Demon's Throne - Very Early Cover Previews

I have a bit of a surprise today, and that's early cover previews for the entire Demon's Throne series. I'll repost these separately as I come to each book over the next year or so (and high-res versions too), but you can see them all now if you're interested. I've also included a single picture with all the covers combined, including the first book done by Caterina.

I worked with the artist CGlas for these covers - you can find him on basically every artist and social media platform. I got some covers that I'm very happy with and there are some phenomenal details included.

The characters depicted are:

Book 1 - Alsia

Book 2 - Mina

Book 3 - Ariel

Book 4 - Fara

Book 5 - Tennou Morai

Book 6 - Spoilers

I won't pick favorites, because it's kind of difficult. One of the advantages of doing a full cover post like this early is that I can reflect on the covers while they're fresh-ish.

I suspect for many authors, covers are purely a marketing exercise. The softporn covers sell better than the more actiony covers, but I've never liked them. Personally, I like the fact that some of my characters are brought to life by my covers and I try to seek out the artists I like to do that.

In this case, that makes it extremely hard to say which covers I like or dislike the most. I need to separate out my "commercial" view of a cover as a marketing tool and my view of which covers defined those particular characters.

Although you can probably guess some of my feelings from which I'm using on Patreon and FB. On a completely unrelated note, Mina is great.

Anyway, the reason I'm posting this is fairly simple, although I imagine few readers think about it. Authors hire artists as freelancers, and we commission works for exclusive commercial use. Artists reserve the right to post them publicly for promotion, in roughly the same way that you can list your past work on your resume. The Demon's Throne covers were done as a big batch, but will take a long time to be released as books, so I told the artist I don't mind if they go up early. This is all part and parcel of how hiring an artist works, and authors who don't like it can find artists who accept privacy stipulations (usually for an increased fee).

At the same time, part of the Patreon deal is to post covers early. I could ignore this, but it seems weird for patrons here to potentially see the covers first elsewhere. So here they are. Check out the artist if you like, and you'll eventually see these on Amazon.

glad i found this and i got a sneaking suspicion about cover 6 based off some flashbacks, book 5 was a pleasant surprise for the cover choice

I am actually still a bit confused about who it is in the first cover (especially because I am not sure, if it should have a tail), same with the second cover. I mean after seeing cover 4 it is pretty clear, but up till then I definitely wasn't too sure. I am extremely loving the details in all those covers. I probably love cover 5 the most, because you look at it and just think "power". But cover 4 is really great with all the fluffy tails in the picture. I have a guess for cover 3, but aren't sure. And I am a sucker for Angels in general, so cover six is amazing!

Yeah, there are lots of little details that make them great. I think the artist does most of the character details by hand, rather than rendering, which resulted in lots of extra polish and little details .

Yeah, CG did a great job, especially as I didn't ask him to match the style. Book 5 is definitely fantastic and there a lots of little touches in it that I love, such as the leotard being slightly seethrough. A few people thought Book 1 was Maria. I think it's the goat horns, and the silvery hair (also the booba).

Some great covers for sure, Morai's looking bad ass in a similar way to how female onis are generally depicted. Totally unrelatedly, giving me so "grown up" Ayame feels. I'm enjoying the internal chuckles at knowing who the spoiler character is because I've been around for long enough since the old before-Amazon times. Super, super curious how she'll be received for sure!

Kartaal

Really awesome with lots of great details to the clothing and armor. Also the shift between foreground and background is great.

Hugo Kater

Some pretty awesome covers! I look forward to the reveal of the spoilers for book 6!

They look great, impressively cohesive considering the artist switch. l always assumed the book 1 cover was Maria, guess I wasn't paying enough attention to the descriptions. Personal favourite is 5, those eyes look awesome.
