Serial Killer Monk - History of Buddhism #2 - Extra History

Buddhism teaches people to meditate, moderate behavior, live by ethical codes, and maintain love for their family and community. But why did Buddha's message appeal to so many people? Even with heavy competition from other religions, his words spread and endured over the centuries, continuing to foster spirituality in an ever-changing and chaotic world.

Question for Lies -- on the subject of early Buddhism's offer of redemption to all and egalitarian message, would you agree with some historians* that early Christianity offered a similarly revolutionary appeal to Greco-Roman society? If so, how would you compare these conceptions of Moral Equality?

Did Christianity lift the idea of monastic orders and orders of nuns from Buddhism, or were these kinds of traditions more common among other religions of the ancient world that would more directly influence the nascent Christian community?

Matt, how do you know you are not enlightened? How can we not be certain that you, sir, are the Buddha of the internet, guiding us to nirvana through your videos? [with Zoey the Cat, presumably, as an agent of the Supreme Chicken disguised as an animated, lovable bean mascot cat.]
