Nazi Occultism 5: Thor's Hammer | European History

we explore the descent of Nazi pseudoscience and occultism into darkness as World War II escalates. What started as fringe archaeological pursuits and racial theories under the Ahnenerbe morphed into sinister projects and cultural erasure. From Himmler’s obsession with mythical weapons like Thor’s Hammer to “research” used to justify extermination policies. We examine how warped ideology intertwined with pseudo-scientific ambitions affected societies, reminding us why it’s vital to recognize the danger of radical thinking and prejudice

As much as I love the image of Republican lawmakers defying King Trump, I'm going to have to say "I'll believe that when I see it."

Martin Verran

Don’t worry. The Republicans in Congress will stand to Trump. Right? Right? Why aren’t you agreeing with me?

David Weintraub

What worries me is a person who espouses extreme political beliefs is now not only POTUS, but also controls all three branches of the Federal Government.

Martin Verran

I am not feeling good about how some aspects of this series might be about to repeat. We don't have world ice theory, but an antivaxxer just got picked to be the health sectetary.

PhlubbaDubba

Yes indeed, the same shmucks that believe in ice moons are the exact same ones to underestimate winter. In all seriousness though, I appreciate that the darker, harsher parts, on both sides, were not shied away from.

Elizabeth Sanford

Loved watching this series! The ending is sobering, but definitely the right note to end on.

Cory

I think it’s more like manifest destiny in the history of the US and they mentioned that in there sitting bull series and when they talk about Native American boarding schools.

Beau Carey

Forgive me for suggesting this, Heinrich, but I don't think Thor exists; you see, Viking mythology, as was the mythologies of other ancient peoples, born of a need to try and make sense of what, to them, was a seemingly senseless world by inventing stories of Gods, Monsters and heroes in an attempt to explain how certain things came into being, as far as I am aware. Also, one more thing, trying to argue that certain lands belong to a certain ethnic race is an idea which I find deeply uncomfortable and disturbingly familiar, especially after the madness that was Brexit here in the UK and in more recent times a certain bald fellow in Russia when speaking of lands that were once part of the Tsarist Empire. Nationalism and Isolationism. Just. Don't. Work. Just take this from me.

Martin Verran

Exterminating people they consider subhuman and saying that land belongs to a certain race? This all sounds terribly familiar. Thanks for another amazing series Extra history and not shying away from the horrors of this period!
