Nazi Occultism 3: Hitler vs Magic | European History

In our last episode, we saw how Nazi ideology mixed mysticism, pseudoscience, and cultural appropriation, striving to appear “modern” while rejecting established science. Despite this, Nazi leadership initially tolerated the occultists, psychics, and mediums who thrived in Weimar Germany’s volatile atmosphere. Figures like Dr. Mathilde Ludendorff crusaded against these “frauds,” claiming they weakened Germany, and were even involved in a conspiracy with foreign forces. But everything changed when Rudolf Hess flew to Britain in 1941. Branded mad and misled by astrologers, his actions spurred “Action Hess,” a nationwide crackdown on occultism.

I'm really looking forward to the Indiana Jones stuff next episode! Are you going to play the Indiana Jones theme at full blast at the beginning of the episode or the regular EH jingle? Is the fellow with the moustache and goatee at 0:56 directly behind Hitler supposed to be any actual member of Hitler's Government or just a generic bean figure? There were a large number of reasons why the Germans lost the First World War but I'm guessing we'll just have to wait until Extra History make a series on the Armistice of 1918 for them to be discussed. Speaking as someone who identifies as a Socialist, and have done for a very long time now, I can safely say that most Socialists here in the UK would probably reject Occultism as a superstition. Then again, Occultism was, in the years after the First World War, very, very fashionable among the British Aristocracy, and there are stories that, just before the discovery of Tutankhamun's Tomb in the 1920s, Lord Carnarvon was warned, during a séance held at his country seat in Highclear Castle, that, quote, "the most dire punishment" would fall on any rash intruder into a Royal Tomb. Lord Carnarvon was bitten by a mosquito during the opening of the Tomb, which he then accidentally cut while shaving. It subsequently became infected and he died in his hotel room in Cairo on 5th April 1923 from blood poisoning, which led to pneumonia. The room he died in has never been rented out to anyone ever again since that day.

He means “Weimar” for the Weimar Republic.

@2:07 (according to captions): "...the miasma of anxiety that pervaded viir germany" What does "viir germany" mean? I can't find a translation of "viir" after a little online searching.
