Murder in Florence 4: Well Executed | Italian History

We dive into the fallout with Pope Sixtus IV, whose outrage over the hanging of Archbishop Salviati led to excommunications and a war that drained Florence’s coffers. From dismantling the Pazzi family through damnatio memoriae to commissioning Botticelli and da Vinci to immortalize their downfall, Lorenzo ensured that no one would forget the consequences of betraying the Medici. But even as Lorenzo avenged his brother and outmaneuvered the Pope, the Medici’s grip on Florence began to weaken. Whispers of rebellion grew louder, and the golden age of the Medici began to tarnish.

Leo X, Giovanni di Lorenzo de’ Medici, R 1513-1521, Lorenzo’s son, was the first Medici pope. Clement VII, R 1523-1534 was the second. Though Clement was the one who installed Alessandro de’ Medici as hereditary Duke of Florence.
