Most of the crew of Super are the same exact people who worked on Z. The difference was that Toei, at the time, was overworking its Japanese animators, so the in-between frames had to be done offshore by Toei’s Filipino branch to balance the load. Also, a lot of the veteran Z alumni spent so long working on One Piece that they forgot how to draw DB by the time it came back in 2015. It’s especially why the characters looked weird in the Champa arc, because I remember one veteran drawing a lot that arc

That last scene of Goku and Frieza powering up together to take out Jiren is a total 180 from the old days of DBZ Namek. Who would have thought they would come this far together. Also, I believe this was Chris Ayres' final performance as Frieza before his death from pulmonary disease. RIP. He was the best voice for Lord Frieza.

That whole trust vs isolation just hit, and seeing Jiren slowly shifting was incredible too. Really appreciate you riding through it with us, knowing our reactions added to that experience is honestly the best part.

2025-07-25 23:11:00 +0000 UTCWhen you think about it, Goku Black/Zamasu was the only real original villain in Super since Beerus is a neutral force of divine nature and people like Hit and Jiren were more competitive antagonists/rivals than villains. Although, in the manga after the anime we actually do start getting more legitimate villains again.

2025-07-25 22:03:28 +0000 UTCIt's been cool to watch you react to all of this. :D You should've watched the Credits Outro before Frieza as it shows things happening after the tournament of Power and that A17 got his cruise via Bulma ;) 25:45 - idk what you've read but they didn't fire anyone lol, firing someone is not common in Japan, you get demoted. Firing isn't part of their culture - their culture is to shame you into leaving your position. DBS was rushed because this team was working on multiple different projects at once and they were given a ridiculous deadline. They even went back later and polished up some of the first few episodes, they looked worse than they did when you've watched them here, when they aired in Japan. The art didn't drastically improve until very late in the Goku Black arc and even then it's a few key animators. The "Z" style you and everyone else loves so much in some episodes in the tournament is animated and drawn by one guy; Yuya Takahashi There's 3 arcs of super currently not animated like you said, but the Manga is very different to the Anime anyway, the entire Goku Black Arc and Tournament of Power arcs in the manga are entirely different and they're an interesting read if you want to see what they could've done if they had worked from the Manga rather than whatever scrap notes Toriyama gave them that week... The Manga is also on a gigantic plot cliff-hanger right now and no one knows what's actually going to happen lol. Super's production was an absolute mess from start to finish because they had no source material to work with, Toriyama was literally just giving them outlines and then was just approving things - they were making crap up as they went so long as it stayed within his guidelines. After super this team went on to work on Digimon and One Piece... then got brought back to Daiyma. Daiyma happening stopped Super coming back because Daiyma is what Toriyama wanted... even though it's been more or less confirmed Daiyma is not canon and is a fun "what if" project now. Dragonball was Toriyama's first and foremost, so him wanting Daiyma basically meant Toei said "ok forget super for now" at the time. Toyotarou (the guy who draws and writes the manga for Super) is now working with Toriyama's editor (the guy who's responsible for Cell even existing btw, he wasn't a fan of the Androids being the main villain and forced Toriyama to make a "bigger villain") who worked with Toriyama all the way from original Dragonball until end of Z, so we will likely get more Dragon Ball Super in the future. Toyotarou has also said he wants to develop and focus on Goten and Trunks more in a recent interview. We don't know when Dragonball will come back, only that it WILL come back. :D Looking forward to watching the movies. In the end Goku helped change Jiren just like he has since the beginning. Your reactions to this arc is one of my personal favorite ever for a reactor, I looked forward to watching every episode such a fun time!!!
