Comments

So summarizing the suggestions in the comments, we have -- (A) two suggestions fighting Russian/Soviet conquest (Poland and the Baltics); (B) a couple of suggestions on the Irish War of Independence (from Britain); (C) the start of the Phillipine Independence (from Spain) movement; (D) Mexico's fight against the French Invasion; and (E) a couple suggestions connecting to the Greek War of Independence (from the Ottomans). (As to Samori Toure or The Franklin Expedition -- not entirely sure their on theme.) Now that suggestions are closed, what do you guys want to see on the poll? (Personally, if these were the suggestions I was working with, I'd seriously consider having five options instead of four this time around.)

Greek War for Independence

Nimrod

Does that work with the theme of "Freedom Fighters"?

Brian Rose

Eric Southard

Samuel Gridley Howe. An american doctor who went to fight in greece during the greek revolution.

Konstantinos Katsafas

Could work as part of a general series on the Irish War of Indeoendence (suggested above)

Brian Rose

Samori Toure!

Benjamin Fouty

The Easter Rising

Clare McDermet

The Mexican struggle against the 1860s French intervention (source of the French Foreign Legion’s legacy of never surrendering or leaving their fallen behind, and the TRUE origin of the Mexican Cinco de Mayo festival)

The Rogue Chief

I submitted La Solidaridad and the formation of Katipuneros. How an editorial from Spain, and a bunch of novels reminded filipinos of their lost identity that sparked a revolution against Spain's colonization. The aftermath of all these events are part of Treaty of Paris. It'll be interesting to enter that part of history from a point of view of a small, upcoming country.

Vincent Cruz

I suggested the Forest Brothers, which were partisans in the Baltic states that fought against the Soviet Union during the 1940s and the 1950s.

GotYaGaming_YT

I decided to go with the Irish War of Independence. I think the conflict's unconventional nature and the politics behind it could be of interest. There's also the obvious tie-in to the series on the Potato Famine.

General Luigi

I suggested "Poland and the Revolution" (1788 to 1830) -- short story, it's the Polish* perspepctive on the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic period.
