The Old Kai giving his life for Goku and King Yemma's decision to not only let Vegeta keep his body, but to also bring him back to Earth (bending the rules for dead since Vegeta was supposed to be sent to Hell) is a testament to how dire the situation was. Buu's very presence threatens everything in existence so the gods themselves are directly intervening in mortal affairs and are pulling out all the stops to eliminate him.

2024-10-31 03:28:58 +0000 UTCHonestly Goku coming back to save Gohan was very anticlimatic. It sort of ruined that wholesome goodbye they had. Goku was ready to hand the reins over to Gohan, but all that was put to moot if he was going to come back anyway.

2024-10-31 02:51:13 +0000 UTCIf you were wondering whether the movie Fusion Reborn is canon, it is, sort of. It takes place in an alternate timeline where Gotenks or Gohan defeated Buu, hence no reason for Goku to come back to life.

2024-10-31 02:46:38 +0000 UTCGoku and Vegeta were not supposed to come back. Toriyama originally intended for Gohan to defeat Buu, but got pressured into bringing Goku back, hence he had to change the story into what it is now.
