Fiat means "let it be" in Latin. Sort of.

Matt Lakits doesn't have the mental energy to update their Patreon name anymore, but still listens to every episode avidly!

When talking about Newton, at around the 20 minute mark, did James mean to say that England was hemorrhaging silver before Newton's changes, or was what he said about them hemorrhaging gold correct? Or am I just not understanding properly due to being half-asleep myself?

Can we get a bibliography for these series?

Zachary Joyner

So, do we call it a Fiat system because like a Fiat, when it works it is amazing, but when it doesn't it is usually for a crazy, and stupid reason? Like fun fact, if the charging light in my dash cluster goes out it breaks the charging circuit.

Laura Galm

This is a bizarre thought but I feel like it would be REALLY appropriate if James' picture in the thumbnail for this one had some kind of dollar-bill-looking filter over it.

Tiberia Prima

Just posted the link! I usually wait until the episode goes live-for-everyone before I post the vote poll, but of course, we need James to say "the poll is live now!" when we record it.

The petro-dollar is the major reason the US keeps propping up the House of Saud

How do we vote for the next topic?

Good episode. I always learn a lot from these lies episodes. (Just the fact the everyone needs American money in order to even trade was just fascinating.) Also, I look forward to hearing about Simon Bolivar from you guys. Michael Duncan, as you probably know, has been covering the South American revolution in his podcast. So, it'll be good to hear a different take on the history.
