November Patreon Update

Demon's Throne 2 is out and it's close to the one-year anniversary of the release of Heretic Spellblade. As mentioned in the DT2 release post, a huge thanks to everyone who's read my books, and especially to everyone supporting me here. The Patreon has been a little rocky and I'm making some changes to make it more sustainable going forward. I expect this to be the last time I'll talk about the Patreon itself for the foreseeable future.

If you only care about the news update, you can skip past the dot-points and just read that.

Also, I'll be removing most of the DT2 early chapters not long after this goes up. The first three plus the commentary/covers will remain. The commentary for DT2 is also up for Messenger patrons.

Becoming a full-time author has changed my life a lot, as you'd imagine. That started with the success of Heretic Spellblade. 2020 was a very rocky year for me, as it was for a lot of people. Both series that I'm publishing right now are special to me in different ways. Heretic Spellblade allowed me to become a full-time author, and the source material of Demon's Throne got me back into writing after years of nothing. (And there's Emperor, which is special because it's the first series I published period, and I'll still finish it).

Releasing Demon's Throne 2 has reminded me to focus on my books, however. They're my bread and butter, and what people want to see.

Anyway, the Patreon changes are as follows:

• Early chapters will be posted as batches (e.g. multiple chapters in a single post). You'll receive more consistent posts of chapters, but less often, and they should be in a more final state.
• All chapters and stories that don't relate to current series, or a series that isn't about to be published, will be at the Messenger-tier. These will also be posted in batches, and will be WIP chapters.
• Future commentary posts will be limited to talking about the content of the books themselves, rather than the writing process (e.g. it won't be about editing decisions, but about the final content of the book). The majority of future content will be chapters and stories, however.

I'm making these changes for sustainability reasons. They'll enable me to post more consistently, and people can expect chapters to be closer to final (as a lot of people dislike reading chapters that aren't close to the final version). For the most part, not too much will change in practice other than the shift to batch chapters.

Now for the news part of the update.

My publishing schedule has changed, as you might imagine. Demon's Throne 2 was more difficult to write than expected, and Heretic Spellblade 4 is already outlined, so I'm shifting gears.

I won't do a schedule, so much as tell you what I'm working on, in rough order:

• Heretic Spellblade 4 (December-January release)
• Demon's Throne 3
• Empire Reforged 3 (potentially after HS4)
• A different series (after ER3 is finished)

Right now, I'm publishing every 3 months. My efforts to increase my speed haven't worked out, although HS4 looks genuinely promising (it's already outlined, the outline looks achievable in the word count, and I already have lots of scenes envisioned).

The audio for Heretic Spellblade 3 will be out on Nov 23rd, for those interested. Nothing to announce on Demon's Throne or Empire Reforged.

Later this month, Messengers can expect to see either WIP chapters for Empire Reforged 3, or for the new series I'm working on (which isn't ACR for various reasons). I don't actually know whether anyone is interested in ER3 chapters, so I may just post the new series.
