The first 30 Extra History trading cards all in one place
Added 2018-10-16 20:01:00 +0000 UTCWe previously used Google Drive to host the trading cards, but then realized it would be so much easier to just attach them directly to the posts--we've also lost a few of the links in previous posts due to file reorganization, and so I've now put all the current cards in one place for ease of access.
This post also includes a card backside that was designed at the very beginning in case we want to eventually print these as physical merch, but now you have it as well!

2018-10-19 14:26:55 +0000 UTCAnother way of designing such a game might be to follow the Apples to Apples model, with modifications, possibly allowing multiple winners per round. A round could be where people write down as many things as they know about each series' subject, and players could vote based on: Do they believe all the list are actual, and not made up; How many facts, and how important; Bonuses for Walpole connections and pertinent facts not in the original videos.

2018-10-17 18:24:35 +0000 UTCI'm way too poor to do anything but find a local fellow fan, with a good color printer, to run off cards on card stock, or some of my Bristol board. But you might be able to raise several levels of Patreon support with just one physical product. You can make sets available individually, and in groups. You can add signatures. You might even experiment with treats and soy sauce, to get Zoe's paw print, for a really high Patreon level. And you can even stack Patron levels higher, by having one set of levels where the signatures (and maybe paw print) are *only* printed on the cards, and another even higher set of levels, where you actually sign the backs of the cards, manually. What do you think? You should probably run lots of polls.

2018-10-17 18:21:03 +0000 UTCI really like the idea of a game, especially as it will give you an opportunity to team with Fun to 11 (creators of the Partisans again! Although honestly, I'd like a game based on the core extra credits episodes, where the game can be player-vs-player or co-op. the goal of the game would be to create and fund a studio and then go through the major stages of game development. Cards would be based on past extra credits episodes (allowing you to re-use the art assets you already have), along with "special" cards from all other series. Extra sci-fi and Extra history could provide cards that can be used for categories such as motivation, influence, or plot. Design Club and James recommends could present challenges for different staff. Other series can then be mixed in, allowing you to have either a base game with an ever-expanding card deck (similar to Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh), or to have future expansions to your game. in cooperative play, each player would be responsible for just one part of the design, (Art, Programming, ui etc). and opposed by "studio cards" that include departments such as "game critic" "marketing" "management" etc. for competitive play one player has to get all departments to 100% while not only dealing with "studio cards" but competition and "dirty tricks" from other players. this idea would require multiple card decks. but handled well, could be an intriguing mix of the gameplay style described in the partisans, while also drawing upon trading card games, and the Nuclear War series of games from Flying Buffalo inc.

2018-10-17 06:37:13 +0000 UTCOne of our Patreon milestone goals waaaay back when was to produce a cool piece of art for each series. Many times this art was also limited-edition physical merch, you can see some examples of this if you browse the Art tag long enough on this Patreon. However, making a new piece of merch on top of making episodes under the previous pipeline was very exhausting for the artists, so Lil and Nick pitched "trading cards" as a less time-consuming alternative that still provides cool series art. (If anyone is curious, the new art pipeline is now 1-2 weeks per episode instead of 1 week, and oddly enough it is partly why we have been posting early-access episodes earlier than usual.)

2018-10-17 06:15:36 +0000 UTCWhen Soraya left in February, I was placed in charge of both the Patreon and the merch plans. From what I could find there had been no specific documentation (internally) to produce this as a set of cards, other than confirmation from DFTBA that it was doable. (One of many unresolved concerns was that we wanted to make trading cards for all PREVIOUS series before Khosrau, which would take quite a bit of additional time that we haven't scheduled into our production pipeline yet--in general, making merch has historically been time-consuming for the artists to handle in addition to making episodes, and after the last six months of quality-of-life balancing we've tried to do for the whole company, we've finally started to get to a place where episode art and merch art aren't competing as much for an artist's limited time). After consulting with Matt and Geoff, the three of us decided that while we do want to make these cards an official merch product eventually, we couldn't agree on the best way to do it in order to make it a high-quality and interesting product (e.g. should we design a game around it? what if it was a standard playing card deck? what about previous series that don't have cards?). To be clear, we would still absolutely like to print them as physical merch through DFTBA, but the initial promise was based on an impractical art pipeline (at the time). Personally, I think it's totally doable with the new art staff changes to get these out in 2019 as a polished high-quality set that we are all proud of. --Belinda

In the post "Goodbye Series Art, Hello Trading Cards!" from Feb 1, 2, it states "Lil and Nick came up with the excellent idea of trading cards: every series, we will produce a set of 2-5 trading cards showcasing the characters, places, and events from the most recent series. The digital versions of these cards will be shared with you at the end of the series; the physical versions will be printed at the end of the year 2018 and made available for purchase!" There seems to be either a change of plan, or an outright contradiction here. Could you please clarify this for us?
