Change of plans
Added 2023-02-10 00:36:25 +0000 UTCAs people have probably guessed from my recent post, my stress levels are a little high. Between that and some IRL stuff, I decided to take a break this week to reevaluate where I'm at. It's helped me a lot, but also forced me to accept that I need to be a little more realistic.
In order to keep things running (somewhat) smoothly I'm changing the next book to Neural Wraith 3. It should be easily possible to get it done before my IRL deadline in March, which wouldn't have been possible for Spellblade 6 without seriously compromising its quality (or not releasing it until April or May).
This will push back all of my books in turn, but I also expect to review my schedule once I'm back in April. There's a saying that two is coincidence and three's a trend, and we're now at that point, so it might be time to make some hard decisions rather than put my head in the sand. But for now, I'll worry about Neural Wraith 3. (To quell any speculation, those hard decisions won't involve cutting Spellblade or Demon's Throne short.)
This will disappoint some (or many) of you, but this is a decision I need to make to be realistic and to get a book out (and avoid worse consequences). Spellblade is a vastly more complicated series of books to write, and trying to get it done on a deadline was a mistake to begin with and ended up being quite self-destructive (particularly with other stuff going on) as the March deadline was in place for some time. The nature of Neural Wraith makes it relatively easy to write quickly so long as I have some good ideas.
There'll be a broader announcement outside of Patreon tomorrow. The first few chapters should go up within the next 24 hours.

Ignoring creative flow in order to force an arbitrary order is the quickest way to stress related blocks I think,

Thank you for sticking to your guns and preserving the quality of your storytelling over quantity of books. I've been realizing that some authors have converted into writing mills...so I've been stepping away from those...but your books are always worth the wait. And I'll be honest, neural wraith is fucking fantastic so I was like "oh nooo...more neural wraith...whatever will I do...". I'm super excited to see the next chapter of spellblade but it's easy to see how it would be exhausting to write. Also can't wait for demons throne, but I definitely will wait. :P

Part of the reason I've greatly preferred being an author to my previous career(s) has been the reduced stress, and I stupidly let some really dumb shit get to me (and paid a bit of a price). I do need to find a balance between the income and stress, though, but in a smarter way. Overall, I think you're right to talk about making our current days fulfilling instead of doing unfulfilling things in hope of good things in the future.

As long as you keep writing and find more enjoyment than stress out of it, isn't that what's most important? Of course the profits are a huge plus, but let's be real. Wednesday Feb 8th 2023 is a day that will never come back, ever. Today, Feb 9th 2023 is the first and last time we will see of it. I know I'm sounding cheesy right now, but what I'm getting at is that the days we have left should be ones that we get more fulfillment out of, more than anything else. Take care of yourself!

2023-02-10 00:49:16 +0000 UTCI thoroughly enjoy your work. I think Demon's Throne might be my favorite series, and would love if you just spent a year pumping out those books. With that being said, I would much rather you put out 4 in December, or next year even, than try to force it, burn yourself out, and fall down a very self destructive rabbit hole. Ergo, write Neural Wraith 3, 4, 8, whatever. Whatever it takes to keep you in a good headspace. While it may be my favorite series, the fact is I've enjoyed ALL your works, and it's your work as a whole that keeps me hear, not one series in particular. So thanks for sharing those stories.
