Quote for Derelict 3.
Added 2021-03-22 13:54:47 +0000 UTCSo I was doing research on an introduction quote for Derelict 3 , and came across a pretty amazing story from World War 2. The quote I chose is from the captain of the USS Johnston, a Fletcher Class destroyer that served in the pacific.
“This is going to be a fighting ship. I intend to go into harm’s way and anyone who doesn’t want to go along had better get off right now.” Captain E.E. Evans of the USS Johnston.
Captain Evans and his ship more than lived up to the quote. Here is a video on the ship if you're interested.

The food on submarines is as awesome as the legends tell. Twice a month surf and turf (usually king crab legs on my boat; we were out of Hawaii). 4 meals a day (midrats were usually one of my favorites, an ice cream machine, and unlimited coffee. It really was good food. Of course they did this to help with morale.....we were in a steel tube with 120 people for months on end. ;)

2021-03-22 15:38:58 +0000 UTCI love these quotes, from the WW2 era. The navy was a true fighting force then. The stories of the Guadalcanal battles are amazing and hold some of the greatest stories of courage I have ever read. The submarine stories are also amazing (Wahoo comes to mind), but as a former submariner, I am very biased on those. :)
