here's where i stand on the whole "hikaru is a monster" thing: i don't think that something being not human or being a monster (as long as we use the word as a nomenclature and not as an insult) means it's any less valid or less deserving of existence. to put it another way, him being an eldritch horror doesn't mean he's not also a person. it only means that we can't expect him to know or be able to do all the same things that a human does. and that can be an analogy for many things even in the human category: queer people, neurodivergent people, mentally ill people, people with a different cultural background, etc. i don't know about the other groups, but many of us queers reclaim the term "monster" and wear it as a way to say "yeah, i'm different from you people and that's /fine/". basically, saying "he's just like us" is not only setting yourself up for disappointment, but also a subtle way of putting him into another box, when the whole story is about not fitting into what's considered normal. i know that's not what you meant to do though, and i get what you were saying about acts of malice or destructive behavior not making us less human, and about terminology being used as a way to alienate those who we don't wanna sympathize with
