I have a bit of a surprise today, and that's early cover previews for the entire Demon's Throne series. I'll repost these separately as I come to each book over the next year or so (and high-res versions too), but you can see them all now if you're interested. I've also included a single picture with all the covers combined, including the first book done by Caterina.
I worked with the artist CGlas for these covers - you can find him on basically every artist and social media platform. I got some covers that I'm very happy with and there are some phenomenal details included.
The characters depicted are:
Book 1 - Alsia
Book 2 - Mina
Book 3 - Ariel
Book 4 - Fara
Book 5 - Tennou Morai
Book 6 - Spoilers
I won't pick favorites, because it's kind of difficult. One of the advantages of doing a full cover post like this early is that I can reflect on the covers while they're fresh-ish.
I suspect for many authors, covers are purely a marketing exercise. The softporn covers sell better than the more actiony covers, but I've never liked them. Personally, I like the fact that some of my characters are brought to life by my covers and I try to seek out the artists I like to do that.
In this case, that makes it extremely hard to say which covers I like or dislike the most. I need to separate out my "commercial" view of a cover as a marketing tool and my view of which covers defined those particular characters.
Although you can probably guess some of my feelings from which I'm using on Patreon and FB. On a completely unrelated note, Mina is great.
Anyway, the reason I'm posting this is fairly simple, although I imagine few readers think about it. Authors hire artists as freelancers, and we commission works for exclusive commercial use. Artists reserve the right to post them publicly for promotion, in roughly the same way that you can list your past work on your resume. The Demon's Throne covers were done as a big batch, but will take a long time to be released as books, so I told the artist I don't mind if they go up early. This is all part and parcel of how hiring an artist works, and authors who don't like it can find artists who accept privacy stipulations (usually for an increased fee).
At the same time, part of the Patreon deal is to post covers early. I could ignore this, but it seems weird for patrons here to potentially see the covers first elsewhere. So here they are. Check out the artist if you like, and you'll eventually see these on Amazon.
