End of the Samurai - Black Ships - Extra History - #1

There is a certain kind of irony to opening a series on the Bloodless Revolution with an assassination.

(It was not, in fact, bloodless)

End of the Samurai - Black Ships - Extra History - #1

@ExtraCredits, please include this in Lies. Around 4:57, you include the Chōsokabe clan of Tosa in the graphic for of "the historical enemies of the Tokugawa in the south." The Chōsokabe were overthrown after the Battle of Sekigahara, and the Tokugawa Shogunate installed the Yamauchi clan as the new daimyo of Tosa. The Chōsokabe clan were effectively destroyed after siding with Toyotomi Hideyori during the Siege of Osaka (after the bell incident described in episode 6 of the Sengoku Jidai Extra History series).

I do not have any new alternate history things to share with you this time for the reason stated above, so here are some older ones instead. Oh, and Hideyoshi wasn't a Shogun ~ he couldn't claim the title due to his lowly status; his title was Kampaku. 1585 24th March In the Japanese Empire, the Daimyō Mōri Terumoto is Granted the Title, Shōgun of Japan by the Imperial Court after he Forges a Family Tree showing that he is Descended from Minamoto no Yoritomo. The Mōri Shogunate has begun. 1850 12th December The Japanese Empire Declares itself to be at War against the Kingdom of France with the Hope of Capturing the French Loaisa Islands. 1852 31st March In the Japanese Empire, the Treaty of Peace and Amity is Signed in the City of Yokohama, Kanagawa Province, by Representatives of the Japanese Empire, the Kingdom of France, and the United Kingdoms of The Netherlands. Under the Terms of the Treaty, Japan will Hand the French Loaisa Islands Back to France, the Japanese Cities of Shimoda, Izu Province, and Hakodate, Hokkaido, will be Opened up to European Merchants, who will be Granted Complete Freedom of Movement by the Japanese Government. A French Consulate will be Built in Shimoda, Izu Province, and France will hold a Monopoly on all European Trade with Japan. The Japanese Islands of Okinawa will be Occupied by Luxembourgoise Troops for a Period of 20 Years to make sure Japan keeps to its Half of the Bargain. 1853 In the Shimazu Clan, Daimyō Shimazu Hisamitsu Decides that, although it saddens him to see Japanese Culture Diluted by the Barbarian ways of the Europeans, there are many Advantages to Embracing their Technology. To Conduct Advanced Research, we must First Increase our Capacity for Development by Building up our Civic and Industrial Infrastructure.

I thought it was the Battle of the Horns of Hatin next?
