for giving us all such delectable treats each evening/morning. Keep up the great work and I hope that you get some rest before fully tackling the next DD.

Christopher Gino

Only thing I've got is circe's quizzical looks she gives bran everytime he acts with his knowledge even though he did an info dump on the clan heads at the end of the first large scale fight. Just seems odd for her to constantly be acting like he is just some 18 year old after that

Austin Wolf

So just making sure I got this straight. The past life his mom survived the poison like pers said but choose to let him believe she dies to protect him from his dads clan basically abandoning him. But she still died when Tartarus was destroyed? That’s why his mom was saying sorry? So then his mom let herself be poisoned as well since bran says she had ways to counter the poison? And if that’s the case, she has the gall to be mad at Circe for her friends dying in an instance when everyone knows that is a real possibility and hazards of the job when they signed up for that branch?

Nozzy

I second this… well third this even!

Christopher Gino

I do agree with the ending chapter needing to be flushed out a little.

Christopher Gino

I agree with you but, I think there's just a few lines of text that make this vague and point to her not knowing while there are also some that do the opposite. Some examples, (Bran: "I shrugged, having not told Circe the truth yet.") (Simone put her face in her hand. “Old people, can you stop being… old people?” Circe was staring at me like I’d grown two more heads.) I think these detract from Circe knowing being cannon. She knows he's at least 500 so why is she so shocked suddenly. He also told her the truth. He just hasn't told her the full story, which might be a better way to phrase it. Which later on she says she wants to him to fill her in on the rest. But I do agree that she in theory knows. It would also be a great opener on the plane, like you said.

Kurt Charlton

I would love to know what is in that ring and the loot Bran got from the Demon General and the Gravity demon. I am curious how big of a timeline change killing the Demon General and stopping the Demon Lord will create?

S

Thanks Bruce - nice to know what you think of patreons when we comment on your work, really appreciated.

cee

I believe Circe knows but not the full story and that is what she keeps hinting at. She wants the full story which would be a nice opener much like he did his Mom. He has Nyx and Circe on the plane so he can probably give her the story. I am curious how many of Circe’s girls will be joining Bran in Vein City with her. She had mentioned it before.

S

I wonder if the servant will have a body shift once they get the new blood?

S

The main thing that bothers me in this book is that the farming sequence in the instance is a bit too long. And the reunion with Persephone and Elle could be extended a bit, it felt a bit rushed

Maurin

No he'll let her kidnap him. And then he'll just corner them for training.

NovaZero

Beautiful ending. This was exactly how I thought it would end. My only notes would be a concise "Persephone is free" update to show he got the anchor free, and maybe a more in-depth conversation with mom. It gelt a little rush, but that might just be me reading it fast. Idk, it was stellar as is, just thoughts I'd share. Super excited for DD203. RAID! Can't wait for DJ Prints!

BigJCSoto

should join Mul Branova Golden bloodlines fit for a deity's servants

Stone Staggers

That's do far away though!

Mister42

Only five days until Dungeon Diving? Yeeeeeees

David

I think Circe likes Bran but is conflicted because she thinks he is young not realizing just how old Bran actually was. Ready for Bran to stop tiptoeing around and just let Circe and the ladies closest to him know his past life and experiences. I think at that point Circe will want a relationship with him and not be conflicted about his age. Glad they are heading back to the city hopefully when they help Vince with the seed vault it doesn't drag out. The vault seems so not part of this story of Bran preparing for the demands. Maybe a side quest hope he took some blood from second demon general for his followers. Can't wait to see Circe's face when she sees his followers at that point he needs to tell his story great work Mr Bruce

Ash Goetz

I enjoyed the whole thing. No complaints or holes i can really think of off the top of my head. I feel like the next book is gunna be super action packed lol

Jeremy Patrick

That’s part of the aftermath I feel was glossed over. Bran being successful isn’t a doubt, but seeing it happen and everything else on the Heros islands would be awesome!

Iron Akela

Well that’s one hell of an ending to a book! I do have a couple of comments though: 1) Elle’s struggles… man that hit hard! It does explain a lot of things, both from the first book and this one, about their relationship and some of the things from the original timeline. I do wonder if it really was the Borsson clan but guess we’ll find out. I would have liked to see Elle’s father get his cumuppence though. 2) I hope we see a massive training montage of Thorin and Elle essentially double teaming Bran - titan training from Thorin and sword training from Elle! Would be hilarious! 3) I agree with the apparent inconsistencies with what Nyx and Circe know of Bran’s past. I think it would be easy to fix though, just having that one scene where Bran tells the elders changed a tad to make things a little clearer for the reader. 4) I love Bran’s fighting style! You really captured the greatsword area denial aspect, and I’m glad to see realistic swordsmanship depicted in a book. Bravo for that! However I am perplexed as to why Bran doesn’t open with Blood Bolts more - get some damage in and blood on the targets ahead of clashing in melee - and why he doesn’t use Blood Hex more. I get that he’s a berserker from the past timeline, so might be struggling to adapt, but he does it sometimes and not others. Would make him more effective as a fighter I think. 5) It would be great if we could get a bit of a read on how many levels Bran, Nyx, Simone, and Elle had gained at the end there. Bran killed a level 400+ demon general, plus the cloaked gravity demon. Not solo, hence the curiosity about the others too. And of course Elle has been in Tartarus for a month or so, hence my curiosity about her level. 6) It would have been nice to see what happened with the clan after everyone returned from the labyrinth. I appreciate that could easily be in book 3, but it feels like that was skipped yet a potentially big deal. 7) This isn’t meant as criticism as much as a personal observation, but I’ve noticed the wrap up ‘scene’ in a lot of Bruce’s books tends to be shorter than perhaps I’d like. I totally get it could well be a style thing, and I get that. However this isn’t the first time I’ve finished a book Bruce has written with a very slightly sour taste in my mouth as it felt the aftermath was glossed/skipped. As I said above, that could be because Bruce’s style is to include that early in the next book, but the wait… its real :o) I’m sad Bran didn’t get to eat any more souls after the leech, but given the situations involved I can totally see why he didn’t try that on the demon general or the cloaked gravity demon. The first Minotaur maybe would have been okay… and some added strength would always be good, but given its lack of level I can see why Bran might not want to try that. A very good book! I’m loving Bran’s adventures, and this was certainly a hella ride!

Iron Akela

Thank you for a wonderful story.

Stephen

Great ending and looking forward to the next one! Enjoyed how Per and Elle relationships resolved at least partially.

Jacob

Loved it

samuel schlatter

Maybe add a scene of Mimic being really emotional as she is freed from being tied to Tartarus' anchor?

Ori Shifrin

Fantastic finish. Wish we had a homecoming chapter with Gloria, but I fully understand that would probably be beginning the next part of the story instead of just being a homecoming. As for the Author’s note, who would shit on this book? I love every bit of this series as I do for all of your series and can’t wait for more. 😁

JediChris85

WOW!! this book was fantastic! Imho this really is one of, if not the best books you’ve ever written and that is truly saying something considering all the incredible books/series you’ve released already. Congrats and well done on another successful completion!! 🥳🥳 I anxiously await our return to more of Bran the Wandering Masochists adventures 🤩👍

Azazel

It took me almost an hour to read. Im so tired. But it was worth it 🫡

Lazyperson321

Thanks for all the chapters! Woo!

Rad

Great ending to the book! I would have loved to have a small scene with Gloria back in vein city like what was given at the end of DJ4, but that is easily left for the start of the next book. Can't want for the next book!

David Hoerner

Very nice, I think there is some inconsistencies between who knows brans past and who doesn't. Circie was there when he told all the leaders he came back in time, so was Nyx. But then Nyx didn't know and now it seems like Circie doesn't know. I believe this may have been mentioned by others but just in case. Other than that, I didn't notice anything. TYFT5C You're an absolute legend and I can't wait for DD 203!

Kurt Charlton

His mom really loved him to make that many sacrifices to keep him safe. Helps explain why this one was so upset at the idea of her Bran being gone. I am glad they are reconciling. Persephone accepting that he is just going to keep calling her Mimi was great. I see 2 things happe ing immediately when they get back. I see Gloria attempting to kidnap him for herself for a couple nights. And I see Thorin attempting to kidnap him for training. It'll be fun to see his mom trying to temper Thorin's excitement for training them

Daniel Glasson

But excellent book!

Mister42

5 days till dungeon diving??? Nooooooooooooo

Mister42

Holy damn that was a good 4 chapters! The Labyrinth was interesting, but with the Minotaurs only having 1 spirit could Bran leave them soul dead as empty husks? Not that it matters. Loved the fight with the General and Demon Lord Shade. The last Demon was a sneaky bitch, but glad Bran handled that. Seeing Bran slowly repair his relationship with his mother is good... And her accepting the 500 year old him is a good start. Her reveal about his childhood was rather interesting. And turning the Servants to his side might be an interesting ploy. Will they join Mul Branova? Having Circe join in Vein City is going to be interesting. They REALLY need that talk. Enjoy the break! And Looking forward to the next DD!

Jamie R

Thank you

shackcat

Glad you didn't do the "parent gives up child for their own protection" cliche. It was fine for the first few, but the only time I want to see It again is when someone calls it out for being stupid and worthless. Glad she apologized as well.

Bob Bryan

Nice!!!! 5 chapies!!!

b bor

It’s here!!

Azazel
