The Aesir-Vanir War - Extra Mythology

Sponsored by God of War! http://bit.ly/2FBqVPH

One day, a mysterious visitor appeared among the Aesir, one of two races of Nordic gods. An epic and long war began, and yet despite the bloodshed, their war eventually gave poetry to the world.

(Patreon note: we will still be doing a 4-part series later this year per our $16k milestone that y'all helped us hit. More on that mentioned at the very beginning of the video!)

Ouch! Such hostility toward wisdom! I guess that's still with us. Darn. :/

Great

Thank you for the news

That Odin should have both his eyes at this point in the story. But I absolutely understand why you'd draw him with a missing eye since nobody would recognize him otherwise.

Christina Maria Jessen

The bean I think is Odin is missing his right eye, which one are you looking at?

Dani McKenzie

Is... Is the bald, stubbly guy Thor?! The guy whose main visual attribute is his red mane and big, red beard, which is referenced in several myths? Who is big, loud, boisterous and cheerful, not grim and serious. I mean, that guy has a hammer and drawing a hammer in something Norse without meaning Thor would be weird. The only other option I can think of is Tyr, the god of war and honor and he fits even less what with having two hands and not displaying the general sense of restraint, self-control and general civil attitude that Tyr's marked by. Also, Odin has to have presented a challenge. Because everybody knows he's one-eyed and unless his animals are there or you make Gungnir super-fancy, nobody will recognize him if he has two eyes. On the other hand, he explicitly has two eyes at this point since Mimir still has his head for most of the video.

Christina Maria Jessen

That sounds incredibly epic

Extra History

Tieing this to the Irish tuatha danann stories would be cool.

If/when Extra Mythology gets more regular screentime, we'll ask the Kiners to make unique music for it, but for now Drums of War was an unexpectedly fitting piece for these videos!

Extra History

I love Norse mythos. So many weird creations from odd combinations of things. Like the noise a cat makes walking was used to create the chains holding Fenrir.

Sean Sarff

I love that you guys brought "Drums of War" for this! Here's hoping the series takes off.
