Go First Crusade! While it will be less exciting to watch a series on something I already know intimately I'm excited to see what you guys do with it. Worth it for the art alone, really. Also, if you want any help I have most of a Medieval History Ph.D. (just 5 more months to go!), a deep fascination with the Crusades in particular, and a desire to see one of Medieval Europe's most controversial topics explained well for the general public. If you've got this, though, then I should probably be writing anyway! :)

2015-04-23 18:38:05 +0000 UTCI've got a list of ideas I'm going to be submitting, and while I'm less interested in American history than I suspect people from the US are, there are a couple of American history topics on my list of ideas to suggest, and reorder as appropriate, at some point. Bass Reeves seems to be a very underlooked figure, for example, though is fourth on my list of ideas so there are three that would need to be covered or similar to them covered before I suggest him. Is there a direct link to current results or to get them do I just click through, seeing as it remembers my answers I presume it remembers me and won't double-vote if I click through again, but... Not sure so don't want to risk it.

2015-04-22 20:40:08 +0000 UTCPeople are starting to care about it in the UK, at least, on account that people are starting to realize just how bad the current system is thanks to the UK party system is becoming increasingly messy - Depending on how you count there's anywhere from 3 to 7 major parties in the UK now, and back when it was definitely 3 we managed to return a hung parliament that required a coalition in a system heavially biased to producing majorities even if that isn't what the voters actually want) (My preference is MAM with single member constituancies but, really, almost anything is better than the current system here)

2015-04-22 20:34:50 +0000 UTCMy school district may have been particularly bad about it, but we had American history as a required course in 2 years of high school, both of which covered the same set of subjects with the same amount of depth. Then there were our world history courses, which covered everything before the U.S. for a couple weeks, then went into American history mode for the rest of the semester to cover how the rest of the world interacted with the U.S. during major events in U.S. history (so it was basically another American history course, the only difference being it acknowledged there were other countries in existence). I'm pretty sure that 95% of my historical knowledge comes from studying I did on my own outside of my classes. While I would love to see the EH take on U.S. history, I've had too much of it to have more than a passing interest; I'ld be more interested in just about any other subject. I have a feeling that a lot of other people in the U.S. have had similar experiences.

2015-04-21 05:14:12 +0000 UTCI seems like the First Crusade is pulling ahead. It'll be refreshing to see an unbiased take on the Crusades.

2015-04-20 23:36:37 +0000 UTCI actually know a little bit about Benedict Arnold already, so I would be interested in seeing what the EH crew does with his story.

2015-04-20 22:08:40 +0000 UTCIt's an interesting and well-studied fields. I wish people cared as much about how we get to vote as cared about who gets to vote.

2015-04-20 20:59:38 +0000 UTCI'd just love a chance for us to show even the Americans who have "heard it all before" that we can do a great job with their history! And I think Benedict Arnold is a great lens through which to view the American Revolution with a new perspective, but, we'll see. :)

2015-04-20 20:49:42 +0000 UTCI almost feel bad for the American history - I get that everyone in the USA has probably heard about the American revolution over and over again, and as such votes for other things, but could be interesting for all of us on other parts of the planet... Ah well, the votes not over yet! We'll see what happens.

2015-04-20 20:41:49 +0000 UTCIRV is a bad idea: http://www.reddit.com/r/EVEX/comments/31qftc/how_history_wouldve_changed_if_presidential/cq4gph7

2015-04-20 20:31:37 +0000 UTCIt's mostly to do with simplicity. I just started running approval votes last month, at the suggestion of another patron, and I didn't want to complicate things for myself or the voters by introducing rankings on top of multiple-selection votes. For right now, approval voting has the benefit of letting the current results be easily read (since I know lots of people like to check and see how the vote is going). While I can administer an IRV vote from the back end, the functionality isn't built into the platform and I don't want to leave people in a gray area of not knowing which topic is currently ahead when they go to check.

2015-04-20 20:27:08 +0000 UTCSímon Bolívar would be a great topic and we do take suggestions from patrons at the $15 donor level. We then hold a raffle and one viewer suggestion gets added to the poll each month (this month, it's Cincinnatus). We just wrapped that up for the month of April so I would hold off until May if you're interested, but that is an option for the future!

2015-04-20 20:16:11 +0000 UTCI would like to add a topic for future pools. As a latin-american person, I would like people of the rest of the world to know more about Símon Bolívar, the man responsible for the movement of independence of half dozen countries of south america.

2015-04-20 19:55:57 +0000 UTCWhile I appreciate the use of approval voting instead of a simple single vote "first past the post" system, it'd be nice to be able to more completely indicate my preferences using preferential voting (aka. "instant run-off", "single transferable vote") (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting). Is this possible with the survey system, or are there other considerations or arguments that make the current system preferable?
