September Patreon Update

I've been sitting on this update for ages as I haven't really known what to say, to be honest.

First things first, schedule update:

November: Heretic Spellblade 7 (planned)

December-February: Mob Sorcery 2

March: Demon's Throne 4

Either Mob Sorcery 2 or Heretic Spellblade 7 chapters should resume in 2 weeks or so.

I'll be writing Mob Sorcery here between books and publishing it to fill in gaps, so I might actually have a consistent publishing schedule for once (fingers crossed). Book 2 will get released whenever there's been enough of a break between books to need a new release, but otherwise it'll be Patreon-first still.

Audio for Spellblade 6 is being recorded in October and Mob Sorcery in November, so those audiobooks might be out around the end of the year if we're lucky.

For those who didn't/can't read the big Mob Sorcery post, the gist is that nothing is changing on Patreon. I haven't made any big decisions otherwise (beyond a stronger desire to write outside harem). I'm disinclined to revisit the topic and will try to find ways to just ignore the frustrating McHarem side of things. I do appreciate the support I've received, however.

Otherwise, it's difficult to really talk about much. I'm doing a lot thinking, including about what the ending of each of my series should look like. But a lot of my thoughts are on the financial side as well and what I'm satisfied with.

Mob Sorcery will get at least 4 books, because that's the minimum necessary to close out the story for Vince satisfactorily. For the time being I will just focus on it being a Patreon serial and ending the current long-term arc.

At this point, I'm going to properly declare Empire Reforged abandoned. Given I'm having difficulty with my bigger series, it's extremely difficult to set aside the time (and the loss of income) to finish it (and it's been nearly 4 years now).

Again, nothing is changing here for a while. Chapters should be more consistent then they've ever been. Thanks to everyone who's supporting me here. You help a lot and it does allow me to just focus on writing for now.

It would depend on the genre I wrote in. If it was litrpg or progfantasy, it would be somewhat similar but with a lot of the character focused stuff stripped down for more plot or progression stuff. If I went nuts and tried something like an actual epic fantasy or a scifi, it would have a fairly different feel (Neural Wraith is fairly close to an ordinary book in terms of feel).

My question would be what would a book outside of harem look like. Would it be same types of stories but without the harem angle? Oh and by the way love your writing and I too would give a non harem book a read as long as it was along the same fantasy line and had a great story.

Paul Bolton

If you haven’t I suggest thinking about doing it

Mustafa Ali

Have you thought about increasing the price of KU books up by a dollar since a couple of authors have begun doing that.

Mustafa Ali

Big fan and will give anything you write a chance inside or outside of harem. Most of harem sucks and the authors I do like, I like because of the writing. Harem just introduces a unique dynamic. Unfortunately as a genre and not just a relationship feature within a story it appears to be headed downhill.

Michael Viggiano

For what's it's worth, I also love Neural Wraith.

deadeyemax

I just wanted to pop in and say I’m a big fan and I’ll read whatever you write ❤️🤘🏽

Hozukimaru.ext

I really don't think I'll go solo romance, unless it's attached to a fantasy or scifi story. Neural Wraith will get another couple of books as I love the series, but I do think it just struggles algorithmically and Amazon punishes my entire account whenever I publish it.

K.D. Robertson

Not really sure. Depends on whether I decide to go crazy and chase passion or stick to something less risky.

K.D. Robertson

It’s a shame about empire reforged. That was the first book of yours and I really enjoyed it. I hope one day you return and just reboot it. I think there is a lot of promise there but, rereading it last, it’s shown its age to be frank. Your writing has evolved so much in the intervening years and series.

Direwolf1618

Will you switch to solo romance or go straight to classic Fantasy/Sci-fi? New pen name? What about Neural Wraith?

J

Honestly I'd follow your works even if they weren't haremlit. I just like your writing style. Just please do tell us if you decide on making a pen name for non harem so I can actually follow it. Kinda sucks when an author I like just peaces out from one genre without actually telling their fans where to continue supporting them. I get some want a "clean break" so to speak, but it still feels like abandonment of the folks that have been enjoying their work.

KiwiHermit

As far as harem goes maybe try for a slow burn and limited number of partners(3). One xxx scene per book ect. Readers still get a taste of it and maybe it doesn't need to be a prominent part of the series?

Brock Kron

Honestly I think you should try branching out if you want, a lot of authors of harem are trying it out. Sure the harem books might get a slower update but whatever helps pay the bills Yknow?

Mustafa

I am also sure you'll find mods in the community relatively easy. It might not be needed at first, but at some point it is useful. And in general a Discord server grows over time anyway. Having a 100 channels at the start is more contraproductive anyway.

GhostPhil

Yeah, I've been consistently lazy about a discord server but I really need to start one. I'll probably just create one with some basic channels and post the invite link here, then work out proper patreon integration once some people join. That way it exists.

K.D. Robertson

Admittedly, the Empire Reforged news is hardly surprising and even as someone who really likes the two books, I'm glad it's officially dead and you can focus on the bigger series. I think all the ideas that are good in that are executed better in HS or DT and am much more excited to see where those go than take up time trying to wrap up ER. Especially as there probably is not a way to satisfyingly conclude that series in a single book. I do hope we maybe see some oni pop up in Mob Sorcery or Demon's Throne as they are a lot of fun. I also wouldn't mind if we got a vampire or dragon eventually. Regarding eventually leaving haremlit, while I will miss the subgenre, I am still interested in more fantasy novels from you in the future. One of the things that sets you apart is the ability to develop ongoing long term romantic relationships in your books that would make them transition out of haremlit into epic fantasy with a strong romance element better than most. A lot of your individual love interests and their relationships with the respective MCs could certainly carry the weight of being the sole FMC of a story (imo: Seraph, Alice, Fei, Fara, Nina, and Alyssa feel like they could all be sole love interests if you wanted to). Whatever happens, I'm along for the ride.

I have to admit, for me as a reader, it is hard to judge how popular or well a book does. Also what is needed for it to be financially a success. I can only see the ratings/reviews on Amazon and it is at around 640 that are mostly on the positive side. Obviously not everybody reviews or rates a book. Obviously having multiple ongoing series creates the problem that readers are afraid of them getting abandoned or a rushed ending. For the Emporer series I think it getting abandoned does not impact anything too much, but I do hope you find a good way to end Heretic Spellblade in a good way. Because I think readers also are a lot more unwilling to read new series by an author when it isn't save that it gets an ending or doesn't get rushed. I don't want to be negative or critisize you about how you handle your writing, releasing, etc. So far I loved every series you started, so me being negativ is me being worried about something I really enjoy. But as I said I can't judge a lot of what goes into being an Indie Author. I just want to mention the option of a Discord server dedicated to your books, projects, etc. If not for anything else, but to build a community around your books. I can at least say with other Authors it felt it works pretty well. Either way I am looking forward to every new book and thanks for trying your best 😊

GhostPhil

Hi new patron here. I feela lot of harem authors have talked about writing more outside of the genre. What genre are you considering branching out into?

Andrew Kinzler

Disappointed about empire, but I get it. Glad we'll see more of Mob Sorcery. Loved it, crushed it isn't doing well for you. Looks like it's time to do a reread of Heretic to prepare for November. Thanks for these updates.

Matt Miller

Can't wait to get more chapters of mob sorcery 2!
