The Yakuza | Secret Societies 5

The shadowy underworld of Japan's Edo Period sets the stage for the rise of the Yakuza, Japan's most notorious brotherhood of gangsters. From the intertwining paths of peddlers and gamblers, to the rituals and traditions that bind the Yakuza together. Their humble beginnings of wielding political influence and engaging in organized crime, have built the Yakuza's violence, power, and intrigue, creating pivotal moments in Japanese history.

I am not sure if I should be disappointed that there were no Like a Dragon references in this episode, or impressed that you were tempted to include them and chose not to.

What do you mean the Sheep are uninitiated? Sheep are masters of keeping secrets. The language of the Sheep is so secret that even we, their human caregivers, do not know what it is. Also, on a small sidenote, I suspect most Sheep here in Britain favour the LaBAAAAA Party, so they and the Yakuza probably wouldn't get on very well.

I think that'd be a fun series for the Extra Credit group to give us, Mafia, Mob, Yakuza, etc, all of these would have to be in a poll since each would be a series by themselves.

I'm not sure the Yakuza are a great "Secret Society" considering a civil war is what killed the Yakuza, a war that brought even the US Government into it. This was the Yama-Ichi war of 1985 to 1989.

Wait... This was on Nebula before Patreon. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

I'd like to see a similar series on the other old organized crime groups. A lot of them seem to have fascinating neighborhood watch type origin stories.

Really nice transition to Patreon
