Mea Culpa: To Patrons Who Saw the Poll after It Closed
Added 2017-01-28 10:49:10 +0000 UTCEarlier this week, we ran the $5 pledge reward allowing patrons at that level to vote on which topic of Extra History we would cover in the future. After the vote finished, I switched the setting on the post so that everyone could view it. My intent was to make the results of the poll (and comments on it) public so that everyone could see and weigh in, but the RESULT was that it sent a message to all patrons informing them that the poll existed... only, that poll had already closed.
So to the many of you who encountered this issue, I wanted to take a moment to explain what happened, and also to apologize. I realize that no one wants to get spammed, ESPECIALLY with a reward they can't even have! It wasn't my intention to frustrate anyone but I know that many of you were indeed frustrated (understandably so) when you got an email saying "Hey! Come vote!" immediately followed by an email saying "Vote's closed! Too late!"
Now that I know this is how Patreon handles messaging in these cases, I will be more careful to make sure you aren't spammed with unavailable pledge rewards in the future, though I will continue to share results in a separate (hopefully less confusing) post, so that everyone still gets to see what's coming up for Extra History.
And by way of a small apology, I've posted a preview image from the second episode of Catherine the Great to go along with this post. Catherine had to do some apologizing of her own to get to this point... but then, we'll find out more about that next week!
